That’s that new Tasmanian town, Queensea. HA!
But according to their frequency list on another page, Hamilton is on 87.6.
Most 3ABN Australia Radio affiliates are off the air due to the Intelsat-19 transponder shut down.
RAW FM is off air in Newcastle too… But my friend can hear it on the Northern Beaches (they appear to have an STL there though).
I thought they had or were in the process of selling off most of their licenses. Glad to hear they at least still have Newcastle and Northern Beaches on-air.
someone told me it will stay on air with continual coverage between Newcastle and the Central Coast, also at Mosman, St Ives and Northern Beaches. Not sure how the Satellite will affect this.
I was down that way over the weekend and noticed all of Newy 878 frequencies through out the Central Coast were dead air just a pilot, not sure if related or technical issues, I know in the past they were running audio that sound like 24kbps MP3 stream to air.
Planet Radio that used to be receivable at my location on 88.0 seems to have gone MIA. So can now receive presumably Tower FM from Redcliffe.
Telstra pulled their weight and Telstra Broadcast Services transponder was switched back on…. But it may be at lower power because RAW at the central coast is dropping
Can anyone confirm if 87.8 is currently on air in Charleville?
RADCOM is only showing two licenced services
Also given the LPON planning model, any new 87.8 services would have to be located at least 5km from the existing 87.6 and 88 services in town.
On top of Charlevile, they claim to be transmitting on 87.8 FM in Augathella and Morven in this Facebook post. All 3 towns are about an hour away from each other in a triangle (map below). This is probably why someone complained to the ACMA.
Maybe this operator thinks we have the NZ LPFM system, whereby you can just fire up. However, here in Australia, you gotta get licenced.
How did you know there was a complaint made to ACMA?
The shame is, being remote it looks like there are be available frequencies in and around Augathella and Morven for LPONs (maybe even HPONs). The noise floor is nice and low, and the terrain is flat, which makes for good coverage on low power.
According to Aunic whois, The domain name hottfm.com.au looks likes it owned by a “Jason Stead”, can anyone shed any light on who this guy is and why it appears that he is broadcasting without a licence.
But it gets worse… not only are they not licenced (as per ACMA Radcom searches), according to IP Australia, the trademark for “Hot FM” is owned by Southern Cross Austereo…

So is this operator infringing SCA’s trademark too?
I’m curious as to why this particular station way out at Charlie Ville is grabbing our attention? If you want to look at flagrant LPON related breaches, start with the over powered Sydney stations!
Well, Sydney has lots of people so easier to get away with.
i’m not sure what you mean by “Way out”, this forum covers the whole Australian land mass, it doesn’t just cover the tiny geographic area of Sydney.
He is already known, in the past he was involved in “Hawkesbury Gold” and there was a disagreement and he was playing explicit content on air (see video link here).
Yes but these services are licenced, whereas this service in Charleville appears to be unlicenced (unless the ACMA radcom database is missing a whole bunch of new licences), therefore should this discussion be transferred in the “Pirate Radio” forum?
It may simply be a case of the ACMA database being out of date as you say. I’m in no way siding with the operator and have no links to them whatsoever, but you have to be careful with such speculation.
It’s a fact, meanwhile, that certain LPONs are way over spec.
