Nine posted a 10-point win over second-placed Seven with its best Monday share in five weeks as Seven’s share dropped by +1 point. Third-placed 10 scored it highest Monday share of the year as ABC was down one from last week and SBS steady. Nine also won the key demos with 10 was again second (main channel and network).

Key to Nine’s success included Married At First Sight holding onto most of its Sunday audience and posting a Monday-high rating for this season. Earlier A Current affair was over 700,000 for the first time this year with its best result since last October while Big Miracles later was up to a season high and the first time over 400,000.

Seven again benefitted from having the top news service while Home and Away did well to almost reach 500,000. The first live show of Australian Idol averaged 422,000 on par with its usual Monday result and down 30k from Sunday. Idol ranked 12th in 25-54 (below Big Miracles and Would I Lie to You?)

Over on 10, Survivor’s merge episode was also on par with its average form Monday and down 9k from Sunday. Would I Lie to You? that followed was down 15k on the previous week.

For ABC, Four Corners hit a season low while the return of Australian Story was on part with Back Roads recent results in the timeslot. Q+A was also on par with it recent Monday numbers.

At breakfast Today had a win over Sunrise by 3k.

The Last of Us continues to be a hit for Foxtel.

Australia’s win in the Women’s T20 World Cup made the top 5 in pay TV ratings, even though it was shown in the middle of the night here, due to time difference.

Leigh Sales’ first episode as the host of Australian Story was just 10,000 off Survivor while Four Corners (featuring a story on eating disorders) posted one of its lowest audiences so far this season.

Another dominant performance from MAFS and the number one show in Sydney and Melbourne.

Last night they said it was the half-way mark of the experiment, which would indicate it will finish on March 29th.

Then there would be the finale on the next Sunday night, the Reunion on the Monday (already recorded) then another Renuion (yet to be filled).

So the question for Nine is how to keep this going because the audience is trained to sit down at 7.30pm every night.

I would suggest there has to be another episode after Easter, which will be the drama around the fallout of the Renuion after the Renuion lol

Nine won the three east coast markets but Seven was ahead in Adelaide and Perth. Nine had an easy win in the key demos with 10 second, well ahead of Seven.

Maybe people can stop banging on about how great “live” shows are when they make absolute no difference in attracting viewers.

The Last of Us looks like it’s benefiting from word of mouth and people catching up on past episodes. Overnight ratings much higher now than at the start of the season.

Is Idol actually “live” or is it recorded earlier in the day?

The Top 12 performance, all of the host interactions and Meghan’s performance was pre recorded.

I know a lot has been made of Idol being 4th in its timeslot most nights, but there really isn’t much between ABC, Survivor and Idol.
It’s MAFS then daylight to the rest.
I’d hang in there. Moving it to another quarter next year may see an improvement.

I strongly disagree as Idol has recieved a huge amount of cross promotion from high rating programs like Sunrise and also on the number one FM Kyle and Jackie O radio show.

By comparison, Survivor has had buggar all promotion except a mention on Studio 10 which nobody watches.

It is very relevant because Survivor has greatly exceeded expectations whereas Idol has massively under performed.

In the main demos which is what advertisers focus on, Idol is way behind the other 2. Also given how much has likely been spent on marketing Idol + the judges salaries 7 would want it to be doing way better than it is.

In addition, Idol gets beaten in the live viewing, the 7-day catch up viewing and the 7day BVOD viewing as well so ends up further behind.

Seven internally must be admitting to themselves it’s more or less, if not a flop, a mile off a hit, considering it’s consistently also behind 10’s Survivor in nearly all metrics, not to mention Seven’s network and/or main channel coming third on Sundays and they’re just a couple of headlines among a sea of ratings-only issues they face.

Three reality shows airing at the same time - one has to suffer. MAFS is the runaway winner. Although i would have liked to see the first results show of Idol do better, i think its safe to say that numbers wont really grow much between now and possibly until the Grand Final - and even then, wont do much against MAFS.

In other news, Nine beat Seven from 6am until midday. Today beat Sunrise (by a small margin), Today Early beat Sunrise Early, Today Extra beat The Morning Show and Nine’s Morning News beat Seven’s Morning News.

Great work Today show! East Coast is strong for them. If they get more viewers watching in Adelaide and Perth they could comfortably win more days
