Long time reader / lurker. First time poster.
Foreshadowing what looks like The Project be cancelled this year:
10 News should remain at 5, and local as a 30 minute edition. It should retain the ‘First’ moniker, even potentially reviving ‘First at Five’
From here, I do think 10 has an opportunity to replicate the success of the other networks and bring in a new game show to the 5:30 slot, followed by a hyperlocal second edition of Ten News. A potential format idea being a revival of Millionaire with Kitty Flanagan or Tim Minchin as hosts.
At 6:30, I’d like to see the revival of a Today Tonight style format. A potential name even being ‘Tonight with Denham Hitchcock’. 4 days, as currently predicted.
7pm would see the return of reality programs, moving to US style on the hour programing.
10 Late News would be at the fixed time of 10:00.
6:30 on Fridays would see the introduction of a new format, licensing the the name Crime Time with Liz Hayes, for 30 minutes.
I’d like to see Liz Hayes also utilised on a revival of Meet the Press, Sunday mornings with Hugh Riminton as co-anchor. Really beef up the news credentials.
On weekends should 10 wish, the could retain the national news format - even though I’m against the idea personally. However now with 2 hosts, one for a First at Five edition - potentially Chris Bath could retain, and another for 6:00 bulletin - perhaps Hugh Rimminton permanently.
5:30 Saturday could see the return of Funniest Home Videos with Sammy J as host.
It’s time for 10 to show they are a serious contender for sports rights also.
6:30 Saturday would see the return of Before the Game.
5:30 Sundays could see a weekly sports variety wrap, potentially with a sponsor tie in ala Toyota Sports Tonight days. Snare a big name in sports who has retired. Someone completely left field like Ash Barty or Cody Simpson. Could bring in huge eyeballs and sponsors.
6:30 Sunday sees the establishment of a new format titled ‘The Week that Wasn’t’. Simple premise. Pisstake of the week that was similar to what Charlie Pickering does with his wrap on The Weekly. Straight down the barrel. Potential hosts include Carrie Bickmore, Kitty Flanagan, Mel Tracina.
Sarah Harris moves to a new morning show format. If 10 can snare Joe Hilderbrand again, the 2 would make an excellent pairing.
I know it’s a lot and a long shot but would really position 10 well for fresh take for the decade ahead as their core audience from yesteryear matures and the younger generation become consumers of the future.
