Mock Schedules

So for the weekends, is the National Eyewitness News going to include regions in SA and WA?

I think Pointless should air at 4pm and Alive and Cooking at 1:30pm followed by The Price is Right at 2pm til 3pm

And Home shopping should be limited to 2 hours per night

Not with Ten affiliation. Need the money to fund ongoing news investment. If it wasnā€™t for that Iā€™d have only 30 minutes per night.

Cooking program in the vicinity of 4pm works alright but 60 minutes in a row is too much in the afternoon. Looks weak.

Jeopardy is more stronger than Pointless. In another more radical version I had Jeopardy at 5pm.

I also think 3.5 hours of Studio 10 per day is too much. I wonder if the strain is part of the reason for ongoing turnover of hosts.

If you are talking about home shopping here, well you could air 30 minutes each morning at 10:00am weekdays and 30 minutes from 11:30am on weekends on 11, also retaining to 30 minute 5:30am slot each day on 11. You could also insert 1 hour at 11am weekdays on One to make up the shortfall.

Alternatively to my suggestion could be to leave Judge Judy at 3pm, Alive and Cooking at 3:30pm and Pointless at 4pm. To me airing a 2 hour bloc of game shows also makes the schedule look weak and desperate.

Being a Ten product and the hostilities with the new owners, not much can be done there without an early exit or late start and hoping to be no production flaws to what is and isnt shown.

Other than the two hour game show bloc I have no problem with Day TV. However, I have to question why air a 20 year old animated sitcom on your main channel or a sketch comedy show around the same vintage? I am sure with Bruce Gordonā€™s links he could air something more recent that may fill a late night void such as Superstore or Baby Daddy or any other program that no other Australian FTA network has - if you have your heart intent on 20 year old comedy perhaps try Classic Australian comedy may also work - Colā€™n Carpenter, Comedy Company, Full Frontal would probably rate equally as well. I would retain The Project encore for the main channel, perhaps screening after The Late Show

No Home Shopping during the day. Thatā€™s not going to fly with me. If you saw earlier mocks from last year Iā€™d scheduled The Price Is Right with Drew Carey and Jeopardy in the early morning slot. With access to Headline News, this is a movement to continue providing WIN viewers with premium content where Ten is failing.

Pointless needs to prove itself worthy of a better slot to bump something off and I am yet to see that. Ten hasnā€™t had this issue for a decade.

Only reason Everyday Gourmet is scheduled there is because there is no late morning slot available and I had 30 minutes to fill but I wouldnā€™t cut Studio 10 for it unless Ten makes it shorter and starts airing more filler again that could be improved for viewers. Otherwise Iā€™d cut it and make 4pm a rolling cooking slot with new content across the year.

Really? I think its quite clever. The demographic that is at home watching television that time of the day is the type of person that seems to like game shows. I think 2 hours is a good flow rather than having a break and potentially losing that audience.

Whether viewers like it or not, all the secondary channels (except maybe the specialised channels like news etc) will air home shopping during the day. If you can minimise it, it will be better for the audience - WIN may be able to charge a premium price for mid to late morning in slots where other secondary FTA channels donā€™t screen it. Although its not ideal, I think less infomercials on the main FTA channel would open up more slots to air ā€œpremiumā€ news content.

As for the other cooking show, with the 2 and a half hour morning news program (re Australian content rules), perhaps ET could be a better fit at 1pm with a cooking show perhaps screening at 10:30am on Eleven (after my proposed time for home shopping)or at 11:30am If you want to retain comedy in the morning, maybe an 11 schedule could look like this

10:00am Infomercial
10:30am Everybody Loves Raymond
11:00am Bold and The Beautiful (encore)
11:30am Everyday Gourmet
12:00pm WIN All Australian News (or Judging Amy would be another option)
1:00pm Days Of Our Lives
2:00pm Young And The Restless
3:00pm Neighbours (encore)
3:30pm As schedules by 11 metro markets

Not so sure about that - if you look at what Seven does an hour, an hour break another hour of game shows - maybe a single 30 minute game show by itself might not work, but with the proposed programs, it could work in 2 separate 1 hour slots - i guess if the two hour bloc doesnt work, they can test the waters in separating them with say Judge Judy and a cooking show

How would you address a 45 minute news if Ten did opt to screen an Australian version of Inside Edition with Lisa Wilkinson (or produce a program called Ten Daily with Lisa Wilkinson) instead of the first half of The Project?

