Mushroom Murder Verdict News Coverage

Did anyone hear any coverage of the verdict on radio?

Well, Estelle was still there, and did the lead story in Melbourne.

I don’t think she was sidelined.

And the rest of Australia got a familiar face.

Evidently, they would have been better to have had Musher lead the coverage from Sydney. Or ever Karina, given her experience on ABC. Mike was not able to carry the coverage at all.

Just seemed like a bit of an excuse to have him infront of work that others had done for the sake of gravitas.
Just my opinion :man_shrugging:t2:

Fair enough. But Melbourne still had plenty of other reporters scattered about.

I think bringing in Chris was fine, particularly for the national audience.

It’s a shame. 7 had Mike Amor on the ground all of last week.
Presumably, if the verdict had been reached last week we would have delivered a more engaging coverage from on the ground

Which is surprising as Mike is usually good at rolling news and known nationally. I watched briefly and he seemed fine. But I didn’t see the whole broadcast.

Had a feeling that the networks would be having specials on this case. Tonight with Seven, and tomorrow night on Nine (and again on Sunday Night on Seven, i meant Spotlight…).

I can’t wait for the mini series to air. Oh wait, ABC have this in the plans already, titles Toxic.

Glad the public finally got to see all the vision, etc we haven’t been allowed to see until now, made for fascinating viewing, especially that doctor’s phone call from the hospital.

And I see networks have already slotted in specials left, right and centre.

Chris Reason actually wasn’t seen in Melbourne tonight, at least during the headlines/block before first ad break, which was surprising.

That’s a bit harsh, it was live major breaking news on-air and he correctly read out 3 guilty verdicts and accidentally when reading notes started with “wil… Ian Wilkinson” on the last.

Not really IMO - he did an extended national report, recapping the trial and the day, while the local reporters had more of a local angle, etc.

For the record, Adelaide did a live cross midway through the bulletin to Nick McCallum outside the prison where Erin Pattinson is being held

TBH - all of them carried on like pork chops. I wouldn’t rate one any better than the others. How this became international headlines is beyond me. Probably the most exciting thing to have happened in the Gippsland area since the Morwell Falcons were in the NSL.

with the way 7 had their ‘rolling coverage’ last week and also today, you would think that they have some sort of rights to a mushroom saga special or something. i felt 7 went with way too much stuff last week

Despite all the resources Seven had, it’s worth noting that 10 was actually the first free-to-air network to deliver the guilty verdict by a few seconds. So much for those promos claiming Seven would be first.:winking_face_with_tongue:

Looks like they aren’t so Unstoppable after all…

That wasn’t what I was referring to, he named one of the victims “Heather Patterson”… there was Gail Patterson, and Gail’s sister Heather Wilkinson.

Sure it’s breaking news, but the fact that it is in fact “major” and we had been approaching a verdict for 11 weeks, would suggest that one of the main anchors should prepare.
