NBN News (2015-Feb 2025)

More likely when they relocate to new studios in July 2021.

It’s not the first time this has occurred either… I’m a bit surprised that there hasn’t been a directive from network headquarters that NBN journos have to use a Nine branded mic flag on the network bulletins.

it almost makes me think that the NBN brand cannot die.

At least he’s got the right microphone, so that’s a start… something they’ve rarely done for the network cameras.

There’s surely got to be some internal tension between NBN & TCN (particularly in the news departments) that us mere mortals aren’t aware of.

Otherwise, why would Nine News Sydney send reporters up into the NBN viewing area to cover stories where a package from the regionally-based reporters would be sufficient? Maybe it hasn’t happened so much this year, but certainly over the last few until/including 2019 there’s been far too much “Sydney-fication” of Northern NSW news coverage on TCN - sometimes to disastrous effects as we’ve seen when fairly basic geographical errors (such as “Raymond Terrace on the Central Coast” and “Tuncurry on the South Coast” - I especially wish that last one wasn’t real) have been made during Nine News bulletins!

Comfy shirts. Can stay cool in them.

Due to technical issues at Mosbri, NBN are switching to TCN news.

Jane Goldsmith just announced major technical problems, said goodnight and they have switched to the Sydney bulletin.

It’s possible the Sport and Weather opt outs aren’t working.

We are still getting local NBN ads and local billboards so at least that’s working.

Interesting! I didn’t see it tonight… roughly when this occur? Early in the bulletin?

It happened just before sport. Mitchell Hughes threw to the ad break after Jane handed over to him, and then the ad break played out before coming back to Jane with that message.

Gold Coast got the 6pm Brisbane bulletin in full:

Wonder how of the issues were related to the ageing infrastructure they have at Mosbri Crescent?

Given the move to Honeysuckle is still another six months away, hopefully they don’t have many more issues like this in that time.

Despite referring to Nine News as “the network” (this is incredibly petty and only adds fuel to the fire on rumours of possible internal friction between TCN & NBN), it’s good to see that they didn’t just decide to run a black screen like they did on a Saturday night about a decade ago! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Speaking of the move, one wonders how much of the “new” infrastructure will actually just be repurposed stuff from Willoughby that’s slightly newer than the aging set and equipment still in use at Mosbri Crescent?

Sure I expect NBN News to finally be in native HD at Honeysuckle, but if Nine aren’t willing to spend much on new sets for North Sydney (and TCN is the network flagship station), there’s surely little chance of the Newcastle station receiving many completely new things!

Agree that NBNs refusal to refer to the feeder network brand is somewhat dumb, given that they are known as Nine for the other 23 hours of the day!

Agree that Honeysuckle will probably get a lot of Willoughby equipment.

Also agree that it will probably be the same set.

Will be interesting to see what they use for a ‘temporary’ set (like we recently saw at TCN) whilst in transition.

Assuming the current set won’t be moved over, they will probably just operate until the last day as normal then start at the new facility the next day.

Haha only if you really knew what was happening.

It really made me appreciate how much better Jane Goldsmith is on NBN vs Georgie Gardener is.
