Mock Schedules

As much as I like that schedule…
I can’t see 10 going for the cricket again in future. Celebrity is clearly doing well for them and will stay in the summer slots as long as it is still delivering.

The Circle would be great. I thought for sure an Australian version would have been made by now, with the pandemic it would surely be an easy show to make. The networks usually don’t put much effort in towards November, so that could work in its favour.

Making It will be interesting, I’m not overly confident it will bring the viewers in. The time of year and personalities will be very important for this I feel. Against The Block, I’m not so sure.

I agree I doubt 10 would go for the cricket again but I think they did a great job of it before and I do think they could make it work on their network.

The schedule is awesome, but why a repeat of The Project? Not worth the slot.

Ten had been repeating The Project for a while now - sometimes as early as 10.30pm. But it usually airs around the 11.30pm mark. If i was 10, id have The Late Show air before the repeat of The Project.

Dumb programming. It’s still prime time and I don’t understand why a repeat is needed. They could have it at 12-1am

I totally agree. Its a dumb decision that i dont get

It’s cheap?

I agree it’d double Seinfeld or put The Simpsons there, but it’s 10.

They are wasting their prime time slot. If they want to become the number one network (ever) they need to have a good schedule (with no repeats in prime time) to achieve it. Their network seems to only care about The Project if that’s the case.

End of rant.

In the wake of Andrew O’Keefe leaving The Chase and a new host joining the program soon, here’s a minor schedule revamp I’d implement:

Weekdays

5:00am Seven Early News
5:30am Sunrise
9:15am The Morning Show
12:00pm Seven Midday News
1:00pm Movie
3:00pm Classic Dramas (Packed to the Rafters, All Saints, Blue Heelers etc.)
4:00pm The Chase UK
5:00pm Seven News at 5 (national bulletin)
5:30pm The Chase Australia (revamped fast-paced, exciting format including only two contestants, more chances to win cash, contestants penalised for incorrect answers)
6:00pm Seven News

Seems like a great idea but it would be cheaper to produce a 1 hour version of the chase than a 30 minute news and 30 minute quiz show.

I reckon Seven should realise that viewer fatigue has set in, and in 2022, it’s time to have their tentpole reality formats ONLY airing on Sunday evenings.

Time for Seven to be innovative and have a real point of difference to Nine and Ten, that is no stripped reality.

Here’s how I’d programme them in 2022. Thoughts?

Sunday - Tentpole Reality Night

5:00pm Seven News at 5
5:30pm Local Travel Shows
6:00pm Seven News
7:00pm Tentpole Reality Formats (Australian Idol, Big Brother and SAS Australia)
8:30pm Crime Investigation Australia (hosted by Matt Doran)

Monday - Game Show Night

5:00pm The Chase Australia (hosted by Sam Mac)
6:00pm Seven News
7:00pm Home and Away
7:30pm The Weakest Link (hosted by Gretel Killeen)
8:30pm Wheel of Fortune (hosted by Grant Denyer)
9:00pm Seven Late News

Tuesday - Live Entertainment Night

5:00pm The Chase Australia (hosted by Sam Mac)
6:00pm Seven News
7:00pm Home and Away
7:30pm Tuesday Night Live (hosted by Daryl Somers and Ricki Lee-Coulter)
8:30pm Adults Only (hosted by Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O)
9:00pm Seven Late News

Wednesday - Lighter Reality Night

5:00pm The Chase Australia (hosted by Sam Mac)

I love your idea. I just think there is a real lack of Australian drama.

Your idea is too hard for Seven. Getting people like Kyle and Jackie O would probably cost Seven big time, also why on earth is Sam Mac hosting The Chase? Viewers will switch off with his cringe jokes…

IMO it would be a good promotion for Sam Mac to get to experience in prime time.

Who do you suggest as host for The Chase? Genuinely keen to hear some names.

Yeah, that probably would be too costly for Seven. Basically anyone who can deliver inappropriate humour in a funny way would fit the job description for an Adults Only show.

I like the general idea. My thoughts

  1. 9pm is way too early for “late” news. Maybe if you continued original programming afterwards from overseas at 9.30pm (for example, for the drama night you schedule a 1.5 hour aussie drama, and then at 9.30 play the good doctor etc)

  2. Otherwise, move the “late” news to 10 or 10.30, and schedule some aussie content straight after h+a, followed by international content (same as point 1, but the news is pushed behind the main content block, instead of being in the middle).

  3. Tentpole reality shows generally run 3-4x a week, for example you could run big brother after the “late” news as original programming during the week as an adults only daily show (if they went back to the og format, which they won’t but I hope they do). Not sure how well these sorts of shows (even holey moley) work as a once per week kinda deal.

Pretty sure the name of Larry Emdur has been mentioned too many times on here along with Gretel Killeen and Julia Zemiro. Sam Mac just wouldn’t cut it.

As for your idea, it has a lot of potential but I think you could perhaps have the reality tentpoles stretch across two nights (Sunday and Monday for example), and then having light entertainment on Tuesday, Drama on Wednesday, Factual on Thursday and Lifestyle on Friday would work way better.

Has Andrew Okeefe definitely been fired? I thought 7 denied that.

AOK and 7 have parted ways.
