Narrowcast and AM Narrowband Radio

Bumping an old comment, but does anyone know what (if any) service/s Safi is running on his licences?

He has a few LPONs in Sydney and Melbourne plus a 1611 AM NAS licence

they have dots on the map for Echuca and Deniliquin, both of which no longer relay KIX Country (Deni now rebroadcasts 2QN on its former FM frequency).

Sure puts in to perspective ACMA’s enforcement, when you can just do something like that on a narrowcast frequency and the ACMA will just rubber stamp making it okay. Last I heard about it the ACMA were letting them use Covid as an excuse for that?

I’m kinda surprised they aren’t exclusively spending their time on over power LPONs, given their disinterest in enforcing rules on the big stations.

At least Ace ditched the 92.5 Moama HPON for a full-blown Edge repeater on 103.9. Surely they’re not still getting away with this in Deni?

Could be.

Spirit Radio (6BAY) was in Morawa WA on 1512 in January 2014, but not listed in the ACMA’s TV and radio stations book nor in the radiocomms DB, though they were listed later.

Interesting, some years earlier, 1512 was listed in the handbook as being in Geraldton with a power of 0 KW.

Given that it’s only MediaSpy nerds that give a hoot, particularly since Deniliquin is a solus market, I’d say they are. And the double standard in media regulation between commercial broadcasters and other broadcasters should be obvious to anyone here.

Totally agree, unfortunately you wont see any audits of commercial radio licences anytime soon. ACMA are either scared of Commercial Radio or ACMA’s board members (some who are are ex commercial radio and commercial tv) have a bias toward protecting the big boys.

We know, implied earlier and also monitored by all major licensees.

Currently at Broadbeach and discovered this narrowcaster. They are playing mostly 70s and 80s.

Some interesting info when you go to the website, & not just about 4GG, but the network the station is part of.

HOT FM - I’m resisting moving this conversation over to the Pirate thread as I think they would have applied for the free 87.8 FM licence in Charleville during the latest auction (surely they have done this!)

If they do consider becoming a licensed narrowcaster, they are already breaking the rules with 2 music genres, Comedy, Breakfast show with guests, sport, competitions like a “secret sound”.

But either way, here is a recording of an ad break from the currently unlicenced narrowcaster “Hot FM Charleville” (with unlicensed transmitters in Augathella and Morven)

There should be some discussion of this further back in this topic or the RDS one around end of December when I raised this.

Here’s the 4GG transmitter site in Mermaid Beach. Just a pole.

What part of Mermaid? I’ll see if I can find it myself!

It’s near the beach. Can be easily looked up on the ACMA radcom database.

The tail end

Looks like an old mast for VHF Brisbane antenna.

Now, everything old is new again, and – thanks to the team at Geelong Broadcasters – 3GL is set to be officially relaunched on April 1st.

“We are also live on a handful of narrowcast FM frequencies from Wyndham to Colac, Queenscliff and Apollo Bay.”

Well that launch date isn’t promising…

Could have just pushed it to April 2 to avoid April Fools references
