Mock Schedules

I was here to raise just that point really about scheduling nightly rather than weekly - interesting most the mock schedules here stick to stripped reality. Seven especially at the moment now have a stable of shows which would be best airing once or two a week, rather than stripped for a few weeks. Big Brother is probably the exception, but then as they don’t do that properly it could probably be stripped back to just twice a week too.

ATM though they could have something like:
Sun: Holey Moley
Mon/Tue: The Voice
Wed: Ultimate Tag

Then run a block of Big Brother mid-year, and then later in the year have Australian Idol, SAS Australia, Farmer Wants a Wife and something else airing in some combination from Sun-Wed.

You make some good points about flexible scheduling. Here are my thoughts

Example “Tentpole” TV: Big Brother, Farmer Wants a Wife, Dancing with the Stars etc. Like most of the shows listed below, should be looking at 4 blocks of 10-13 weeks each. If a show can’t fill 4 days a week (Sunday to Wednesday), then can be split 2/2 or 1/3. Would like to see late news actually late, and the introduction of a local talk show running sunday to thursday.

Sunday - Animation Night
3pm: AFL
6pm: Local News
7pm: “Tentpole” TV
8.30pm: Adult Animation (ie Simpsons)
9pm: Adult Animation (ie Family Guy)
9.30pm: Adult Animation (ie American Dad)
10pm: Late News
11pm: Local Late show?

Monday - Game Show Night
4pm: Local News
4.30pm: The Chase
5.30pm: Home + Away (on 7two at 7pm, not sure if this should go at 4.30pm or 5.30pm on the main 7)
6pm: Local News
7pm: “Tentpole” TV
8pm: Australian Gameshow (rotate 4 per year?)
9pm: US or UK Gameshow (again, rotate 4 per year?)
10pm: Late News
11pm: Local Late show?

Tuesday - Drama Night
6pm: Local News
7pm: “Tentpole” TV
8pm: Australian Drama
9pm: US or UK Drama
10pm: Late News
11pm: Local Late show?

Wednesday - Comedy Night
6pm: Local News
7pm: “Tentpole” TV
8pm: Australian Comedy (1x60min or 2x30min)
9pm: US or UK Comedy (1x60min or 2x30min)
10pm: Late News
11pm: Local Late show?

Thursday - Live/Reality Night
6pm: Local News
7pm: Local Talk Show (like Rove), or AFL
8.30pm or 9pm: Australian Reality Show (MTV style) or Panel Show (think 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown)
10pm: Late News
11pm: Local Late show?

Friday - Lifestyle Night
6pm: Local News
7pm: BH+G, or AFL
8.30pm: New Travel Show
9.30pm: Late News
10pm: Late Movie

Saturday - Movie Night
6pm: Local News
7pm: Kids Movie or AFL
9.30pm: Late News (or AFL)
10pm: Late Movie (can be pushed back for AFL, AFL will have Footy Central instead of the Late News)

I don’t think this would work with 7’s Sunday audience.

I like this idea. Get in early. However, I do not like the idea of removing Home and Away from the schedule. The fact is this show is still successful for 7. And moving it creates a huge risk. Do you risk a consistent and known performer like Home and Away for shows that might or might not rate at different times of the year. For example if they did what you suggest a show like Holey Moley could be rating less than what Home and Away has for 7 in the same slot. Is that really worth that risk. There aren’t a lot of 7 tentpole shows that have rated too much higher than Home and Away either.

I think there is a huge danger in having an expensive live show rotating with AFL that might be on Thursdays. It creates issues with Sydney/Brisbane as well.

@turdall thanks for the feedback.

Well it’s effectively replacing Sunday Night which had no audience. I think it would be fairly popular, it’s not something seen on Aussie TV at the moment. Tonight Ch7 are showing a marvel movie, that’s what Ch7 is doing now on sunday nights. Sometimes you have to create an audience, which leads into my next point

I think you do need to take this risk, hence why I suggested playing H+A at 5.30pm, with an encore on 7two at 7pm. It’s a great show, and I think it would work well as a lead in. Let’s be honest, the majority who will watch it, will be watching Ch7 from 5pm if not earlier in the day. So they wouldn’t miss it.

Get the night going early, get ahead of Ch9 with that extra half an hour and lead from your tentpole (which should be rating 1m each night) into your themed nights.

