Metro Radio Ratings: Survey 1, 2020

Good insight.

Poor planning by 9 Radio not commencing the new Music format before the start of Survey 1 - 2020. Then again, they only had a few years to realize the Sports Talk Format would never make money.

Bad figures for the Music format will have to wait for Survey 2 - 2020.

smooth in Sydney may be suffering as it is sounding a little more WSFM.

“The same old songs, all the time”

When I hear the same old song I hit the old station selector button.

Cue: Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. Hit: Switch to 2DayFM

Yes true.

I’m actually preferring Smooth Relax of late.

They need to shit or get off the pot regarding whether they are a Triple M station or the 94.5 of old. This half and half clearly isn’t working.

Edited to add: looking at the dab+ ratings, they need to kill MMM country in Perth and put Hard and Heavy in its place.

Yep totally agree re 94.5

Triple M country isn’t really firing anywhere in metro areas.

Neither is Triple M Soft Rock, but it’s far more successful in Sydney than anywhere else by a large margin.

Triple M Country is brand destroying.

It makes as much sense as “Smooth Death Metal” or “2GB Mornings with Greta Thunberg”.

Cruise is No.2 in mornings and afternoon and No.1 over the weekend.

Music works. Even on AM.

Goodness, those Triple M ratings in Melbourne are really mediocre. Same could be said for Sydney.

I have been tuning out more often in the last few weeks. Probably due to Steve Price making weekly appearances on the Hot Breakfast, but also due to the playlist becoming repetitive.

Lol yes.

The only thing on Triple M Sydney that really interested me last year was Radio Chaser.

Now that show is gone (probably because the team is busy with other projects, like how Craig Reucassel is doing those couple of documentaries for ABC-TV), there’s no real incentives for me to have a radio on 104.9FM.

Good jump by Fitzy and Wippa. Anyone know what their highest rating has been? Can’t say I recall seeing them in the 8s much

Fitzy & Wippa scored an 8.4% share in Survey 8 of 2018.

The whole team at Fitzy and Wippa work well together to produce a great show. If Nova could just fix their playlist, they would be closer to the top of the ratings.

If Nova Sydney could take some inspiration from Nova Brisbane, they could really smash it in the ratings. Look at Brisbane. They abandoned that national playlist that dragged them down and have now gone back to their own playlist and have climbed back up again. Sydney need to follow Brisbane.

The Nova Brisbane playlist is more Sydney centric then it was 3-4 months ago. Apart from a couple of different throwbacks each hour, excluding Throwback Thursday, they are now very similar. Nova 106.9 is no longer playing those edgy fresh hit that made the station what it was.

Rating wise they have gone back up to 2nd overall, but they still struggle in day parts. KTM is the saviour for the station.

Nova 96.9 just cannot get the 9-12 slot to rate, but in 12-3pm they beat Kiis and 2day fm. Is it K&JO running to 10:30am causing the issue??? 2day fm does not seem as affected as they rate higher 9-12 then Nova.

A bit of coverage from Seven’s 4pm Sydney bulletin for Survey #1:

There was also a bit during the 6pm bulletin (which I unfortunately didn’t capture, but it had a table of the top stations), but this doesn’t seem to have been posted online.

Meanwhile Nine had a brief RVO just before Finance & Fuel/Weather, mainly focusing on 2GB (of course) but also mentioning that Kyle & Jackie O on KIIS was the #1 FM breakfast program:

On the back of some twitter comments from ABC people such as below, why is the focus on shares and not cumulative audiences?
