I’m surprised they haven’t used it for torture purposes.

When reached for comment, a Department of Defence official told Business Insider, “There is no Department of War directive requiring service members to see this film, though the film is fantastic.”

Nice to see the DoD diversifying into movie recommendations

Isn’t the DoD now the Department of War? Or should we call it the Department of Crappy Movies?

Department of War was declared the preferred name through an Executive Order but it’s technically still the Department of Defence. I’m treating it like a Twitter/X situation :face_with_tongue:

Popular Event Cinemas Glenelg to close its doors in another blow for Jetty Road

Jetty Road will be losing another stalwart player in its retail strip, as a popular cinema has announced its closure after a decade.

Event Cinemas Glenelg will be closing its doors on March 23, exactly 10 years since it opened in 2016.

The closure of the Glenelg branch would leave the branch at Westfield Marion as the sole Event Cinema complex in the state (of South Australia), following the closure of the Arndale branch in 2021.

Scream is back once again with a box office bang plus all sorts of good and bad publicity and very mixed reception.

A great look at its three decade legacy here by the ABC:

The offical trailer for Scary Movie 6 has been released.

Looking forward to this!

A viral social post from the USA regarding a “Free” YouTube Movie, the OG Scary Movie and how it has been edited for content:

https://x.com/i/status/2030376445202088279

I’ve never noticed, but wonder if the prints on YouTube Australia are modified/TV versions as well? Often they are from the same distributors. I think that’s very poor, like it’s 2026 come on, they clearly have the rating visible before playing and most likely a warning at the commencement as well, not to mention parental controls.

If you’re a true Scary Movie fan, you already have the original unedited version.

And you’ll scoff at Gen Z and Alpha for apparently being offended by the new movie. I say STFU.

I’m particularly a fan of the sequel, set in the haunted mansion. Chris Elliott stole every scene he was in (the cameraman from Groundhog Day) and LOL at James Woods’ cameo as the priest at the beginning!

Nice memories from Dennis Quaid here on The Parent Trap and the late Natasha Richardson (via Variety):

apologies for double post

Solid take I saw pop-up online, I somewhat tend to agree: :man_shrugging:

And good to see Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer back with some big productions and wide releases, that could end up doing well (including subsequent sales via tvod, cable, physical media, svod, fta/bvod), which are outside of James Bond.

Owned by Amazon now though of course and expect an exclusive first pay window to Prime Video, maybe later to Stan and Nine.

Side note: Sony Pictures yes, but they’re only handing theatrical distribution and marketing here for Amazon/MGM.

The Razzies have been “run” and “won”.

The video…yeah, not much chop.

The press release:

46th Razzie® Award Winners Announcement

Ice Cube and War of the Worlds (2025) win the battle for most Razzie take-homes!
Kate Hudson redeems her previous Razzie nods with her pitch-perfect performance in Song Sung Blue.

It was a decisive battle and War of the Worlds won the 46th Razzie® Awards hands down! Becoming a cult hate-watch classic almost immediately, War of the Worlds (the 2025 version) has been cemented in Razzie history as a near sweeper of our $4.97 trophy winner. Remake, Actor, Screenplay, Director, and Picture win huge for this Amazon Prime offering. Utterly destroying H.G Wells classic novel, director Rich Lee (maybe inspired by Ed Wood) chose a goofy gimmick, hack dialogue, and a particularly hilarious performance by its lead, Ice Cube, to seize 2025’s biggest number of statues.
Another reimagined winner was the Disney 2025 version of Snow White , whose artificial dwarfs couldn’t escape the Razzie for a couple of trophies. It cost a fortune and lost a fortune, perhaps cursed by Walt himself for having ignored his dying wish for it never to be remade.
Other winners include Rebel Wilson for her not-quite-believable performance as an action hero in Bride Hard with weaponized curling irons and Scarlet Rose Stallone for her modernized performance in the odd western, Gunslingers .
This year’s recipient of the Razzie Redeemer Award is Kate Hudson for her pitch perfect performance in Song Sung Blue after a string of Razzie nods (Music, Mother’s Day and My Best Friend’s Girl ) following her Oscar nomination for Almost Famous .
At least these were the pickings of our globe-spanning, opinionated Razzie Award Members.

About the Razzie Awards:
Voting Razzie Members (1,223 from all 50 US States and over two dozen foreign countries) cast their ballots online, each selecting their five top contenders in nine categories. This year’s “Winners” will be unveiled on the now traditional date of “Oscar Eve,” Saturday, March 14th

For the 7th time ever in Oscars history, there was a tie. It was the live-action short category.

“One Battle After Another” took six awards, followed by “Frankenstein” (four), “Sinners” (three) and “KPop Demon Hunters” (two).

Warner Bros’ One Battle After Another was named Best Picture at the 98th annual Academy Awards, which were handed out Sunday night at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

One Battle After Another scored a leading six wins, and WB’s Sinners was next with four, ending a marathon awards season in which the studio mates battled each other for months. Warner Bros led distributors with 11 statuettes. Netflix was next with five — plus one for Live Action Short — including three for Frankenstein. The streamer’s KPop Demon Hunters is the night’s only other multiple winner.
