Monday’s Australia Day public holiday produced one of the biggest nights of TV for the year so far. Seven won the night with its best Monday in four weeks to be three ahead of Nine. That saw the other networks lose share from last week.

The Hurricanes claimed their first Big Bash title coasting to an easy victory that saw an average of 1.083m watching on Seven. That was a big improvement for the previous season final (on a Wednesday) that had 768k national viewers.

For Nine, a new season of Married At First Sight got underway with a massive 1.353 m national viewers including 262k via BVOD. That was up on both the 2024 (1.252m) and 2023 (1.29m) season premiers and was the number one entertainment show of the night.

10’s I’m A Celebrity featuring Sigrid Thornton in a pit full of snakes just missed the top 10 and averaged 562k while ABC’s Escaping Utopia dropped to 358k.

Later, Nine’s Trump’s Triumph Week 1 benefited from its lead in to average 581k. 10’s NCIS Sydney had 206k while Strictly Ballroom on ABC managed 188k.

At 6pm Seven News was almost 200k ahead of Nine bulletin. That was after Tipping Point returned for the year with a +50k win over The Chase. A Current Affair was also back with an impressive + 1 million result at 7pm with ABC News on 851k.

At 5pm 10’s News surged to 442k, its first bulletin to rate over 400k since 2021.

Because of the holiday, breakfast saw numbers lower than usual with Sunrise taking a 90k win.

  • Married at First Sight returned as Australia’s No. 1 entertainment program of the night with Total People and all key demos. It registered a National Total TV Reach of 2.523 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.353 million - up 7.3% year-on-year and the highest rating launch episode since 2022. On 9Now, it recorded its largest BVOD launch audience ever of 262,000 - up 30.0% year-on-year.

  • 9News won its timeslot with Total People in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The combined national bulletins registered a National Total TV Reach of 2.105 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.236 million (up 6% on the same night last year). On 9Now, its BVOD Audience of 100,000 was up 35.8% year-on-year.

  • A Current Affair won the 7.00pm timeslot across Australia with all key demos and Total People. It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 1.735 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.032 million. On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD Audience of 96,000 - up 31.4% on the same night last year.

  • Tipping Point Australia was the No. 1 afternoon game show with across Australia and in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 1.395 million and a Total TV National Audience of 715,000, lifting the timeslot by 7.6% when compared to the same day last year.

  • Trump’s Triumph: Week 1 achieved a National Total TV Reach of 1.686 million, a Total TV National Audience of 581,000 and a BVOD Audience of 79,000.

Last night, Sigrid Thornton had a VIPassss to one of I’m A Celebrity’s most feared trials, The Viper Room. Sigrid spent 33 minutes in the Viper Room, breaking the record for the longest time spent in The Viper Room.

Seems audiences can’t leaf this season alone! I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has branched out to record-breaking territory as viewers flock to cast their votes. This year, trial votes on 10 Play have climbed like wild vines - up a remarkable 57% compared to last season.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!:

  • Reached 1.13 million Australians.
  • Biggest season since 2022.
  • Season to-date: Total audience (942,000) up 11% on 2024 average.

That is a excellent result for 10’s 5pm news last night, considering increase competition in the slot with Tipping Point returning.

This also seems to be doing okay, the last figure I believe we saw for Lunchtime was back in October with a figure of 45k. Did Afternoons rate higher than lunchtime by any chance @TV.Cynic?

Doubt you’ll see 10 publicity crowing about any of these news results however.

Was going to comment on this. 103k for the lunchtime bulletin seems much higher than the last reported figure late last year.

These are fantastic numbers in all cities.

10 News is definitely experiencing some momentum.

My theory, the introduction of the Lunchtime, Afternoon and Late News bulletins is clearly helping promote the brand, along with implementing local editions in all cities.
