Looking at the average audience column Married at First Sight got off to another great start with Idol somewhat competitive but with only about 60% of the audience. Survivor also made the top 10. Nemesis was a stand out for ABC ranking 5th. The Chase â still coded as two segments â was ahead of Tipping that had just one entry. Deal or No Deal made the top 20 â better at 6pm than 10 has had for a while.
This is going to be really hard to compare year on year but it seems like in total audience MAFS did as expected and Idol maybe performed slightly better than last year.
Australian Survivor seemed to fall right at the bottom of the reality battle. 572k which includes regional and BVOD - those are ratings I think we would consider pretty bad now? It doesnât surprise me though to be honest. The theme they chose this year just wasnât exciting and 10 have kind of ruined the show by previously using so much stunt casting (like D-grade celebs and returning contestants) that a normal cast is then harder to promote to casual viewers.
I reckon Sevenâs probably relieved with the new ratings system that it includes the regional figures that prop them up against Nine and 10 both of whom are comparatively weaker in those areas.
Looking at the ratings (hopefully Iâve interpreted it correctly), looks like many people sampled Tipping Pont, but then switched to The Chase (or other shows). Could also be people turning on ahead of the 6pm news. Looks like people were also sampling the double trouble setup for The Chase.
Deal or No Deal looks to be a switch off after sampling.
Great to see Nemesis did great, getting higher ratings than Australian Idol. Home and Away also appears of gotten higher ratings than Idol as well.
Meanwhile MAFS looks like itâs set to dominate the next few months.
this is why the âreachâ figure, while itâs nice to have, itâs essentially meaningless. We have no context around why there is such a drop between reach and average. Are people not liking the show and tuning out? Are they just turning on a minute or so early for the news? Are they people channel surfing? I suppose networks will be getting more valueable data that would address these questions, but it doesnât tell us a lot.
I would like to think it did better due to the âMarciaâ factor. A bit more credibility on the judging panel with the return of the previous idol judge and legend. If you get a chance make sure you see Grease - Marcia as Teen Angel is great casting
Youâre the man. Much easier by avg audience.
Still a piss-poor new format though; lack of 5 city overnights will take ages to adjust to.
Seems like more people tuned in at 6PM for Deal or No Deal, but still seems like a super weak start.
Also interesting that people seemed to trial Tipping Point and then turned it off judging by the reach numbers. Will take time for people to adjust to the new schedule.
I believe @TV.Cynic noted that it was at 610k average national + BVOD (40k down from last year, which had a bigger marketing push and didnât have the launch date change fiasco), which is a tolerable decrease, especially with the circumstances - I would be curious to see catch-up numbers as Survivor does appear to skew younger and younger people are less inclined to watch live.
National audiences for this day last year were excl BVOD. The Chase is basically the same but Tipping Point Australia and Deal or No Deal are way higher.
The Chase 807,000
The Chase 5pm 509,000
Hot Seat 452,000
Hot Seat 5pm (except Ade and Per) 297,000
10 News 6pm 222,000
A lot to process. No surprises that Married at First Sight won the night. Its not my cup of tea, but itâs been a big success for Nine. So kudos to them. Idol did well enough for Seven, while Survivor did okay for 10.
More people watched a snippet of Tipping Point Aus, but more people watched The Chase Aus across the average of the hour. Id say Tipping Point was coded as one with the âlaunchâ, but may be coded as two tonight?
Deal or No Deal did okay for 10, but will go downwards soon (going by past shows in that timeslot).
The Project coded as one? Well, thatâs one positive.
At least Seven and Nineâs 6pm News and the Afternoon News are coded as one, alongside now with The Project. Some consistency there. Come on the Chase Aus, you can do it too.
I guess it makes it look better in terms of reach? Since they report reach/sampling over a minute, it makes sense a 60 minute slot would reach more over a 30 minute slot.