There is no evidencr to suggest arr planning this though so why plan a schedule around something that might not occur.

Why screen something for 45 minutes? why not do a full hour?

But yet there is no evidence to support this conclusion either

I think @turdall you like arguing for the sake of arguing

Why do i need any evidence if its clearly an opinion. I said I think. I didnā€™t post it as a fact.

Havenā€™t heard that as a possibility before. Where did you hear this from?

Because IMO it would be very difficult to keep the standard at the top level to add what would be 15-20 minutes of national news items in the 45 minute bulletin into becoming 30-35 minutes in a 60 minute bulletin which would be an unnecessary strain on WINā€™s resources which are difficult to maintain as they are.

The few national news stories would be to add value to the bulletin and make the bulletin more appealing but they need to be relevant to regions. You do not want continuous stories airing simply filling time which arenā€™t relevant to viewers or add value which would absolutely happen having to fill 60 minutes. Plus I would anticipate local content would end up watered down with 60 minutes then youā€™ll end up with more job losses.

I maintain news needs to be compact and relevant. That is the best way to retain viewers with lower attention spans than in the past.

The alternative, in my mind, would be Jeopardy at 5pm, National Eyewitness News at 5.30, WIN News at 6.30 then The Project compacted at 7pm. Thatā€™s the more radical early evening schedule.

My idea for Ten for next year. Includes a new current affair program for 10pm each night and ten late news at 10:30.

Actually your idea is a really good one - The one question I have is would the 10:30pm bulletin be the same one as on One earlier in the evening or would it involve a updated news bulletin?

I actually have some proposed programming that could be first run late at night on Ten and as an encore on One the next morning. I know at this point CBS are unlikely to invest money towards these program suggestions, but this could help boost show Ten are serious about news, sport and current affairs

Sunday
11:30pm News Week - News in review

Monday
11:30pm Face The Nation Australia - Interview series

Tuesday
11:30pm Business Week - Business program

Wednesday
11:30pm State Analysis - State based current affairs program

Thursday
11:30pm The Political State - Panel based political analysis

Friday
11:30pm Sidelines - sports analysis similar format to The Project and Offsiders on ABC

Saturday
11:30pm Meet The Press - political interview

I would also change the mornings on One like this
One
5:00am Infomercials
7:00am (Sun) Fishing Australia; (Mon-Sat) Pointless
7:30 (Sun) Meet The Press; (Mon) News Week; (Tues) Face The Nation Australia; (Wed) Business Week; (Thurs) State Analysis; (Fri) The Political State; (Sat) Sidelines
8:00am As scheduled

If the 1pm to 4:30pm schedule was to change on WIN, would the reality TV encores as shown on Ten atm be moved to One to screen from say 2pm til 3pm (or 3:30pm), with program fillers such as Alive and Cooking and Studio 10 as required? or would WIN simply opt out of those next day encores?

Absolutely not if I had anything to do with it. I consider the encores like dead air. If you want to watch it, they have a primetime time slot. Point is Ten donā€™t have the content and will to properly program but WIN absolutely can if they are pushed.

Encores are for multi-channels, and if we decide to encore, only for a few weeks, not the whole bloody season!

Perhaps encore reality TV at 6pm (or 6:30pm) on One as a lead in to the next instalment of the reality program?

If WIN and Bruce Gordon really wanted to ruffle Tenā€™e feathers by axing Studio 10 or maybe moving it to One, here is a possible morning schedule that may do it

Monday to Friday
6:00am Headline News
8:30am WIN All Australian News
9:30am Entertainment Tonight
10:00am The Ita Buttrose Show
11:00am The Talk

Saturday
6:00am Sports First
10:00am Alive And Cooking
10:30am Fishing Australia
11:00am RPM

Sunday
6:00am Sports First
8:00am Speers On Sunday
9:00am Outsiders
10:00am Alive And Cooking
10:30am Everyday Gourmet
11:00am Passionate Players

Another alternative may be if @Auroraā€™s afternoon schedule of game shows were to be adopted, perhaps a reality encore may take the place of my proposed Ita Buttrose Show (and occasionally ET) from 9:30am/10:00am weekdays
