In Sydney, 2GB remains at #1 with 15.7% (-0.7), followed by ABC Sydney at 12.3% (-0.7). Of the FM stations, WS takes out the #1 spot with 8.1% (+0.5), followed closely by KIIS at 8% (Steady) & Smooth at 7.9% (-0.1). Both Nova & 2MMM went up 0.7% to 5.4%, whilst 2Day had a slight lift of 0.1% to 3.5%. 2UE fell 0.2% to 2.5%, whilst SEN fell 0.2% to 0.5%.

In Melbourne, 3AW remains on top with 18.9% (+0.7), followed by ABC Melbourne with 11.2% (-0.8) & Gold 104.3 with 10.9% (Steady), who is #1 FM by a long way. Smooth is a distant #2 FM with 7% (+0.2), followed by Nova with 6.5% (+0.2), Fox with 5.5% (-1.1), KIIS with 4.6% (Steady), JJJ with 4.3% (+0.3) & 3MMM with 4% (-0.7). Magic rates 1.5% (-0.2), whilst 3MP rates 1% (-0.2).

In Brisbane, Nova remains at #1 with 11.5%, with 4KQ closing in at 11.3%, followed by 97.3FM with 11%, 4MMM with 8.9% & B105 with 8.5%. 4BC just edged out ABC Brisbane, rating 7.9% (+0.3) to 7.8% (-0.8). 4BH fell 0.6% to 2.6%, partly as a result of a frequency change from 882 to 1116.

In Adelaide, Mix 102.3 remains on top, but with a 2.3% deficit to 11.5%, placing themselves only 0.2% ahead of ABC Adelaide at 11.3% (-1.0), followed by Cruise with 10.1% (+0.2), FiveAA with 10% (+1.7), Nova with 9.9% (+0.2), 5MMM with 8.6% (-0.4) & SAFM with 8.1% (-0.2).

And in Perth, Nova remains on top with 12.6% (-0.5), followed by 96fm with 11.4% (-0.8) & Mix 94.5 with 11.2% (-1.4). 6PR outrates ABC Perth 8.3% (+0.8) to 8.2% (-0.5), whilst 6MMM remained steady at 5.9%, with 6iX not far behind at 5.3% (+0.2).

pathetic, why on earth do they bother, dead air would rate better

Big result for 97.3 improving by 1.7 in Brisbane while 4KQ continues to climb. 4BC outrates ABC.

Triple M and the Hit network stations are officially “also rans”. When is something going to be done? Particularly Triple M. Just play rock you idiots! Get rid of the sport and talk. People looking for music don’t even try them anymore because you’re likely to get talk - so why bother.

Although obviously still competitive, Smooth is paying the price of bland. They’ve squandered their point of difference.

It’s not just bland, the music selection is at times completely off-image with the usual crowd that listen to Smooth.

When you have the likes of Gold and WSFM beating you by bigger margins you know your audience has slowly abandoned you.

I love Marty’s show, but I’m worried it isn’t blokey enough for their current image. It’s a great show with a great team and it sounds so good on air. But it isn’t just two morons talking about footy and beer.

To be fair, in Sydney, whilst its overall audience fell, Smooth went up 1.7% to 8.9% in the 25-39s, and up 0.9% to 7.8% in the 40-54s (but still a fair way behind WS, as well as KIIS & 2MMM). However, they did fell 1.2% to 9.4% in the 55-64s, placing themselves 5% behind WS.

In the 40-54s in Sydney, there’s a 3-way battle between WS, KIIS & 2MMM for the #1 spot, with only 0.8% separating #1 & #3.

In Melbourne, Gold 104.3 rates an astonishing 19.5% share in the 40-54s, way way ahead of 3MMM (8.3) & Smooth (6.1).

Absolutely some of the music they are playing on Smooth overlaps with what is played on Nova. Going by this survey Smooth loss is WSfm gain. They should not have messed with a successful format.

It’s interesting to see 3AW’s shares continued to go up in every timeslot except evenings while ABC’s share declined, when the survey period covered what would be the final months of COVID lockdown in Melbourne.

Most commercial FM stations suffered falls at breakfast (apart from Smooth which lifted 0.7 to 5.1%), with Gold retaining its title of No.1 FM breakfast show. Marty Sheargold’s Triple M show is dangerously low at 3.6%.

Gold, KIIS and Nova all posted gains at drive.

Nova posted big increases in 10-17s and 18-24s and was way ahead of the rivals in both demos. Nova is now the new leader in 10-17s. The recent TV commercial must have worked.

Hit Network’s Alphabucks Millionaire competition didn’t help the ratings of its metro stations at breakfast whatsoever. They (apart from 2Day) all posted small drops.

Could a switch to drive be on the cards with Molloy leaving Triple M???
This would mean 3MMM would then need a new breakfast show.
BTW Nova Sydney’s drive ratings have never recovered since Marty left the show, other states have faired better.

97.3 does tend to bounce around a bit. There’s no doubt 4KQ’s trajectory though.

Both 4MMM and B105 need help.

That is pretty much the case in all cities with both networks, Perth the exception with Mix 94.5.

That is the smallest share for 95.3 since S3/2016

This survey continues Smooth’s slide in overall audience share in Sydney that started from Survey 3. Since that survey, Smooth’s overall audience fell 27% from 10.8% in S3/2021 to 7.9% in S6/2021, whilst over the same period, WS was fairly steady over that time, bouncing between 8.3% (S4/2021) & 7.6% (S6/2021).

Hard to believe the SCA stations were once the powerhouses of FM radio. At what point do they concede defeat and decide the generic, cookie cutter sound of these stations needs to be dispensed with? These stations should be tailored to individual markets and reflect the pulse of the city into which they broadcast.

Brisbane and Perth are Nova’s strongholds

Brilliant results for Ben, Ray and 2GB. They are miles in front. Honest question… if 2SM joined the survey, do you think the GB share would fall? Obviously they’d still rate #1, but their overall share may fall …? Obviously TSL has a great deal to do with their figure and Covid has really seen talk dominate. Also, if I have average 150K listeners streaming my show per week (last week’s figures) and Lawsy (200K+) bearing in mind this is streaming only and not DAB or on 1269am …what sort of share might we be looking at 3-4% or more/less?
