Very much a staple on 7mate as a filler (often when the NFL finishes early). Her superb Citi concert series set features a spine-tingling ‘Scars to your beautiful’ and a heartfelt rendition of the Zedd EDM classic ‘Stay’.
Valentines Day and love and hyperbole… nice touch. Track 8. “(Isn’t It) Obvious” is so cruisy and chill - it features a back-of-house John Mayer guitar solo. After playing it my Spotify seamlessly to me to Gas station cowboy hats by Nightly. What a superb song.
There’s certainly no lack of great music around in 2025!
Kendrick Lamar has topped this week’s ARIA singles chart (Not Like Us) and albums chart (GNX) following his performance at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday.
After years of global domination by stars such as Ed Sheeran, Adele and Harry Styles, British music artists have failed to make it into the worldwide annual charts of the year’s top 10 bestselling singles or albums - for the first time in more than two decades.
No UK acts featured on either list for 2024, as published by global music industry body the IFPI.
Dua Lipa and Coldplay aside, I think Myles Smith did well among British artists in 2014.
His breakthrough hit “Stargazing”, as well as “Training Season” (Dua Lipa), “Somedays” (Sonny Fodera/Jazzy/D.O.D.) and “feelslikeimfallinginlove” (Coldplay) are up for Song of the Year at the 2025 Brit Awards which will take place on Saturday 1 March.
Strictly speaking, though, neither Sonny Fodera (born in Adelaide) nor Jazzy (born in Dublin) are British, though D.O.D. is.
In the UK, their top ten albums and singles for 2024 were (predictably) flooded by American artists, including Taylor Swift, Benson Boone and Sabrina Carpenter.
Not even Dua Lipa or Coldplay made the top ten in either as British artists were locked out for the first time since 2003.
I feel last year was a huge year for American music overall, with the likes of DJO, Teddy Swims and Gracie Abrams all making an impact.
DJO has just completed an Australian tour, performing at the Laneway Festivals as well as an exclusive headline show in Sydney.
Drake’s private jet has left Australia this morning, despite the fact the rapper has a handful of huge shows left to perform.
A show at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena is set to follow on Friday March 7, ahead of two dates in New Zealand on March 15 and 16.
But the Courier Mail reports that the rapper’s stage equipment, including a giant clear walkway used in every show of the tour, will be shipped to Europe this week.
Update: Drake’s private jet left Australia this morning – and now confirmation comes that the rapper has cancelled his Aussie tour altogether.
APT. has reclaimed the number one position, while Tate McRae has had a few entries following the release of her third studio album “So Close to What”. Speaking of which…
Albums
SCTW has debuted at number one; I think this is Tate’s first number one album in Australia. Despite this, she has not yet announced whether she’ll return to the country as part of the Miss Possessive Tour, due to kick off in North America later this year.
“People Watching” by Sam Fender has debuted at #17.
Green Day’s concert on the Gold Coast tomorrow night has been cancelled due to Cyclone Alfred. It was supposed to be the final stop of the band’s 2025 Australian tour.
