Gold’s mornings- not great. Looks like Sydney isn’t a big fan of Christian O’Connell. While Jonesy and Amanda in the arvo is slightly up from last survey.
As for KIIS, we will see how the next survey is. As mentioned, Kyle and Jackie O were on air ar the beginning of this survey, and people tuned in after to hear all the “hysteria” on the so called “Kyle’s return”.
There’s got to have been a few switching in just to see what was going on in the aftermath too. The figures back that up too - cume is up but share is down a bit, so a lot dabbled but didn’t hang around.
I suspect the drops will continue and be bigger again over the next couple of surveys.
Gold in Sydney is starting to look like a disaster, not unlike 101.1 in Melbourne. ARN really is hopeless. A company seemingly ruled by hubris and incredibly bad judgement.
Are we at all shocked though that 101.7 would lose a bit of skin in breakfast given they shifted a 20-year show out? Of course it was going to drop, even if they hoped it might not fall quite so far.
Not trying to be an ARN defender, it was absolutely a brave decision networking a Pom from Melbourne into Sydney breakfast, but by expecting Christian to maintain all or even most of J&A’s audience it’s setting an impossible task. No show that followed them could do that.
I will say though, if he’s still in the 5-6s at the end of the year (and presumably after some good promotion) then there might be some alarm bells going off.
Both that and “Real people, real stories, real humour” are generic promotional lines that don’t provide any hook or reason to engage non-listeners to sample the show. The promotional strategy for the show needs a complete rethink.
The entire schedule needs to be redone… for starters their weekday evenings program is absolutely boring and stale, to counter the likes of 3AW they’d need someone who can rival what 3AW lost when Nightline was axed.
Lisa Leong should be brought out of the cleaners room they have that’s Sunday Mornings and bring her onto Afternoons… Conversation Hour should absolutely be removed from the metro schedule, keep that as an opt out for the regional stations… there’s too many suggestions I have
I don’t think anyone is surprised Gold 101.7 dropped a bit in breakfast when the networking started, but I think it’s more than many were predicting. If it flatlines from here we’ve seen this movie before at 101.1 in Melbourne.
I’m not sure it was “brave” to network CoC into Sydney, some would say reckless is a better adjective. I don’t know why they didn’t do a national DAB rollout of CoC’s show first and maybe test the waters on a couple of regional stations first, before tackling Sydney.
I would say they are quite different, The Conversation Hour these days is more like an extended statewide Mornings program with guests and talkback, quite different to the national Conversations program and the old Jon Faine Conversation Hour (which I thought was the best format of the three).
It’s a totally different show. Non-Vic conversations is a one on one interview. The conversation hour post Faine is brainless discussions like ‘do we value hairdressers enough’.
Not everyone wants to listen to endless chit chat from the FM stations every morning.BBQ Bob is doing a great job as a solo breakfast show presenter on 4BH.
Unfortunately, it is near impossible to convert any stations in Melbourne from AM to FM due to how crowded Melbourne’s FM band is. Maybe Magic & 3MP should either try to market themselves with an attitude that disses FM. If Magic & 3MP decided to roast FM stations & poke fun at them, maybe people might pay attention. Otherwise, they should go talkback or digital only.
TV news is back reporting on radio ratings. Seven put a lot of effort into graphics in Sydney. No graphics for Melbourne or in Brisbane where the report only mentioned 3 stations (MMM, B105, Nova) ignoring 4BH that was 3rd overall.
