Member Behaviour

Hi all,

Thought I would take the opportunity, given the week that we’ve had, to remind everyone that while things can get heated every now and then, it’s only because we are passionate about the topics we believe in. Also we are in an online environment, where it can be hard to understand tones that people are using when writing posts.

I can see how some people might think that something may be racist, sexist, etc, but I don’t think it’s fair to put labels on people, especially when things can easily be misinterpreted. Sometimes, a peaceful conversation is all it takes. Also, many people on this site, like myself, have something which can make what they write appear confusing to another person, so it’s important to keep this in mind.

What I’m trying to say is, we can all have a peaceful conversation while still defending topics and political view points we are passionate about. Also, I think @OnAir and @bacco007 would rather be sitting next to a fire drinking a glass of Peroni on a Sunday than be dealing with things that can be resolved through a peaceful discussion.

That’s all - rant over - go back to your usual shitposting.

I’m sorry, everybody. I tend to mentally drift because of an injury. I mean no harm to anyone and anybody.

All good - wasn’t targeting you or anyone in particular.

I was disgusted to see yesterday that one member made a suggestion that another had a mental health disorder. Totally inappropriate and had no place on this platform. Has not been that members first rodeo of insults.

I’m just really over the drama to be honest. It’s sad to see that others can’t agree to disagree or agree with others point of views. Instead just attacking and putting others down is just completely unnecessary it’s high school behavior. No wonder I’ve pulled back on posting more frequently.

I’ve not come across a post from you before, if you have an issue report the post and mods usually deal with those quickly.

Same - although I will admit at times I’ve might’ve let my emotions get the best of me, it’s honestly getting very tiering seeing discussions de-railed by putdowns, insults and attacks.

I applaud you for owning it, and atleast you come back and acknowledge it.

Some of these members see no issue with there posts. There’s never an apology or going around it by gilding the lily. blasphemy

I have been told to get a job, that I am uneducated, among other things I will not get into (years ago - can probably go back and look at the Turdall vs the legal system thread) I don’t know where you saw the personal attack or what it was in relation to. I do think we need to understand things can get heated in the spectrum and that’s ok. I still agree with you attacks that are too low should not be allowed. But I do feel if you are going to attack or insult someone in those forums to just step away for a bit. Or if you can’t handle debates don’t go into the spectrum.

Part of the issue is though is that there has also been a number of incidents outside of the spectrum as well.

The one yesterday was out of the spectrum thread. I’m not excusing prior incidents or ongoing in certain areas. But it seems to be growing across most threads on the site.

I’m not trying to be a Narc here but reporting comments is helpful but just everyday knowledge on member behavior on forums and how interactions should be made needs to be addressed to some I feel.

Yeah I don’t particularly like using the report button, I think I have used it fewer than 5 times. I have muted a few members, it’s not anything to do with them it’s simply for my own mental health. I try not to hold grudges but muting for an extend period of time has helped and when I am ready to read their comments again I will unmute. Sometimes you need to put your mental health first. If less people bite back to their posts maybe that will help them as well.

I have muted many Spectrum threads as they live up to their name. They are always just either full of abuse or nonsense.

Apart from the obvious answer, kindness and respect to all, what can realistically be done? You cannot control everyone 24/7.

I’ve noticed a severe drop in the number of moderators compared to say 5/10 years ago.

Perhaps an increase in staffing could work? Maybe potentially looking at viable candidates who are usually online when current moderators aren’t?

There are a few members here that I can think of who would be fair and just in the role if they were interested.

Why? While we (staff) may not agree with your assessment of the content, its the fastest way to bring our attention to something.

Yes, I would be interested to know how many moderators there are currently?

It does seem like there’s been a drop-off compared to previous years and maybe a slight increase would help.

I agree that extra moderators would go a long way.

My understanding is there are technically 6 moderators, however, two of them are no longer part of the site, so there are only four who are regularly active. At one point there were seven moderators on the site

IMO it feels like maybe another one-three to fill the gap could be useful

No I have used it if I feel it’s crossed a line. I just believe people are allowed to express their views and sometimes if something is in the grey area would rather leave it. The world is full of robust debate and differing opinions. I don’t want to shy away from it on a forum either. That’s just my take.

Is there still a mod list? The old forum had one. The original owner long left, and many people have come and gone, I don’t really know any of the mods except TvAU and old mate.

Found one here:

There are three admins (@bacco007, @TelevisionAU and @Steve), and two moderators (@OnAir and @WAtvVideos)
