That’s actually a good mix. I think Sophie has proved over the last few months that she deserves a permanent role within the Today team and this is a good way of accomodating her without shafting anyone else, particularly since Sport is all that Alex was ever actually meant to do. Although if it was me, I’d probably put Jayne on weekday news and Sophie on weekend news once Jayne returns from maternity leave.
Taking another crack at what my dream line up would be on Seven in 2022. Of course highly unlikely but one can wish!
Sarah Harris joins the network to cover Eddy’s maternity leave on Sunrise. Once Eddy returns, Sarah stays with the network to take over the 9:15am-11:30am slot alongside Matt de Groot from Nova FM. Larry and Kylie stay with the network and are given a new Sunday morning show to present.
Meanwhile, Melbourne radio broadcaster Tom Elliott would join the network to host Sunrise on Fridays and Weekend Sunrise on weekends, with the idea being he replaces Kochie when he retires. Tom has a finance background like Kochie, can be quite funny, and has IMO the ability to talk extensively about any subject. It would require Tom leaving 3AW and commuting from Melbourne to Sydney each weekend, though. Tom would also present the finance report for each 6pm bulletin on weekends (Gemma Acton does weekdays).
Matt Doran would stay with the network to become a Senior Reporter for Seven News Sydney and act as third in-line newsreader behind Michael Usher & Angela Cox.
Furthermore, I’ve changed my mind now to think that local news inserts in Sunrise would be handy for the Melbourne market. Nathan Templeton would present those from the Docklands Studios.
With the talk of Sunrise getting local news around the country and the uncompetitiveness of Today in Adelaide and Perth due to the 7 domination, I feel Today need to break away from the Sydney dominance of the show and try and focus on something more local in Adelaide & Perth. The main version of Today could be aired live on 9 from 5-7am and then from 7-9am it could be the local version.
For Adelaide, they could do something like this.
Co-Anchors: Rebecca Morse & Mike Lorigan (With SAFM breakfast rating pretty pore, don’t see it lasting too much longer which would make Rebecca available, if not I’d choose Jessica Braithwaite)
Sport: Josh Money
Weather: Chelsea Carey
If Sunrise were to produce a WA-dedicated edition, the presenters should be:
Co-anchors: Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun
News: Matt Tinney
Sport: Anna Hay (I had originally thought of Mark Readings, until he left the network this month)
Weather: Syan Dougherty
Alice Murray, ex-Nine News weekend presenter, would thus replace McMillan and Tsun presenting Seven News Perth on weekends. The rest of the roster remains unchanged.
A few changes I’d make on Sunrise and Weekend Sunrise next year:
Sunrise
Co-Hosts: David Koch (Mon-Thu)/Mark Beretta (Fri) & Natalie Barr
Sport: Mel McLaughlin (each market receives a local report)
Weather: Sam Mac
Entertainment & Features: Edwina Bartholomew (on maternity leave for a portion of 2022)
Local news inserts (every 30 mins):
Sydney - Monique Wright
Melbourne - Nathan Templeton
Brisbane - Bianca Stone
Adelaide - Elspeth Hussey
Perth - Matt Tinney
Weekend Sunrise
Co-Hosts: Mark Beretta & Sally Bowrey
News: Katrina Blowers (similar to how Sharyn Ghidella would commute for WS back in the day)
Sport: Matt Carmichael
Weather: James Tobin
Meanwhile, Matt Shirvington replaces Mel McLaughlin as the Sunday to Thursday sports presenter on 7NEWS Sydney, with Beretts picking up Fridays and Saturdays in addition to hosting Sunrise on Fridays and Weekend Sunrise.
I would turn off if Mel is on sport in my opinion she should not be the regular 6pm presenter. Put Matt Shirvington there. Anyone but Mel. Other than that a good line-up.
You mean an all-male sports anchor lineup at Seven - e.g. Mark Beretta, Matt Carmichael, Ben Davis, Ryan Phelan and Matt Shirvington? What about Michelle Bishop?
Ryan Phelan is long gone. RIP The Daily Edition and his legal issues.
Yes Michelle Bishop is fine I would have her replace Mel McLaughlin anyday.
A mock Weekend Today lineup after the shake up:
Weekday
Hosts: Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon
News/Sports: Alex Cullen
Weather: Tim Davies
Entertainment: Brooke Boney
Extra
Hosts: David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys (Mon-Thurs)/Belinda Russell (Fri)
Weekend
Hosts: Richard Wilkins and Sophie Walsh
News/Sports: Charles Croucher
Weather: Lauren Tomasi
That wouldn’t really work because Sophie taking on Nine News Fri/Sat weather means she can’t travel interstate for WT weather, which is important.
Best to leave Belinda on Nine News Fri/Sat weather, or give it to Kate Creedom.
I agree with the first part, but you can’t make Belinda work mornings and nights surely?
How’s that any different to making Sophie work mornings and nights as has been suggested?
Sorry true. Plus Belinda is only working 3 days anyway.

Some ideas for when Hitch retires at GTV-9
What we expect
Weeknights
Alicia Loxley
Weekends
Brett McLeod or Dougal Beatty (depending on when Hitch retires)
Afternoon News
Tony Jones (Mon-Wed), Laura Turner (Thu-Fri) (If Tony moves to Afternoon News, then Clint Stanaway will be weeknight sport reader, and Alicia Muling weekends.)
First at Five
Brett McLeod or Dougal Beatty
If Dougal does not want to be weekend 6pm anchor -
Tony Jones would be reading weekends, and Laura Turner would present Afternoon News all week.
If Tony does not want to read 6pm weekend, and Laura does not want to read Melbourne 4pm -
Clint Stanaway would read 6pm weekend, and Afternoon News (Mon-Tue), Tony will read weeknight sport, and Afternoon News (Wed-Fri)
When Rick and Sue retire from 7 News Perth:
Weeknights
Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun (news),
Ryan Daniel’s (sport)—Basil has reduced his workload but still be at Seven Perth.
Samantha Jolly (weather)
Weekends
Amelia Broun (news), —replaces Tim and Angela (who would take over as Mon-Fri bulletin.
Adrian Barich (sport),
Syan Dougherty (weather)
Milly is great.
Who?
Amelia Broun
