MasterChef Australia

Probably more to do with it being on air for 9 years. Which is amazing ans a great achievement.

Um? Astonishing as in a compliment

It’s a reality show that’s been on-air for 9 years straight, in a declining TV market, surpassing Big Brrother & Australian Idol

The last I checked MasterChef Australia hasn’t been on for nine years/seasons, 2016 marks the eighth season (not counting the Celebrity, Junior, All-Stars and what ever other spin-offs the show has had) if I’m not mistaken.

I think Luke is saying MasterChef will be on air for 9 years straight in 2017.
This article from The Australian shows how popular MasterChef is in India. India is now the show’s biggest overseas market, bigger than NZ and Britain.

Great immunity challenge episode tonight. I always thought it was between Brett and Chloe on who got the nod to face the guest chef.
Before tonight I did not know there was such a thing called “red eye gravy”. After seeing Morgan McGlone in action I would love to eat at his Belle’s Kitchen restaurant in Fitzroy or Richmond one day.
Chloe did not have a chance even if her meringue was not grainy nor overwhipped.

Tonight was apparently a ‘happy day’ in the MasterChef kitchen, so we’re greeted by a shot of Gary standing there grinning like a Cheshire cat, clapping and whooping etc. telling them all to hurry on in. Elimination days see a dour, stone-faced Gary standing there like an idiot.

Do we really need to treat viewers like they’re 5 years old?

All the food looks yummy except for the prawns,I don’t eat them. The dessert looks nice too.

MasterChef Australia episodes are meant to be “timeless”, i.e. they can be shown any time of the year and average viewers won’t tell when the challenges were held. However the timing of tonight’s episode (first day of Chinese New Year) really gave away when filming of this season took place, as the challenge was held nearly halfway through the season.
The outcome of the episode was virtually decided at the start when the red team decided to make three dishes while the yellow team settled on two. More often than not in a earning-based challenge, the team which made more dishes would get more money even though some of the food might be mediocre. Yellow team decided to bring in grilled tiger prawns when they realised no one was buying their food with less than 30 minutes to go, but it was too late. (And the judges did not get to taste the prawns either) Nicolette was the greatest contributor to red team’s win, making a whopping 157 portions of her fruit, coconut and sago dessert, although I wonder why she used spices in the dessert as it was not a traditional Chinese recipe.
@Chris I think I saw you on TV, were you behind Kylie Kwong during the tasting? I read your recount again right after the teams decided on the items, and what you wrote covered most of what happened in the episode except for the prawn. It was strange that the judges announced the winning team in the open (outside the stalls) because there would still be people watching late at night, and that the contestants walked down Little Bourke Street towards Russell Street where there were still people watching the lion dance.

That was a good episode tonight - as I’ve said, the episodes where the judges are in the background and not heard from are always the best. We’re interested in the food, and the contestants, not how many grunts and moans Gary can put on while licking the back of an ice cream spoon in excitement.

I know people on these boards, like J Bar, used to hate how overexposed ‘Eddie Everywhere’ was
these three are even worse. I saw Gary on the Project tonight as a special guest - no wonder Ten is in the doldrums. Imagine Eddie being interviewed on ACA, laughable.

The Project and ACA are not the same format, that’s not really a fair comparison.

Nine went one step further:

At least Ten didn’t have Gary fill in for Waleed.

It’s not a step further because Eddie is actually a television PRESENTER
that’s his whole job! haha. It’s actually the opposite of being interviewed

Being interviewed however means that you’re a subject that has something to say, that is relevant or related to some topical issue, or who is generally a popular figure. Gary fails miserably on all three.

Next week is Power Apron Week according to the watermark in tonight’s episode. Special guests include Luke Nguyen and Curtis Stone.
