Great find.
So really there’s only three people actually monitoring the forum.
@OnAir, @TelevisionAU and @bacco007.
Dunno who @Steve is? He’s only posted once in 10 years.
I would suggest at least another two moderators join the team.

Early days there were like 8 or 9 surely I remember. Bring back Squee.
I recall the same as you.
There were heaps of moderators and they were generally, whether intentional or not, spread out over the day.
It seems NewsWeary wasn’t replaced after his disappearance too.
Do not say a little in many words, but a great deal in few.
As the inaugural Mawk Member of the Year 2009, I’d like to put myself forward. I will run on the fact that I shall delete any post that disagrees with my idea for 9:30 late local news, or getting rid of radio shows I dislike.
You have my vote.
I agree - I’m sure there a plenty of people here who would be willing to step up if needed and would do a fine job
Yup. I’ve got two names in mind who I believe are always good members who have been around long enough to earn this role.
I wonder what the discussion was because now I’m curious to see the discussion I was having with Karen about mental health issues and asylums did upset someone. I know earlier in the thread that there was discussion about people with mental health issues and employment , but if someone did take offense to that please let me know and I can apologize.
When it comes to choosing moderators, our approach has been simple: Don’t call us; we’ll call you.
We actively consider staff numbers - at this current juncture, we’re satisfied that we are adequately staffed.
I guess that there ends this discussion then.
I too have found everything here true in recent times. Thats why i decided to keep the account open now but step back. Everytime I say or do something on here its either abuse in PM or more of the same nonsense that they carry on with. Cant just say they disagree, have to get cheap shots in while doing it.
Thats just what the site has become.
This is something that we have lengthy staff conversations about - largely the requirement for staff intervention is small in comparison to the volume of posts we receive. More staff doesn’t necessarily result in issues being dealt with faster either.
Yes, we have fewer moderators than the sites had in the past - partially this is because the current software is more sophisticated in managing the site than the old board software we used, but we’ve also evolved our moderation practices over time.
So that everyone knows - reporting posts and muting users and threads get fed back to staff in an aggregated way to suggest there may be issues with particular users (we don’t get user lists for muting, just a count of users). We use this information to consider further action (on top of stuff that is found by staff directly).
I also think some people don’t realise it’s always been like this, at least since I’ve been here in 2005.
Maybe rather than demanding more mods, everyone just pull their heads in and be ‘adult’ about it all.
It was a suggestion. Nobody is demanding anything.
Abuse is not ok by any means. Please report any incident using the flag/report feature.
Fair. Maybe demand is too strong of a word. And whilst moderation in any public setting is important, I still think this place shouldnt need babysitters.
People need to relax a little and concentrate of much better things. Like thoughts of absolute domination of the Hurricanes by the mighty Thunder tonight.
Who was the founder of Media Spy?
Like you, I roughly came here around 2004/5.
