The offer has failed.

Excerpts from the Herald Sun / Code Sports report

Victoria has lost the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix after almost three decades of hosting the annual race.

In a major blow to the state’s major events calendar the race will move interstate next year with the government failing to lock in a new contract.

The Herald Sun has confirmed with government sources this year’s race would be the last to be staged at its iconic Phillip Island home, where it has been held annually since 1997.

Opposition Leader Jess Wilson slammed the loss.

“Another state has snatched the chequered flag and will take the crowds, visitors and economic activity with them,” she said.

It was Dorna Sports’ (MotoGP commercial rights holder) demand to move the MotoGP from Phillip Island to Albert Park that led to the Victorian government losing the contract. To me, Dorna Sports thinks MotoGP is now too big for Phillip Island and needs to go elsewhere.

Shouldn’t Jess Wilson put the blame on Dorna Sports for this?

Bring it to Sydney! Add it to the V8s at Sydney Motorsport Park!

Sydney Motorsport Park actually hosted the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix (predecessor of MotoGP) from 1991 to 1996.

Good. Bring it back.

Street circuit or The Bend?

The Fox Family will be a big part of this too - they own PI and have traditionally put a high price on the circuit (which has lead to Supercars abandoning the venue too)

MotoGP want a street circuit - but I can’t see that the Adelaide Street Circuit is any more capable of being made safe than what Albert Park is. I wouldn’t be surprised if Australia drops off the calendar

I bet the teams would be more than happy to drop Australia. If they can’t find a suitable street circuit, there’s your trigger for leaving.

As a South Australian, time for payback to those Victorian’s who stole our Grand Prix

Why is Australia the exception? If you look at this year’s MotoGP calendar, every race is held on an off street circuit.

Why not? Mix things up. NASCAR have road races and most of them are in bowls where they go around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around and around. F1 has a mixture of street and track circuits.

I’m thinking about the costs that teams have to spend getting to Australia. We’re not a cheap place to get to.

:joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy: bloody brilliant

What do you think its funny?
