“House on Fire” was from her debut album “Amelia”, which was released two years ago yesterday (March 3, 2023). The album peaked at #41 on the Australian ARIA Digital Albums Chart; the only country where it charted outside of Europe.
“24/5” is from Seven Shades of Heartbreak. That EP also spawned the prior hits “Good Without” and “Dumb Love”; the latter peaked at #43 on the ARIA Singles Chart in August 2021.
Mimi will have another album coming out soon. Fun fact: “House on Fire” and “Red Flags” were both produced by Cirkut, the man responsible for many of Ava Max’s global smash hits including “Sweet but Psycho” and “So Am I”.
I think sometimes we forget just how huge this track was when it was first released. What a breakthrough.
No, no, you’ll play along Let her lead you on You’ll be saying, “No, no” Then saying, “Yes, yes, yes” ‘Cause she messin’ with your head
I remember being at Taco Bell Annerley with my daughter and this song was absolutely being hammered on the jukebox. She was embarrassed because it was her favorite song at the time. Number 2 on the ARIA charts. A huge debut track.
I remember just sitting at home and hearing this for the first time and I was instantly hooked. I immediately had to google who it was even before the song finished.
It’s not often this happens. Sometimes songs click after a few listens but then there are songs with a great hook that work instantly.
And we know these are great songs with great producers and music executives behind it.
Thankyou for sharing about the instant hook. Because it’s amazing when it happens. I’m glad we’re in the music thread - because that it music.
Actress Kate Hudson was on this week’s episode of The Graham Norton Show to talk about the deluxe version release of her debut album, Glorious. I didn’t know Kate can sing!
A clip from the music video of Right On Time (from the deluxe edition) was played on the show.
She also performed Right on Time on BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room in late February.
Though admittedly he has been remixing old songs and injecting some fresh energy into it, as is the case with “Stumblin’ In” and “Still Into You” (the original song is only just over a decade old).
Another new track which I’m sure will punch above its weight is:
Brad Cox - I’m a boxer
It’s only been on YouTube three days but I’m expecting big airplay across stations like MMM Country/ABC Country. And I wouldn’t be surprised if JJJ picks it up and then give it three months and it’ll been on SCA regionals and on Rage.
Has a sound very similar to Sam Fender’s People Watching. Drop-downs in the verses then a real shift-up momentum in the chorus.
But Aussies will love it - tradies particularly. Great crossover track.
