In Sydney, 2GB remains on top with 12.7%, up 0.6 from the previous survey. As for the #1 FM spot, there’s been a change, with Smooth taking the top spot with 10.8%, despite going down 0.6, with KIIS gone down 1.0 to 10.5%. Further down the list, Nova was 4th (#3 FM) with 8% (+0.3), followed by WS with 7.5% (-1.5). 2UE had a big jump this survey, going up 2.1 to 5.6%, beating out ABC Sydney (5.4, -0.6), 2MMM (5.0, -0.2), 2Day (4.6, -0.6), and JJJ (4.1, +0.5). SEN went up 0.7 to 1.1%, levelling with Sky Sports Radio.
In Melbourne, 3AW remains on top with 14.5% (+0.9), with Gold 104.3 a clear #2 with 11.8% (+1.5). This was followed by Fox with 9.4% (-0.9), 3MMM with 7.8% (+1.4), Smooth with 7.5% (-1.9), Nova with 7.1% (+0.7), ABC Melbourne with 6.5% (-0.1), and KIIS with 6.4% (-1.2). SEN went up 0.2 to 2.6%, whilst Magic went up 0.4 to 1.4%, and 3MP went up 0.6 to 1.6%.
In Brisbane, B105 takes the top spot with 13.8% (+2.1), followed by 4MMM with 13.2% (-0.1), Nova with 11.4% (-1.3), 4BH with 9.1% (+1.0), KIIS973 with 8.2% (-1.8), and 4BC with 6.5% (-0.1). ABC Brisbane fell 1.0 to 4.3%, whilst SENQ went up 0.2 to 0.5%.
In Adelaide, Mix 102.3 takes back the top spot with 13.3% (+1.4), followed by 5MMM with 11.6% (-2.8), Nova with 11.3% (+1.2), SAFM with 8.9% (-0.3), Cruise with 8.6% (+0.3), FiveAA with 8.2% (+0.7), and ABC Adelaide with 6.6% (-1.7).
And in Perth, Mix 94.5 takes the top spot with 15.6%, going up a whopping 3.2 from the previous survey. This was followed by Nova with 14% (+0.4), 96fm with 12.4% (-2.9), 6MMM & JJJ with 7% each (-2.2 & +1.7 respectively), ABC Perth with 5.6% (-0.9), 6PR with 5.3% (-0.5), and 6iX with 4.2% (-0.1).
In Brisbane, that’s a big result for B105 to lift by 2 with Triple M not far behind. Shocker for 973 aka KIIS that drops 2 and falls 1 below 4BH. How low can ABC Brisbane go, now at 4%? Breakfast is similar though KIIS is ahead of 4BH there - can’t help but think that the 4BC breakfast team is on the wrong station. Nova can still claim to be number one cume.
Some big changes in DAB shares that have questionable accuracy. Coles Radio ahead of smooth Brisbane.
Not a good survey for KIIS elsewhere as well as KIIS in Sydney slips behind smooth as breakfast loses share while KIIS in Melbourne also down.
Big losses for KIIS Melbourne as expected, but breakfast held up better than I thought it would’ve.
Good initial gains for Nova, the next few surveys will be very interesting.

Think KIIS Sydney jumped the gun a bit as 2GB has overtaken them…
They’re probably also including networked Hour Of Power listeners too.
That’s the best showing for B105 in nearly 20 years, since S7/2004’s 16.0 share.
Ben, Liam and Belle’s Nova breakfast show finished on 6.7% share, up 1.7 from the final survey of 2023. Something for Jase and Lauren to build on.
Christian O’Connell made a great start to 2024, regaining the title as Melbourne’s No.1 FM breakfast show from Fox’s Fifi, Fev and Nick, with 11.9% share (up 2.9) to Fox’s 10.8%.
Jacqui Felgate didn’t have a good result in her first full survey as 3AW drive host. The show dropped 2 points from last survey to just 8.2%, equal fourth with Triple M and Smooth. Denis Walter however enjoyed a whopping increase of 7.6!
ABC Melbourne posted small increases in afternoons and drive and dips in other timeslots.

Not a great result for Triple M Adelaide but they tend to be stronger during the footy season so will be interesting to see how they go over the next few surveys. SAFM is still languishing well behind.
Just looking at the Sydney results, but the others are similar, some dubious DAB+ stations figures I’d say, but also having the “Radio” (AM/FM/DAB+) figures alongside the streaming figures, & while yes a lot of people are streaming, these figures should put to bed the regular arguments in here that no one listens to the radio any more, that everyone is streaming nowadays.
These are obviously only radio stations listed streaming & not other stations outside the markets or things like Spotify, but streaming numbers are still only a small proportion of listeners, most listeners are still using a radio & mostly still AM or FM, not DAB+.
Funny thing is, it’s the ABC stations who have closer streaming figures to “radio” figures, the stations with younger demographics who you’d think would be listening to a stream instead of the radio are far greater apart with the likes of KIIS Sydney having Cume’s of about 1.4 million radio listeners, but only around 300,000 streaming listeners.
WSFM daytime (Ugly Phil and Steve) went dip into this ratings survey.
James Speed is nailing it at Mix94.5. Anyone else notice an upward trend since his arrival? Absolute gun.
As for KIIS97.3? I would drop the KIIS ASAP.
Maybe they should’ve had Pure Gold 97.3 instead… with Laurel, Gary & Mark at breakfast.
Amazing survey for 2ue. Now they need to try and maintain it.
Looking at the Sydney ratings in more detail, it’s interesting to note that WS is beaten not only by KIIS, but also by Nova in the 40-54s. By contrast, Gold dominates that same demo in Melbourne.
They would have had a clear No. 1 with Pure Gold 97.3 (even including some new hits) with the 4KQ breakfast team. We can only speculate but I reckon they’d be rating 16 or 17% with that.
My callouts:
- 97.3 is a disaster as KIIS. Re-think immediately. You’d have to think Nova Ent. wouldn’t be pleased with the direction that ARN has taken 97.3 when they have their own product (Smooth FM) that would no doubt do better in the Brisbane market, and KIIS973 is starting to encroach on their market for Nova 106.9
- It was only a matter of time until 4BH outrated KIIS973. 4BH doing amazing at 9%, close to where 4KQ was. Thanks SEN!
- 2UE is doing great! Over 5% this survey.
- Pity Magic and 3MP can’t seem to gain the traction that 4BH and 2UE have
- I can’t see 6MMM lasting much longer in its current format
- ARN “midas touch” seems to leading to a continual decline of 96FM
- WSFM not firing at all in Sydney, compete opposite in Melbourne with Gold
- Vice-versa with Smooth in Sydney and Melbourne
It doesn’t help that Robin and Kip is boring as batshit. Why didn’t they replace Terry?
So True! Strong Numbers in workday for MMM Brisbane too
Massive missed opportunity not moving 97.3 to Pure Gold, looks like Triple M is reaping the rewards of that.
Will ARN now move KiIS 97.3 younger to match Sydney and Melbourne?
Nova 106.9 is definitely off the boil, if it doesn’t win drive it won’t be #1 with it’s current playlist up against B105.
I would’ve put LG&M on Pure Gold 97.3 Breakfast and had Robin & Kip do a live & local Brisbane drive show (to go against 4MMM’s local drive show).