AFL on 7 on Thursday nights would be 8 games max per year, probably closer to 5. Can have the AFL on 7mate in Syd/Bris/Per, and the “Rove” talk show on 7mate in Melb/Adel for those weeks. I know it’s not the best outcome, it wouldn’t work if the AFL scheduled 23 weeks plus week 1 of the finals for the thursday night, but at this stage they don’t.

The biggest issue would be a dip on those nights in Melbourne, but the network as a whole would be picked up by the AFL so advertisers would still win out.

Channel Seven, Reality Schedule 2022

Quarter 1
Sunday: My Kitchen Rules (back-to-basics)
Monday-Tuesday: Australian Idol
Wednesday: TBA (U.S. or U.K. import)
Thursday: 3x Home and Away

Quarter 2
Sunday: Holey Moley
Monday-Tuesday: Big Brother
Wednesday: SAS Australia
Thursday: 1x Home and Away, Border Security or AFL

Quarter 3
Sunday: Farmer Wants a Wife
Monday-Tuesday: The Voice
Wednesday: Dancing with the Stars
Thursday: 1x Home and Away, Border Security or AFL

Quarter 4
Sunday-Monday: Australia’s Got Talent
Tuesday: Wife Swap
Wednesday: First Dates
Thursday: 3x Home and Away

The schedule above focuses on eliminating viewer fatigue by only having programs air two nights a week maximum.

Seven 2022 (at 7.30)

Q1:
Sunday - Holey Moley
Monday-Wednesday - Big Brother
Thursday - Highway Patrol

Q2:
Sunday - Dancing with the Stars
Monday-Wednesday - Farmer wants a Wife
Thursday - Border Security

Q3:
Sunday-Monday - The Voice
Tuesday-Wednesday - SAS Australia
Thursday - Harry’s Practice

Q4:
Sunday-Monday - Australia’s Got Talent
Tuesday - Wednesday - Ultimate Tag
Thursday - Homicide with Ron Iddles

Simple as that and it would work very well in Seven’s favour. Would work even better if they have their shows at 60 minutes max.

That seems to be the best balanced scheduled.

An idea for a new schedule for Seven. Given the success of Under Investigation for Nine last night, I believe there is demand for investigation programs at 9pm, and that’s exactly what True Crime Australia will do, hosted by Matt Doran, the show would explore a different unsolved case each episode.

I have also added in a new current affairs program 7pm weeknights, and Home and Away moves to a 9:30pm Sunday and 10pm Monday to Thursday timeslot. I didn’t move Home and Away to 7TWO because then it wouldn’t be shown in HD.

Most importantly, reality shows won’t be stretched out across the week and will only air on the appropriate amount of days as required. For example, at any given time you could see something like this: Holey Moley (Sunday), Big Brother (Monday to Wednesday), Wife Swap Australia (Thursday).

Finally, I axed The Latest: Seven News in favour of a normal news bulletin, like Seven Early News or Seven Morning News.

Sundays
6pm Seven News
7pm Reality
8:30pm True Crime Australia
9:30pm Home and Away
10:00pm Seven Late News

Mondays-Thursdays
6pm Seven News
7pm New Current Affairs Program (local editions for each market; name TBA)
7:30pm Reality
9pm True Crime Australia
10pm Home and Away
10:30pm Seven Late News

Fridays
6pm Seven News
7pm New Current Affairs Program (local editions for each market; name TBA)
7:30pm Better Homes and Gardens
9pm Friday Night Movie

Saturdays
6pm Seven News
7pm New Current Affairs Program (national Saturday edition)
7:30pm Family Friendly Movie
9:30pm Saturday Night Movie

I don’t think flogging true crime just because it worked on one network is the right idea. 7 need to come up with some original content. Get back to what families loved on 7 - drama.

All blocks consist of 8 weeks each except for Block Four which is 6 weeks.

Edited: I have removed House Rules and added in Hunted Australia. Based off the UK version. After watching Ultimate Tag I realised this is what 7 really needed to commission.

Nice idea, but TheVoice/DWTS/AU Idol and AGT are super similar to air after each other during the year. You need to be put other shows such as BB, FWAW, Holey Moley etc

I kind of did that purposely because I want event television on the same nights to capture the same audience all year round. I wouldn’t be renewing Holey Moley.
