Change “a few weeks ago” to “today” for me
Here’s a passing that went under our collective radar… Bob Shanks.
Needless to say, his obituary makes no mention of his ill-fated venture to the Ten Network down under
He certainly made an impact, for all the wrong reasons, during the brief period he was Ten’s managing director. His resume is impressive but you have to wonder what Frank Lowy was thinking when he appointed someone to run his network who clearly had no idea about the tastes of Australian viewers.
I seem to recall reading at the time that Shanks actually came highly recommended to Lowy by one Bruce Gyngell.

That’s quite sad. Accompanied me on the drive home for many years, a voice made for news reading.
I thinks couple of stints at the ABC and 3UZ also come to mind.
Shocked to hear the death of Jim Graham. I heard his voice a lot when I listened to ABC radio news at 1pm.
ABC’s statement:
The ABC is saddened by the loss of our friend and colleague Jim Graham.
Jim’s lovely baritone brought radio news to listeners across Victoria for more than 20 years.
Off-air he was a dedicated and talented radio news sub who mentored and trained generations of young reporters.
Most importantly, Jim was a gentleman. He was always kind and generous with his time and never failed to ask how your day was going.
The newsroom was his family and he was very much loved and respected by everyone.
Our thoughts and condolences are with his family.
Jim Graham was 63.
Far out, so young. One of the authoritive voices with the news. Not too many of those left that I hear these days. Sounds like the passing was a real shock too, terrible so close to Christmas too.
Tamara Oudyn mentioned Jim’s passing at the end of ABC News Victoria this evening. The bulletin is now available on iView.
Cameraman Troy Gordon, who had been a crew member on I’m a Celebrity UK since 2017 (when it was filming in Australia), has died. Gordon worked as a lighting and camera operator in Australia since the mid-1980s, under his own company TRG Vision.
(Mark “Tarzan” Herlaar, known as Kiosk Kev on the show, also competed on Australian Survivor last year)
EDIT: Troy also worked on Married at First Sight and Australian Survivor. He covered news events such as the Gulf War in 1990 and the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and was a recipient of the Golden Tripod award from the Australian Cinematographers Society.
Another former England cricketer has died.
He could be heard in TV commentary when Australia toured South Africa in the past two decades or so.
