Movies on TV

FTA premiere, from Seven’s deal with 20th Century Fox. Did very well at the box office. The song This is Me won a Golden Globe award and is frequently used in various TV performances.

@Sully is going to be out of a job shortly.

But not initially, a sleeper hit. Word of mouth and that bloody song!

This is embarrassing for Seven…

Hope it is an isolated problem and the movie gets a smooth broadcast in WA later tonight. Additionally it should get a re-run on 7mate soon without any hitch.
EDIT: turn out the same problem occurred in Perth, based on comments posted on TV Tonight.

Ransom switched from Seven to Nine on 3/9/2005
“…for the first time on Nine…”

Good find! Had wondered this myself, I’d been able to trace back to at least 2006 from a TV guide.

This is of course an extremely rare occurrence, as Seven had the Buena Vista TV (Disney) output. Nine must’ve purchased this title one-off for a handsome price, there are some other examples, “Twister” being another (Nine first had rights even though 10 had the NBC-U output, before it went to 10 in the mid-2000s).

I’d also like to acknowledge @Zampakid’s tireless work (but obviously one he absolutely loves doing) in trawling through countless VHS recordings, etc, one after the other and uploading YouTube videos and images for historical and interest sake. Seems to go to quite the effort to obtain them too.

21 nights of Bond coming to 9Gem

“Before the new Bond movie No Time To Die hits cinemas…”

Looks like Nine renegotiated their MGM deal, as rights to Bond (certainly some such as “Casino Royale”) definitely expired in June last year. Unless they’re not airing all of them, but surely they would, probably some nights will have two.

It will start this Sunday night (March 15) with Dr No, with at least one title each night.
Nine is continuing with the campaign even though cinema release of No Time to Die has been pushed back to November.

7mate have returned an old tag line/graphic “Double Feature Sundays”, with Clash of the Titans and Wrath of the Titans.

Hilarious V/O Duncan Fellows then goes “…but it’s actually 3 movies… Because we can’t count! Double Feature Sundays (now with 3 movies)” LOL :joy:

(Also includes late night movie - which is rarely promoted - Exodus Gods and Kings “and for the first time on mate”. Previously aired on 10. From the 20C Fox output).

Peter Rabbit (2018) FTA premiere

(From Prime7 on Facebook, but promo said “before it hits cinemas” or something, so might’ve been edited or no longer broadcasting)

Early 1995 WIN airing of ‘The Exorcist’…13 years before Nine aired the “Version You’ve Never Seen” version in 2008:

James Corden’s voice as Peter Rabbit just doesn’t work for me. I’m looking at the character but thinking of a pretentious prima donna. Corden is a talented guy, but his previous put on smug act has become real - he seems to actually believe he is above everyone else.

Airdate: January 28, 1995.

That was the 8.30pm movie, with Exorcist II on at 11.05pm (with a National Nine Newsbreak in the guides for 11pm) for the night owls.

“Stormbreaker” (2006) airing on 9Go! for the second time, in the exact timeslot in 2 weeks? I wonder why, weird.

Saturday 11 April has Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Nine and Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory on Seven, both at 7pm.

While on SBS we have Slow TV The Chocolate Factory: Inside Cadbury Australia
