Mock news presenting/reporting teams

If Seven went into extreme cost-cutting mode and had to swing the axe on presenters left, right & centre.

Yeah, I highly doubt it would ever come to fruition (at least I hope not)

I could see Blake and Georgie having good chemistry, but I doubt it would ever happen, especially on Seven of all places.

If they want to appeal to a more youthful audience then here is their answer

I have factored in some hypotheticals, including Susannah Carr retiring, so I’ve had Natalie Barr move back home to the west and co-anchor alongside Rick. Therefore, I’ve made Eddy the permanent newsreader on Sunrise, and Monique will come in on a Monday to co-host with Kochie, and Matt will come in on a Friday to co-host with Sam.

I’ve appointed Ann Sanders Friday/Saturday newsreader of Sydney’s 6pm news so Michael Usher can focus on The Latest and some 7NEWS Spotlight reports full-time. Ann will still present the 11:30am & Sydney 4pm news on a Wednesday and Thursday, making her work roster Wednesday to Saturday.

I’ve also reduced David Brown’s role to Friday & Saturday only, and have given Angie Asimus the promotion to Sunday to Thursday weather. No offence to Brownie, but I personally find him a bit over the top some times when presenting the weather and all the hand movements a bit much. I’d prefer someone like Angie in the main job. One of the reasons I made this swap is so that Mark Beretta can replace Mel McLaughlin on Sun-Thu sport in Sydney. Mel then moves to Sunrise, replacing Beretts.

On another note, with the news today that Simon Reeve has been made redundant, I’ve put Matt Shirvington on Weekend Sunrise sport.

Because of Ann only doing the 11:30am & 4pm news on a Wednesday and Thursday, I have Sally Bowrey picking up Tuesdays, in addition to Fridays which she already does, but wait for it…I’ve put Robert Ovadia on Mondays. Personally I don’t mind seeing him fill-in every now and again, but that’s just me. I’d also be keen to hear @SydneyCityTV’s thoughts on who would win the battle on the Monday morning news & Sydney afternoon news between Robert Ovadia on Seven and Mark Burrows on Nine!!

Mark Soderstrom and Bruce Abernethy axed?

Otherwise a pretty good line-up.

The chemistry between Jane and Mark is just not there. And with Bruce and Rosanna, well, I just don’t think Bruce should be a sports presenter when there are better in the field.

While I ultimately respect your right to have a different opinion, personally I think it’d be a major step backwards if David Brown was demoted to Friday/Saturday night weather presenting because as things stand now, he’s basically the only good regular presenter in Sunday-Thursday Seven News Sydney bulletins.

I personally think they’re both shocking newsreaders although if I really had to decide which of the two is worse, I’d probably say Robert Ovadia because he’s also a terrible journalist IMO.

What is the sports presenting roster in Adelaide these days, is it Soderstrom Monday to Friday and Abernethy Saturday to Sunday?

If I recall correctly, did Bruce used to be the Monday-Friday sports presenter and Mark was the Saturday-Sunday sports presenter up until the end of last year, and then their roles switched this year? Was there also a time earlier in the year where Mark was presenting sport seven days a week and Bruce was nowhere to be seen?

If Seven were to go into severe cost-cutting mode:

Sunrise
Co hosts: Sam and Nat
News, sport, weather and entertainment: Eddy
Melbourne correspondent: Jacqui Felgate (replacing Nathan Templeton)
all other roles remain unchanged. Queensland reverts to only one correspondent (they currently have two)

The sports presenting role would be made redundant and Mark Beretta would leave the network altogether.

Eddy would present news, sport and weather all in one hit. Entertainment would still be presented separately. The consumer correspondent role currently held by Shaun White would also be made redundant.

Kochie would also be “retired” from the show and Sam Mac will also be made redundant.

Sunday Sunrise
Host: Sally Bowrey/Matt Doran (alternating)

The show would revert to a Sunday-only show and back to the Sunday Sunrise format as seen prior to April 2005. The show will run for one hour with news in the first block and sport and weather in the second block. The rest of the show would be interviews with politicians, news reporters on major stories, and other personalities etc.

On Saturdays, American news programming would air and repeats of old shows would air.

Monique Wright would also leave the network.

Elsewhere at Seven, the local afternoon news bulletins would revert back to a national bulletin and The Latest and The Morning Show will be axed with major presenters made redundant.

Would Sam be forced to return to a five day week? Or will Matt Doran step in on Mondays?

Would you be keeping Bianca Stone or Tamra Bow/Joel Dry?

So does this mean there will just be a single host, so one week Sally the next week Matt?

Would Perth still get a local afternoon bulletin due to the time difference? And would you be keeping Ann Sanders for Monday-Thursday daytime bulletins, or will she be made redundant?

Sam would return to a five-day week, but if she’d rather have Mondays off, then Matt would host.

Keeping Bianca Stone. Or if it is to be shared, then Stone on Mondays-Wednesdays and Bow/Dry (alternating weekly) on Thursdays and Fridays.

Yes, depending on Matt’s commitments with factuals, etc.

The Perth bulletin would remain local due to time difference. Samantha Jolly would present from Perth. Ann will still present the national bulletin, but I have reduced her roster to Mondays-Wednesdays, with Sally Bowrey on Thursdays-Fridays.

If Seven decide to axe the local 4pm bulletins in 2021 (except Perth because of the time difference) and have a national bulletin out of Sydney, the flow on-effect for each market would be:

SYDNEY
No changes as they produce the national 4pm bulletin.

MELBOURNE
Mike Amor and Tim Watson leave the network.
Blake Johnson appointed the Friday and Saturday newsreader.
Jacqui Felgate is promoted to main sports presenter and Sean Sowerby goes back to Friday and Saturday sport.
Jacqui Felgate would do the Afternoon news updates from Monday to Thursday, and Melina Sarris on a Friday.

BRISBANE
Katrina Blowers will leave the network and Kendall Gilding will become the weekend presenter.
Kendall will still do the Afternoon news updates from Monday to Wednesday, and Joel Dry or Tamra Bow would do them on Thursday and Friday.

ADELAIDE
No changes as they already lost their 4pm bulletin earlier in the year.

PERTH
No changes as they retain their local 4pm bulletin.

To share the workload around between the cities, Melbourne will take on responsibility for the 5pm news on weekends. Blake Johnson would present the bulletin, and sport would be presented by Sean Sowerby on a Saturday and Jacqui Felgate on a Sunday. Melbourne would also receive a new set to look similar to Sydney’s, to prevent viewers from turning away if they don’t like the current Melbourne set.

A mock based on people being fired from their jobs? A little crass, no?

Well, sort of, because unfortunately the sad reality is that jobs would be lost if the local 4pm bulletins were cut.
