This only the third time Nova/Ade has had a #1 finish (S3/2016 and S7/2019 the others).

11.3 is the largest share for 1323 since 1992 (1993 if you count the 5DN simulcast books that didn’t break out 102.3 separately.)

Another poor survey for ABC Melbourne, despite a small recovery at weekday mornings and nights.

KIIS’ Jase and Lauren dipped by 0.1% while their FM breakfast rivals went up.

The top three in Perth are miles away from the rest, and the top two are neck in neck with Mix94.5 way down by more than 1%. Makes sense, my impression has been that Nova and 96fm are clean cut and focused on modern pop and classic rock/pop respectively, not muddled like 6MMM and increasingly Mix 94.5.

Interesting that 2JJJ had a big drop while Nova, KIIS, 2MMM, Smooth and 2Day all went up.

2Day is actually looking respectable now. They can keep rising if they continue to overlap 2WS and Smooth with their playlist and steal more listeners.

2GB & 3AW Australia’s No.1: Talk Radio’s best ever Survey 2

Sydney’s 2GB and Melbourne’s 3AW have increased their dominance as the No. 1 stations in Australia’s two biggest cities.

GfK Survey 2 of 2022 reveals 2GB (14.3 share) and 3AW (15.1 share) have both recorded audience increases of 5%. Both stations are well ahead of their nearest competitors.

Almost two million Australians are now listening to Nine’s talk radio stations – 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR – representing a 9% jump year-on-year. This is the best ever Survey 2 result for the network.

In the key 25-54 demographic, audience is up 15% on Survey 1 and 23% year-on-year. And with the 35-64 demographic, audience is up 5.9% on Survey 1 and up 10.5% year-on-year.

In Sydney, Ben Fordham Live is a clear No. 1 with a share of 18.9%. More than half a million people are now tuning into Ben – the highest cumulative audience for the breakfast program on record. Ray Hadley celebrates his 140th consecutive survey win with a 15.8% share (up 0.9).

In Melbourne, Breakfast with Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft is a dominant No. 1 with 19.2%. Mornings with Neil Mitchell was also a clear No. 1 with 18.3% (up 0.4).

Greg Byrnes, Nine Radio’s Head of Content, said: “2GB and 3AW are well established as the trusted voices of their cities but in this survey they’ve managed to attract even more listeners. Ben Fordham’s performance is particularly impressive given the 2GB breakfast program has never had this many people tuning in each morning. Across the network audience numbers are up significantly in the key demos and that will only increase as more Australians turn to talk ahead of a May 21 election.”

Those ratings for 6PR look pretty poor after decent ratings last year.

It’s worth noting that 2Day has increased their overall ratings since Survey 5 of last year, going from 2.6% in that survey to 5.1% this survey. That’s a 96% increase in their share in the space of 5 surveys! :open_mouth:

This is also 2Day’s best overall share since S2/2020, proving that their “The Hits You Love from the 90s to Now” format that they have in place since late last year is wooing in listeners. Since last survey, their share in the 25-39s went up from 7.6% to 9.9% (outrating Smooth in the process), whilst in the 40-54s, it went up from 4% to 5.1%.

For all those who said Hughesy, Ed and Erin should be axed, look how they’re doing now - an improvement. I commented months ago that they should persist with the trio so it’s good to see them doing better.

To be fair, he also led MIX94.5 and 92.9. :joy:

This is unfortunate to see as I think ACE have done a great job re-working these stations. I don’t know what the solution is, maybe more promotion so people actually know they exist?

The Sydney ratings really show the power of listeners who listen for long periods of time.

KIIS is No.1 with the 10 - 17, 18 - 24 and 25 - 39 demographics. It is No.2 with the 40 - 54 year olds. KIIS even rates a respectable 6.8% with the 55 - 64 year olds.

But they trail 2GB for the overall number one station by a long shot - 14.3% to 9.6%. It’s all those older 2GB listeners who turn the radio on a breakfast and leave it on all day (as many are retired and don’t work).

What I would like to know is where all the listeners came from to fm considering 2day, Nova and KIIS all went up.

Nova 96.9 7.3 share in mornings would have to be their highest share in mornings in years, they normally average around a 5.

In the digital ratings the station formerly known as The Edge 96.1 bounced back to second. The next survey will give us a better picture of what the audience reaction to the launch, and the early days of Cada has been.

Also Mike E and Emma have boosted the ratings of RnB Fridays in their very first survey since leaving The Edge.

Not sure whether these results are more of a reflection of Sky Sports Radio doing well to foster a decent audience for a mostly rolling racing service or an indictment on SEN that it’s languishing in the ratings and falling further behind SSR.

That’s a result of the music improvements at 2DayFM, they have got the playlist right. The overall sound has improved and Zoe Sheridan does a good job in the mornings leading into the workday. The only problem for them is evenings are down.
