Speed and Speed 2 on Channel 9 tonight, Mrs Doubtfire next week
There might be one for Speed 2 as well (probably only “next” in Speed’s last two ad breaks around 9:30pm), as Nine did one for Volcano recently, I think the night Twister aired, to network playout
Friday 18 October noon, Seven
Friday 18 October noon, Nine
Saturday 19 October 7:30 pm 9Go!
Nine did well last night selecting Speed and Speed 2 for their lineup. Classic action moves from the 90s seem to work.
One thing I appreciate about Nine and its associated multichannels is that they generally show the end credits of movies. Even if it’s sped up a bit, the entire credits sequence is shown without being squeezed into a corner or (like the Seven channels) removed completely.
This is especially good when you’ve watched an intense thriller (like The Silence of the Lambs on 9Gem last night) and need a bit of time to reflect on the film you’ve just watched…
Back to the Future on Seven 4/12/1998.
It was the only time (until 2013 and 2023) they aired the film while the sequels were re-running on Ten.
Saturday 26 October 8:30 pm Seven (except Brisbane)
Saturday 26 October 7:30pm 9Go!
Monday 21 October 8:30pm 9Go!
I was watching the film “Fools Rush In” (1997) on Prime Video, starring the late great Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek. It regained interest in celebration to Perry a year ago, following his tragic passing and tribute social media post from Hayek. It’s aired on 9Go! a bit too including coincidentally just the other week.
It originally first ran on Ten, premiering in early 2001, back when they had the Columbia TriStar output. It repeated in mid-September that year, just days after 9/11 on Sat 15 Sep 2001 I believe following another Sony title and great pic “Fly Away Home”.
Given the Twin Towers featured in Fools Rush In (partly set in NYC as well as Vegas), wonder if Ten ended up pulling the September airing, due to the awful World Trade Centre events just over 4 days prior our time? There’s always somebody out there who will know.
A find on NITV tonight, a rarely seen oldie but a goodie in thriller “Child’s Play” (1972), based on the stage play, starring the great James Mason, Robert Preston and a younger Beau Bridges. Directed by the one and only Sidney Lumet.
However given the odd title for broadcast, I am a bit dubious. Is it actually a mistake with either SBS programming or the guide software, eBroadcast for example also suggests the same, but has often generated incorrect data for a matching title? As this title is more known for the late 80s horror flick and subsequent franchise with ‘Chucky’ the doll, from MGM (which I’m sure SBS also had rights to in recent times). @TV.Cynic might be able to confirm.
It’s the 1972/3 version.
Two teachers (James Mason, Robert Preston) breed violence at a boys boarding school, with a gym teacher (Beau Bridges) in the middle. 1973 USA
Fab!
If it were wrong, I was even considering renting it on TVOD (Transactional Video on Demand) where Google Australia says it’s officially available via various services such as YouTube Movies.
But NITV will now be getting some audience and share from yours truly tonight (even if I’m the sole viewer)
Saturday 2 November 7:30pm Nine. Update - except Adelaide
3 years for first run, some are only 1.5 years these days, perhaps due to being a Bond and how well received this entry was, Craig’s ‘swan song’.
Wonder if they’ll be doing another 007 marathon coinciding with this FTA premiere, going into summer as per previous years, any sign on 9Gem? Nine noted it in TVT’s annual m/c survey as a “success story” the other day. If so, I’d expect No Time To Die to be encored at a later stage, maybe even twice if also pops up on 9Go! or something in a couple of weeks after Saturday’s premiere.
The Fabelmans has its FTA first run on ABC Entertains tonight, good get by the ABC, a shame it won’t be on the main channel though (as their popular dramas take priority on the usual TV film nights of Fridays and Saturdays).
