In Sydney, 2GB is again #1 with 12.9% (-0.1), followed by KIIS with 10.2% (+1.0), Smooth with 9.6% (+0.8), WS with 8.6% (-0.1), ABC Sydney with 7.9% (-0.1) & Nova with 6.7% (-0.4). Both 2Day & 2MMM fell to 4.7% & 4.9%, whilst 2UE went up 0.4 to 3.3%. SEN remained steady at 0.4%, whilst Sky Sports went up 0.1 to 2%.
In Melbourne, 3AW remains at #1 with 15.7% (+1.0), followed by Gold 104.3 with 12% (+0.5), Smooth with 9.2% (+0.2), Fox with 8.6% (-0.2), Nova with 7.3% (-0.2), ABC Melbourne with 6.9% (-0.4), KIIS with 6.5% (+0.9) & 3MMM with 5.9% (-0.1). 3MP went up 0.2 to 1.2%, whilst Magic fell 0.4 to 1%.
In Brisbane, Nova is again #1 with 12.6% (+1.4), followed by KIIS 97.3 with 11.6% (+0.8), B105 with 11.1% (+0.5) & 4MMM with 10.9% (+0.9). 4KQ finished at 5th with 10.2% (-0.5). Elsewhere, ABC Brisbane fell 1.5 to 7%, whilst 4BC went up 0.5 to 6.3%, and 4BH fell 0.5 to 1.3%. 4BH would be hoping to get a huge lift in the ratings in surveys to come, given that a lot of 4KQ listeners & advertisers would be moving across to there. 4BC would also be hoping for a lift in ratings when Laurel, Gary & Mark moves to there.
In Adelaide, ABC Adelaide is #1 with 13.6% (+1.6), followed by Mix 102.3 with 10.6% (-1.0), Nova with 10.2% (-1.0), SAFM with 10.1% (+0.9), 5MMM with 9.9% (+1.7), Cruise with 9.7% (-0.8) & FiveAA with 8% (-0.1).
And in Perth, Nova is again #1 with 15.5% (+2.0), followed by Mix 94.5 with 12.8% (+0.1), 96fm with 10.4% (-1.5), ABC Perth with 9.8% (+0.1), 6PR with 6.7% (+0.5), JJJ with 6.3% (-0.5), 6MMM with 6.1% (-0.6) & 6iX with 4.6% (+0.3).
Unfortunately 4KQ was not able to end its 75 years of service on a high, finishing 5th overall in its final survey. It did however have the No.1 AM breakfast (Laurel, Gary & Mark) and No.1 AM drive.
Here in Melbourne, Christian O’Connell increased the lead over his FM breakfast rivals, up 1.2% from previous survey. Fox, Triple M and Nova saw their shares slipping at breakfast while KIIS went up. At drive, Carrie Bickmore’s temporary move to Europe with her family didn’t seem to affect her Fox show with Tommy Little. Carrie and Tommy went up by 1.1%, the second biggest increase in the timeslot behind 3AW. KIIS and Triple M also posted increases at drive, while Nova and Gold each dropped by 0.7%.
Do Melbourne really need 2 AM Music Stations in the Ratings which both are Performing under 2%, If I had to Choose just One of the AM All Music Stations Operated by ACE Radio to continue in the Ratings, I’ll pick Magic.
When Fairfax blew up Magic a few years ago it was rating a 6. It changed to the Talking Lifestyle format and didn’t get much further than a 1. Since then it has been a disaster. For Melbourne listeners, it’s better to have a classic hits format rather than a lifestyle station IMO and despite the low ratings, ACE are still making a good go at it.
Looking at the ratings in closer detail, I’d thought I look at the demo-by-demo ratings for 4KQ, which would make a good comparison to when SENQ gets its first full ratings survey in Survey 6.
As well as the commercial radio stations from adjoining licence areas such as Campbelltown, Gosford & Wollongong, which can be heard into much of Sydney.
The “Other Stations” ratings in Sydney by demo (with the highest listed station in brackets):
For comparison’s sake, the proportion of Cruise’s audience (the other ARN-owned metro AM station which they’ll still own) that are in the 65+ demo is 50%, whilst for 2UE, it’s at 81%, and for both 3MP & 4BH, 67%.
GfK Survey 4 of 2022 reveals that Nine’s talk stations achieved a cumulative audience of 1.874 million – up 9.1% on Survey 4 of 2021.
It’s the highest ever Survey 4 audience for the network, and comes off the back of record audiences in Surveys 1, 2 and 3.
Sydney’s 2GB is a dominant No. 1 with a share of 12.9, while Melbourne’s 3AW is also a clear No. 1 with a share of 15.7.
Brisbane’s 4BC and Perth’s 6PR both posted audience growth of 0.5 in Survey 4.
Greg Byrnes, Nine Radio’s Head of Content, said: “The pattern is clear – audiences are choosing live and local content, all day, every day, and our radio stations are the only ones delivering against that promise.
I’m extremely proud of all our teams – right across the network. We continue to be humbled by the loyalty of our listeners.”
In the breakfast slot, Ben Fordham Live is the market leader in Sydney with a share of 15.5, while Melbourne’s Ross and Russ increased their lead at breakfast by 1 share point to post a share of 19.8 – almost 9 points ahead of their nearest rival.
And in Mornings, Ray Hadley extends his record breaking run as Sydney’s No. 1 morning show with a share of 16.9 (up 0.4). This is Ray’s 142nd consecutive survey win and his best result of the year. Ray is also the Number 1 talk show in Brisbane with a 7.7 share.
In Melbourne, Neil Mitchell remains the undisputed No. 1 in the morning slot with a share of 18.5(up 1.1). It is Neil’s best result for 2022.

Not a lot, Cada has increased in the latest survey in Sydney, but these figures would also include C91.3, FBI, 2SER, i98 Star 104.5, Hit 101.3, and possibly Hope 103.2 aswell.
BTW the expensive rebrand to make CADA a national brand is failing dismally. Very low numbers in all markets except Sydney.
Perth even scorning asterisks.
ARN should have kept the Edge 96.1 as it was and not wasted their money.
My prediction for SENQ survey 6
0.5 Market share #12 last and asterisks in most of the above demos.
It will be interesting to see how many 4KQ listeners go to 4BC or 4BH. 4BC for breakfast, and then over to 4BH for music rather then the relays of 2GB after breakfast.
