I doubt anyone other than me has been actively monitoring the test transmissions of 107.9FM, but for what it’s worth…
*Going by what I heard last night, I’m reasonably confident that all music & ad breaks are pre-produced.
*Earlier this afternoon, what sounded like tests of the microphone signal levels (“1, 2, 3, 4”) was going to air over music.
*The on and off nature continued this afternoon, probably with on/off periods being longer than they were last night and early this morning. While I may be tempting fate with this observation, Show Radio seems to have sounded relatively seamless since around 3pm.
*Clean news theme & Station ID into talk bed around top of the hour. Again, this sort of thing has been happening during Show Radio Test Transmissions for years (of course as a radio branding enthusiast, I’m not complaining!) but still worth pointing out.
*Show Radio 107.9 seems to have a VERY limited selection of ads. One each for Australian Eggs + The Edge 96.1, two for Norco Milk…and that’s it! As much as it’s strange to want more commercials on a radio station, injecting a few more into the system (even if they’re just spots for event sponsors) would make things infinitely more listenable.
Have tuned in occasionally as time & interest allows.
Heard an interesting interview with Murray Wilton, CEO of the Sydney Show this morning. Adverts noted for Norco.
On the technical side of the transmission; whilst the transmission has a stereo pilot carrier, the observed audio & spectrum only appears to be in mono.
Also previously mentioned by @Weeman88 re 104.9 FM Perth station changes.
Here’s the FB link to the new station.
Murray Wilton of course is no stranger to radio, having been a presenter on 2GB and 2UE in the past.
A search online suggests that Wilton has been involved with the RAS in some form since 2003 but I think he became GM of the Sydney Royal Easter Show around 2015-16, when Michael Collins left.
Ahh, so that would explain why I haven’t been able to get Show Radio in stereo on my USB tuner this year no matter how good the signal is!
Still at least it seems to have been on-air as scheduled for the duration…
Voice of Islam is now running on 107.9FM - same programming as the permanent narrowcast service on 87.6FM. As far as I can tell, it’s coming from the same transmitter that AFTRS used for Show Radio during the first 12 days of April.
There’s also a temporary broadcast on 91.6FM in Sydney, but with different content.
I just looked up the ACMA radio database.
Is listed as QK Radio with 200W from TX @ Governor Phillip Tower, 1 Farrer Place, SYDNEY. How do they ID on air?
Re “albun” there is another islamic TCBL that makes appearances during Ramadan called: Albayan Radio
It’s via Hurstville.
Google tells me: In 2021 , Ramadan will start on Monday, April 12 or Tuesday, April 13 and last through Tuesday, May 11
The latest narrowcaster on 91.6FM in Sydney is from a Islamic broadcaster identifying as:
‘Islamic Path Radio Australia’ on air until May 16th.
They’re also on 151.825MHz VHF.
Recent past history of Chinese & Arabic/Islamic short term
broadcasts on this frequency all categorised under the narrowcast licence.
Perhaps further back in history the licence category on this frequency
in Sydney might have been TCBL, but don’t quote me on that.
Regardless if a narrowcasting license has been bought or not, anyone know the procedure of a license being transferred to a new owner / individual? Does the old owner simply inform ACMA of change of ownership and that’s it?
Not quite, I think the new owner would also have to fill out a few forms giving ACMA the required info (contacts, etc).
Maybe contact the Narrowcasting Association, they’d be able to answer.
Might even find a licence to purchase if you’re that interested, there’s a few for sale. https://www.anra.org.au
The 1386 AM licence available for sale expires in three weeks. By the looks of the ad it is still currently not broadcasting as the mast has been dismantled. The owner already had the majority of his LPON FM licences cancelled by ACMA because he hadn’t used them for a period of time. I wonder if it is actually worth anything?
1386 has been in the Sydney LAP and laying fallow for over a decade. Obviously no entity wants it. Perhaps they could surrender it to the pirates; the concept would be similar to a legal graffiti wall.
Just noticed something today, 87.8 is no longer Vintage fm in NW Sydney it is now a foreign language station. Not Voice of Islam.
Also River is no longer as strong as it use to, it looks like they have turned it down a bit.
Voice of Islam was cutting in underneath in places it didn’t previously.
