Movies on TV

Some of the imported channels on Fetch such as NDTV 24X7 and Channel News Asia have all programs rated M as they haven’t been classified so they just give everything the same blanket classification.

A tad lazy. But probably doesn’t matter. Most people probably won’t change their minds as to watch something just because it’s violent and doesn’t have sexual scenes or vice versa, if you get my drift.

Probably should have been given R18+ by the OFLC. It was basically softcore porn.

I thought it was given R18+ by the CB though?

Edit
This is the file log from the CB for Season 2 of the show…

10 calling the indie movie “Hunter’s prayer” a “10 Peach premiere” in V/O in the promo for tonight, while technically correct is still very misleading. FTA premiere on 10 Bold over summer.

Should’ve said “first time” or something, which they’ve used before and Seven always use. Even though it’s dumb.

Is this a FTA premiere? I remember Nine and 9GO! had shown the first movie.

Yes. First movie is licensed to TV by Roadshow (whom Nine still have first look deal with).

Second movie is licensed by Sony (whom all networks have cherry pick deals for multiple movies/shows - also such as Seinfeld rights shifting to 10, who also had Sony output in 90s including The Nanny)

I notice from IMDb that John Wick 3, currently in cinemas, is also licensed by Sony (Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment), so it means either Seven or Nine will get it in a couple of years’ time. But it also means a John Wick trilogy DVD/Blu-ray may not be possible as Roadshow distributes the first movie.

Could be anyone really, the old “outputs” are virtually all but gone now. 10 have clearly just signed a contract with Sony to be licensed (again) for Seinfeld and usually never are these one off, most likely a content supply deal of some sort whereby they’ve cherry picked a string of back-catalogue movies including upcoming and future FTA premiers and maybe another show or two…

We’ll see.

But you have written previously that Ten now has a deal with Village Roadshow.

Not for first runs. They’ve all been re-runs. Nine have aired all FTA premieres from Roadshow the last year or two.

Same goes for Disney.

Means a premiere to 10 Peach. Can see how you find it misleading but disagree over the significance of it

Exactly my point, it’s not significant in the slightest (to mention that it is the first time on a network, let alone a channel!)

Should only be mentioned if a true FTA premiere, even now that doesn’t really matter.

From last week: “Ice Age 2: The Meltdown” (2006) network premiere, V/O by Sarah Aubrey

(There would’ve been a main channel version for some markets too)

Update

Technically I got that wrong. So, “John Wick” franchise is released by Summit Entertainment (who also released Hunger Games, Divergent and Twilight). However they have very limited presence outside North America with no distribution operations in Australia.

Therefore various distributors including Roadshow, eOne and 20C Fox used to handle their titles in Australia (i.e.) “John Wick” (2014) is handled by Roadshow here, hence licenced to TV by them and Nine have the rights.

But in early 2017 (just before “John Wick: Chapter 2” was released), Summit signed a long-term exclusive output with Studiocanal for AUS/NZ territory, who do have Australian operations (i.e.) “John Wick: Chapter 2” (2017) is handled by Studiocanal, licenced to TV by them and Seven were awarded the rights.

Studiocanal doesn’t have an exclusive output with any network, but does have long-running deal with Seven (e.g.) “Twilight” franchise, “Alex Cross”, “The Three Musketeers”, “The Host”, “Before I Go To Sleep”, “Cuban Fury”, “Mr Brooks” to name some.
Nine also have a deal with them recently including “Rambo” franchise (previously on Seven), “Terminator 2” (previously on Seven and 10), “Stargate”, “Escape From New York”, “Red Heat”, “Death On The Nile” and a long-running licence for “Cliffhanger” to name some.

To make things more confusing, Studiocanal don’t licence Home Entertainment in Australia, so have an exclusive HE licence with Sony (via the joint Universal/Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Australia arm) to distribute their DVDs and digital. Which is what I mistook originally.

Seven appear to have struck a digital movie licence (first for CFTA ever?)

“John Wick 2” (2017) is on 7Plus, after last night’s broadcast FTA premiere.

Wonder when it expires? More importantly will it have ads
