Metro Radio Ratings - Survey 2, 2026

Mixed results for Kyle and Jackie O before the abrupt halt to their breakfast show. It dropped one point in Sydney to 11.7% share, but increased by 0.3 in Melbourne to 5.4.

ABC Melbourne suffered the biggest fall in breakfast with Bob Murphy and Richelle Hunt (filling in for Sharnelle Vella on maternity leave) dropping 1.6. Overall it was a bad survey result for the station, dropping substantially in every timeslot.

Gold’s Christian O’Connell replaced Nova’s Jase and Lauren at the top of FM breakfast despite both shows posting small losses.

3AW retains the title as Melbourne’s top rating station with gains in every timeslot except evenings (unchanged from last survey).

K and J were present for the first 12 days of survey only. But the ratings didn’t crash - down 1 point in Sydney and still number one FM breakfast while the Melbourne ratings went up. Not good for Kyle and Jackie in any negotiations. Gold breakfast was also down in Sydney while smooth was up 0.8.

4BH outrates B105 in Brisbane to be 3rd overall.

Gold Brisbane up 11k from last survey to 30k listeners.

Half of the survey was the peak of the K&J news circus, so it makes sense there wasn’t a huge crash. Next survey is the real number for them.

Gold 101.7 breakfast: Oops.

Radio 101: Networking a breakfast show between Sydney and Melbourne or vice versa does not work. It didn’t work in the 80s with 2UE and 3AK, the 90s with Triple M and Richard Stubbs or the 20s with KIIS and Gold. In 2024 WSFM breakfast was ratings above a 10 share, now it’s “down down” to 5.5%.

The only people laughing over at ARN are Brendan and Amanda.

The quick fix would be to put J&A back on breakfast tomorrow. I suspect we are in for the long haul of “We have total confidence in Christian’s ability to build rapport with his Sydney audience and look forward to the team connecting more and more with Sydney. There was always going to be a period of adjustment as Sydney-siders tried out the new show and day-by-day Christian is gaining traction in the harbour city, just as he did in Melbourne”

The actual ARN response for 101.7’s breakfast ratings is translated as: “Shit - WTF?”

It’s becoming a tighter race with the FM’s in Adelaide all very close. Seems like SA FM is finally seeing some better results. Do they have a CHR format or more variety like Mix 94.5 (and now 2Day)?

4BH is a phenomenon, but is helped by the fact that no FM station is really catering to an adult music audience. Triple M is too much talk.

Having sampled Gold on DAB in Brisbane, I’m astounded it rates so well in Melbourne.

Though the dust is still yet to clear in Sydney, an 8.7 is still the poorest overall showing for KIIS since S8/21.
The tie atop the Sydney leaderboard is the first such occurrence since 2GB and 2Day knotted with a 13.8 in S6/00.
ABC/Perth’s 7.4 (with the addition of FM) is its best showing since S4/22.
ABC/Melbourne’s 3.9 is its poorest showing since S1/1963, the last survey before ABC’s programming realignment.

I suspect you’re quite right.

I expected to like the Christian show to be honest, but the constant “over-laughing” at each other is just too much. I can’t stand it. I can’t believe Melbourne loves it so much.

KIIS still rates even without KJ. well even though that survey happened during the drama.

statisitical error and maybe because it was Smallzy / Mike E at the helm.

Mick getting competitive now on MMM Melbourne, the Sydney show still dire.

Absolutely awful.

The Perth results are showing ABC Local gets a bump if it’s on FM.

Are they ever. As Huff pointed out, the worst since 1963.

You’d think 3LO would get a bump with AFL too.

Some big changes needed at 774.

I think KIIS might hold audience until things are finalised.

Let’s face it, many of K&J’s listeners aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed and they’ll believe Kyle’s “I’ll be back on air soon”

In regards to Gold as good as COC might be each major market deserves their own breakfast show and ARN are getting what they deserve.

If you look at streaming figures, KIIS1065 breakfast share went from 14.2% to 6.5%. Overall station 9.4% to 6.7% if I’m reading correctly.

Christian “Ridiculous Ratings” O’Connell’s next “Radical Act” could be less earnestness, but I think they’d be better off pulling the pin. The sappy “audience is the show” stuff might work for Melbourne but it’s clearly not going to work for Sydney.

Whoever came up with his “You’ll understand why when you listen”…just totally humourless, tone-deaf when you’re removing a local show.

Another case of Melbourne team making something for Sydney, like KIIS’s Sydney team making something for Melbourne?
