Is it Radio Austral? Maybe they bought 87.8 from Wayne to complete there Sydney coverage for 87.8.

That would be it as it was not Arabic.
Much weaker then Vintage fm so must be coming from a different location. Now I only get Vintage fm on 88.7.

River fm is still much weaker then it was before, It seems more likely to be at 1.64W now. Previously it was closer to the strength of the TCL’s from Kurrajong Heights, it looks like they have turned it down considerably.

In Canberra on holidays and noticed some changes to the LPON’s

Raw fm is no longer broadcast in stereo now back in mono, why would they change all their stereo transmissions back to mono.

Cannot receive 87.8 UCfm at all in Dickson on the car radio, are they off air or have reduced their power???

Thankfully living in the Blacktown LGA I have been able to leave Sydney.

On air at very reduced power. You can just hear them from Gungahlin central and on Mount Ainslie. Previously they could be heard all over the northern suburbs and even on the hills around Bungendore.

Canberra Visitor Radio is no longer on air so 87.8 is virtually a clear channel. Sumo 87.8 would go down nicely.

We’re they over spec and had to turn it down?
It got out very well almost to Yass before the power was turned down. Way over 1.64W I would think.

I would say it’s more likely that their transmitter failed and they’re using a quick and dirty setup. University funding being what it is, especially for marginal activities such as radio broadcasting, may mean the cash is not there for a replacement.

Raw has been pumping out excess wattage from its cottage for over a decade, right under the ACMA’s nose…

Why would they have turned off the stereo???
At one stage it was stereo and RDS too.

Makes sense about 2UCfm. It’s a pity they are at reduced power and with the clear frequency. They are one of the better stations in Canberra.

Though that’s not saying much. 2CA and Mix are listenable but the rest leave a lot to be desired, even the DAB only options. We desperately need Triple M Classic Rock and/or a Smooth outlet to add a bit more variety. I would love to hear 2XL on DAB as 96.1 doesn’t really penetrate into the Canberra bowl. It’s not going to happen though; there’s not enough differentiation with 2CA.

Re. Raw FM regressing to mono; your guess is as good as mine.

SEN might be interested in that, I’m thinking.

SEN Track 747?

Yeah, I could easily see (or more to the point, hear) that becoming a thing. Probably wouldn’t get too many listeners though…

I was thinking more about the Hobart FM licence. That Gosford AM licence seems rather restrictive.

SEN Track is already broadcast on 801 AM

I think SEN ā€œnormalā€ but it may breach the rules. ie relay 1170 to the Central Coast. But it isn’t a commercial license. If it was a commercial license I think Nine Radio should consider snapping it up. Maybe a repeater for 2GB. Even Bill could be interested, the missing link between 2HD and 2SM call it 2GO ?

You would think the only taker would be Sky Sports Radio. They currently don’t have a local broadcast on the Central Coast. Two racing stations next to each other in a regional market; gotta love Australian radio.

UCB/Vision?

That’s the only other possibility, but they seem to be expanding less these days.

Must be less dollars around there. They don’t even produce weekend news bulletins. Other providers like AIR News are airing their weekend editions on 96.5 Brisbane and Salt FM Sunshine Coast in Vision’s place.
