No I very much disagree with the first part of your post. The show absolutely was not like that to begin with - I mean, just look at the change in Matt’s role on the show, for example. Now he’s practically a clown and everyone’s best friend.
No there are definitely more of the corny shenanigans from the judges this season than last.
When Sarah chose prawn and shrimp paste as main ingredients in the immunity challenge I knew she was in trouble, because guest chef Ben Devlin specialises in seafood. So it was admirable that Sarah only lost the challenge by just one point. Before tonight I did not know how beef fat and shrimp paste could be combined to create a tasty sauce.
Had Sarah chosen other pairings like goat’s milk and goat’s curd she might have a chance.
I haven’t noticed anything but I’m pretty sure you say the same thing every single year.
I’m not even sure why you still watch Masterchef to be honest. If I hated a show as much as you seem to hate Masterchef then I definitely wouldn’t be spending that much time per week watching it.
Really? Do you remember Matt snorting as much last season? Grabbing bowls of food and scurrying away from the other judges? Knocking on tables after eating something? I don’t. Not to this extent. The end of last season got back to basics, and that’s why it rated well.
It’s out of habit, I assure you. I long for the day another network comes along with some else decent to watch at 7:30 at this time of year. Failing that, would love to see Ten shut down and taken off air, and then I might finally be free of watching this…
Why would it be the last one because of one season of lower ratings? If next season rates even lower than yes I would say it could be its last season. Masterchef was in a worse off position in 2013 when most episodes rated between 600-700k and the finale only rated 921k.
MasterChef is still performing decently in the ratings for Ten at the moment and will probably be back on our screens next year.
But at the same time, I do think the show (and all current “tentpole” reality formats on commercial TV generally) will eventually come to an end due to increasing costs and declining ratings.
Its simply a question. The cost is quite high already. Could only imagine it becoming higher. If ten are cutting costs a show that is losing viewers and expensive could go. I am sure there are replacements a lot cheaper.
