Metro Radio Ratings: Survey 3, 2018

You’d think that’d be the case. The lack of planning such as Origin calling shows what a disaster it is. External marketing is close to zero.

Extremely tragic. The result shows its part contributing the number of commercial stations that are underperforming and are therefore great acquisition targets for those with the nous.

Still incorrect, somewhat. The girls in Perth still managing to keep Pete and Lisa on from 3 - 5pm.

Yes, when MRN sell the asset or a significant change of management/shareholders. MRN is only propped up by AW and GB.

Likely an anomaly. Let’s see what it’s like over four - five surveys.

KQ could do soak up more of the 973 and MMM audience in the 55 - 64.

ABC well below what it should be.

Has there been marked changes to other FM/AM in other demos and overall?

This is very telling, it’s not a the only survey.

I’m unsure why people would listen to two stations that are poor imitations of existing commercial formats. Logan 101 is slightly better. BAY has been thrown back to the 80’s with very questionable decisions made to programming.

Herald Sun is reporting that on Macquarie Sports Radio, drive hosts David Schwarz and Mark Allen have exacted a small measure of radio revenge on their former employer SEN by doubling their listening audience. However looking at the ratings, MSR only increased by 0.4% to 0.9% at drive while SEN was unchanged at 3.2%. Has Herald Sun exaggerated things?

Good question - and it has been a while! Only once in the last fifty years has there been a lower share for 612: a very odd looking 5.6 in S1/1987 (the trend around that book was 8.2 - 5.6 - 7.2, I have no idea what could have caused that low point.)

Huge improvements for 2Day. 7.0 in Afternoons is a reputable result for the station and Sydney market.

‘With Nova now Melbourne’s only true CHR format, the station has picked up a share of the 18-24 demo (+4.7).’ Very weird quote from Radio Today saying that Nova has a good share of the 18-24, doesn’t mention that it is 11% still from Fox, the #1 for that demo

When do they not?

ABC Radio Brisbane:

Perhaps an anomaly in the survey in the 80’s; nevertheless, it happened then and this year is no anomaly with significant changes.

Thanks very much @HUFF, still plumbing the depths of last time, down 0.2 overall from last survey which was then the next worst since the 1987 result you found.

Thanks @TV-Expert for the other audience tallies. Very interesting.

Is this a day ending in y?

Looking at the figures of this Survey, could a lot of the listeners of Talking Lifestyle have switched over to the Fm band and gone to WSFm? The demographic of 2UE / Talking Lifestyle is generally younger then 2GB.

2Day Fm is gaining at what looks to be the expenses of Nova with 2Day ahead in mornings at Afternoons. Nova could be in real trouble in Sydney in surveys ahead. KTM will stop the ship from completely sinking but as scary as this sounds 2Day Fm could beat Nova in Breakfast before the end of the year, provided the show does not implode.
Nova is in bad shape when F&W are beaten by the Grill Team, and Nova being only slightly ahead of Triple M on weekends.

Back on Macquarie Sports Radio, they could be rating in Sydney at the save levels that TLS was at in Brisbane and Melbourne. If they change format again do they go easy listening and compete with 2CH?

It is worth noting at some of this survey did cover the Talking Lifestyle period. The next survey will be MSR’s first full survey.

oh dear

Whichever bureaucratic noggin at the ABC dreamt up Brisbane’s morning show is on something potent.

Time for Paul and Cathy to realise they end to end the penny pinching and return to separate music scheduling and programming for Sydney Nova.

However, what didn’t happen during full TL surveys was a drop in bfast. It has time, so it means the audience has switched off 954 and this will continue come the next survey as the full result washes through.

The only way is down for MSR, no matter how optimistic you are. All the quality sales staff have long left, why stick around for penny dreadful commissions.

And whatever fool keeps agreeing to direct the program teams to serve up such irrelevant, narrowly focussed and hardly useful content. Such a stark contrast to the useful and interesting topics covered in Spencer’s time.

I miss Spencer’s breakfast show every day. Zonca solo last year was pretty good and held his own but with Levingston the show isn’t as good. It just doesn’t fit the ABC.

Also helped that Spencer was an absolute radio nut and it sounded like he had sampled many shows and took what he liked and adopted for his show.

MSR’s downfall is that nobody knows about it! Has anyone seen ANY posters in bus stops, billboards, TV or paper ads??? I haven’t. Atleast when 4BH became Magic there was advertising about.

For all of them. Nova 100 sounds so simple and inauthentic now with no live /local breaks.
