Disney seems to be killing it self.

Not good for retailers here in Australia.

And they wonder why people decide to torrent stuff. Not everyone wants to pay for streaming every month.
I’m disappointed by this. I’ve got a small collection of 4K Bluray which I’ve been expanding slowly.

For mine, the bigger worry is will this make other distributors here follow and even globally? Surely not a snap decision by Kylie Watson-Wheeler at South Yarra HQ, I’d say on orders from her Disney chiefs back in LA, maybe using this territory as a ‘test’.

Disney were actually one of the only if not only studios here to still distribute DVDs for nearly every title, even ancient or forgotten ones, as well as one of the only if not only to still use the early 2000s styles for original titles rather than updating to current packaging. A lot of other studios don’t sell DVDs etc for a lot of underperforning or lesser titles anymore, not just old but newer, or they use another party like “Shock”.

I hope it means, however, they might consider reinstating the “rent” option on digital, otherwise unless you have a Disney+ sub or wait for TV, you’ll be forking out anywhere from $12 to $30 per title! Some DVDs to own from them (at least at JB) are as cheap as chips, a few bucks. And then there’s all that talk of removing titles from Disney+ heading back down the licencing path to other streamers / broadcasters. Bob Iger, make up your mind!

After 67 years in business, the Dandenong Lunar Drive-In theatre’s last screen has been officially dismantled.

Australia’s largest drive-in theatre’s last night in action was July 9, before the cinema had to close to high operational costs.

I swear Col goes to the cinemas every second day, literally

Given that’s his job that’s not so strange.

I think that’s the job of his Herald Sun colleague Leigh Paatsch.

I thought he was freelance now? Used to be part of the national TV writing team.

Exactly and he’s been in that position for a long time now.

These knock offs look hilarious - how quickly they are getting these released!

Based on a true story

High quality productions, I’m sure.

That’s remarkable considering Barbie had average box office results in South Korea (where Oppenheimer, which opened only two weeks ago, sold more tickets) and Barbie is banned in Vietnam and a dozen of MENA countries.

Barbie became available on-demand (payment) this Tuesday for rent/buy (expensive due to premiere and also still theatrical run in cinemas), set to land within the next month or two on HBO Max in North America (but probably 6 months until most likely Foxtel/Binge here who recently landed the WB deal due to being licenced rather than Discovery owned OTT service - unless they allow earlier like America for this) and no release date yet for physical home media but probably within the next few months (usually in-between the first and second digital windows). Pay TV airing should be simultaneous on Foxtel when comes on Binge/Go and FTA TV airing most likely 2 years on the Nine Network.

update

“Mission Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning- Part 1” will finally be available on payment digital Tuesday October 10 in under a month, this despite being released significantly earlier than Barbie.

I watched the 1986 Australian classic ‘Malcolm’ on Netflix last night.

In a rarity, they used a real house with the real address in the movie (not a fake address like they usually do)… (screenshots below)… The actual house is now a block of flats in Google Street view, sadly.

Great film…. Definitely recommend this old classic. Currently screening on SBS World Movies and on Demand.

Barbara Broccoli told The Guardian there is a “big road ahead” before the iconic character is “reinvented for the next chapter.” She added that executives also “haven’t even begun” to modernize the franchise yet.
