Movies on TV

Thanks for the heads up.

Good to see The Fabelmans having an airing on FTA. I agree that it is hidden away on the ABC Entertains channel, rather than on the main ABC channel. But either way, at least it will air ad free.

I saw a promo at 8:30pm on the ABC for “90s Flicks” or something starting next Friday night, on iView and Entertains.

I get the feeling Entertains is 75% used as a push for iView, I’d imagine bvod is where all of Entertains’ content is seeing increased/new traffic vs the broadcast m/c, of which used to rate very niche (ABC 3?) IIRC.

Retro has appeal, especially free and no ads, there’d be plenty checking out some ER, Merlin, Mother and Son or classic movies (great Hollywood studio library - usually seen on svod or a commercial network) and the like. Same for the other networks in a similar sence. It’s been promoted on-air, online and on iView too.

How can Nine call it “network premiere” when it won’t be shown in South Australia, because it has the primetime replay of the Adelaide Christmas Pageant? Could be a while before the 007 movie is shown on Nine in SA.

Channel Ten also aired “The Wonderful World of Disney” from 1995 to 1997 whilst Channel 7 was still airing Disney programming.

This was definitely out of my knowledge until now. Realistically I expected 9Go to air it.

Of the slew of films on FTA tonight, typical for a Friday and especially Saturday, there’s actually a good and different one on 10’s Nickelodeon Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002).

Sam Rockwell’s acclaimed breakthrough performance 22 years ago, directed by and co-starring George Clooney and also starring Drew Barrymore and Julia Roberts. From Miramax via Paramount.

But of course, it’ll have zero promotion or exposure, probably register a 0.5% share, get 7 viewers and nobody would’ve noticed it. But a terrific, underappreciated movie, recommended, inspired by a contentious real life story too.

As The Day of the Jackal becomes a hit and acclaimed on Foxtel/Binge and globally on Sky and Peacock, Nine still have rights to “The Day of the Jackal” (1973) and “The Jackal” (1997) from their expired NBC-U output and will air them on 9Gem next Sunday and Friday respectively.

On This Day In 1998, The Universal Pictures Films Casper And Babe Premiered Back To Back On The Seven Network, Despite Network Ten Having The Universal Output Deal At The Time.

Saw a promo and longer than usual on Seven last night during the news, for tonight’s FTA premiere of 65 “after the cricket”. It’s from Sony and has been available on select paid streamers for a year now. Seven will most likely have limited vod rights to the title as well.
