As the countdown to MSNBC’s rebrand as MS NOW looms, the network profited from last night’s election coverage to launch the first promos in the run up to the big day as part of the new brand. The 60-second spots feature the network’s personalities intertwined with both contemporary and archival “vignettes” of everyday Americans and Americana life, with one spot featuring Rachel Maddow reading the preamble to the U.S. Constitution, whilst the second uses archival recordings of Maya Angelou, reading her 1996 poem “The Human Family”.
Videos won’t embed here, so here’s the full press release (with the videos, sourced from NCS):
As part of the new concept of MS NOW, the network plans to continue leveraging an emphasis on its progressive-leaning agenda and commentary, but the network is adding what it calls “the American experience” to its DNA, by reflecting on the “love of country and sense of community” of its main target.
As previously announced, the network would separate from NBC’s news facilities at 30 Rock, with Versant looking for new facilities in New York to house the company and its operations. Eventually, it has found a home in Midtown Manhattan, having set a lease for 164,545 square feet at the former New York Times Building in Times Square, occupying floors 8 to 10 which will serve as its temporary HQ. There’s where MS NOW’s initial studios will be located, where a full newsroom (including a flashcam position inside the office) and production facilities (including two control rooms and a dedicated podcast studio) will be installed.
For the operation, MS NOW has invested in unique technology facilities for the new network, including three studios inside the NYC facility. The largest studio includes a large LED array, which is 240hz capable and has the highest pixel pitch (1.6mm). Additionally, the network has been equipped with a one of a kind XR studio using volume panels.
For its standalone Washington bureau, MS NOW will still share some facilities with NBC News at the one of the buildings (400 North Capitol St in Northwest Washington D.C.) of the Hall of States office complex. Comcast has reportedly rebuilt the 8th floor of the NBC News DC bureau to house separate space for the new MS NOW bureau, in which also CNBC will be based.
It looks like everything will be new come Nov. 15…
