I like the idea of late evening state news - would be a good point of difference. 2130 as ‘late but not too late’ seems like a good time.

I like it… but I would throw a Game Show into the 5.30pm timeslot.

Looking at the shit 10 are serving up for the next few weeks before Celebrity kicks off again, I decided to put together a schedule until Christmas (excl X-mas day and Saturdays) using whatever they had still left on the shelves, taking a few series from P+ and took the liberty of inserting an A-Leauge magazine show in there which probably will need to be moved to later in the evening.

10 2022

I strongly believe that after this year’s very poor ratings, both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette should be rested for the year. They are both very tired brands IMO. There should be two factors that need to be considered for a return in 2023, and ONLY ONE show should be returned:

  1. Look for contestants during the year, and create a mock cast of Bachelor+Bachelorettes and Bachelorette+Bachelors, and decide which will provide the best possible show.
  2. Most importantly, if it’s clear people miss it.
Before Big Brother, Australian Survivor, Offspring, The Amazing Race Australia and even when Karl Stefanovic returned, people were vocal in them returning. They wanted them back on their screens, and when they returned they regained their loyal fan base somewhat quickly, which slowed them to build on that and be successful. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and IMO that applies to television. Now sometimes a network returns a show completely out of the blue and it is successful (Farmer Wants A Wife) I will admit. However Ten should not rest the show for a year just for the sake of it and then return, as it does work in all cases, like with The Biggest Loser in 2017. No one really missed the format, so it was not successful. I believe the same thing will happen with MKR on Seven next year.

To replace The Bachelor and The Bachelorette next year, I have come up with this mock guide for 7.30pm.

Monday 3 January-Thursday 27 January (4 Weeks): I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here

Sunday 30 January-Thursday 3 February (1 Week): I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here (S), Australian Survivor (M-W), Ambulance Australia (Th)

Sunday 6 February-Thursday 24 March (7 Weeks): Australian Survivor (S-Tu), The First Inventors (W), Ambulance Australia (Th)

Sunday 27 March-Thursday 14 April (3 Weeks): Come Dine With Me Australia (S-W), Ambulance Australia (Th)

Sunday 17 April-Thursday 21 April (1 Week): Easter Sunday (Filler Programming), MasterChef (M-Th)

Sunday 24 April-Thursday 7 July (11 Weeks): MasterChef

Sunday 10 July-Thursday 14 July (1 Week): MasterChef (S-Tu), State Of Origin (Filler Programming-W), Fillers (Th)

Sunday 17 July-Thursday 25 August (6 Weeks): Australian Survivor (S-Tu), Hunted Australia (W-Th)

Sunday 28 August-Thursday 8 September (2 Weeks): Australian Survivor (S-Tu), The Amazing Race Australia (W-Th)

Sunday 11 September-Thursday 6 October (4 Weeks): The Masked Singer (S-Tu), The Amazing Race Australia (W-Th)

Sunday 9 October-Thursday 24 November (7 Weeks): Celebrity MasterChef (S-M), The Dog House Australia (Tu), Shark Tank (W-Th)

There’s only three formats that Ten haven’t announced in there.
I slotted The First Inventors for Wednesday 7.30 during Q1. This is a hard slot for Ten, since it will be up against the MAFS dinner parties. We saw this for Ten with The Cube. But this will offer an alternative to the shiny floor shows on Seven and Nine, and may give it a chance to do OK in the older demos.
A lot of people have called for Come Dine With Me, so I slotted that in before MasterChef. I think that is right time of year for it, and keeps the seat warm for the big event that is MasterChef.
I returned Celebrity MasterChef, as it held up OK in Q4 this year.
I also slotted Shark Tank in Q4. I was always a big fan of the show and believe it was cancelled too soon. The show was not strong enough for 7.30 however, so I slotted in for Wednesday and Thursday to give it the best possible chance, particularly since it will have the Gogglebox lead out on Thursday’s.

Believe it or not, I do my own TV guides, and have done for years (I’m almost 21). I am a big admirer of TV programming. Any praise or criticism is welcome. Thanks!

I have come up with an idea that Ten could run with to fill between 2pm and 4:30pm weekdays without disturbing too much. Weekdays would be The Afternoon Kitchen and on weekends The Weekend Kitchen. These are program suggestions for such a concept and could add titles as new programs are produced. I was thinking, Ready Steady Cook could even do celebrity editions for the weekend (they could even try it as a first run prime time filler in the non ratings period)

Monday to Friday
The Afternoon Kitchen:
2:00pm Ready Steady Cook
3:00pm Good Chef Bad Chef
3:30pm Everyday Gourmet
4:00pm Farm To Fork

Saturday
2:00pm My Market Kitchen
2:30pm Taste Of Australia
3:00pm Destination Dessert
3:30pm Everyday Gourmet
4:00pm Freshly Picked

Sunday
2:00pm Lucas Key Ingredients
2:30pm Three Veg and Meat
3:00pm Good Chef Bad Chef
3:30pm Jamies Kitchen

One thing 10 could do in the morning:
6am: 10 Breakfast
9am: Studio 10
11:30am: Ten Morning News

or
6am: 10 Breakfast
8:30am: Ten News AM (Pretty much the same as Ten News Morning, just earlier)
9am: Studio 10

Ten News AM could air for 15 minutes - before a filler show

A few ideas to change things up on Seven:

  • move The Chase UK to 2pm
  • introduce a U.S. talk show at 3pm, now that there’s an opening in the market with Ellen no longer airing on Nine. Perhaps Kelly Clarkson, who will be taking over Ellen‘s slot in the States.
  • scrap the local 4pm bulletins and introduce a new national 4pm program with Michael Usher called ‘Behind the Headlines’, where the program digs deep to explain how the news matters to you. Features interview with politicians and newsmakers.
  • invest in a live entertainment show for Monday and Wednesday nights at 9pm, to compete with Nine and Ten who have established programs like HYBPA and Under Investigation in those timeslots. Would run for 90 minutes, featuring live music, entertainment news and celebrity interviews, plus a studio audience.
