MasterChef Australia

Yeah I was guessing that Jamie had to head off so they weren’t going to wait around until the market cleared out to speak to the team. You could tell it was loud inside and the judges were speaking a lot louder than usual.

It’s a shame to see Jamie go. I really was enjoying him especially the last couple of episodes. As I posted above I’m not completely sold on the new judges yet but hopefully they settle into the roles more with Jamie gone.

10 has started a new viewer competition with one lucky viewer to receive $1000 Coles gift card. You need to watch the show next week (May 5 to 8), grab the codeword, then enter it and your details at 10play website.

You would think that a national television show could offer a prize that’s a little more over $1000. C’mon Masterchef.

And I had to laugh this week when the contestants completed a group challenge at Queen Victoria Markets - the home of fresh food. The contestants picked up their fruit and veges from a Coles home delivery vehicle. I know they sponsor the show but it all seemed a bit surreal, like they were dissing the markets.

I suspect Coles would choose the value of the prize.

Maybe someone at Masterchef should have asked for a little bit more…

$1,000 would go a long way for someone at the moment with the cost of living pressures.

The challenge was filmed on a Wednesday when the market is normally closed. On this occasion however, it took place on the opening night of Summer Night Market, which is held on Wednesday nights (except during Christmas) from November to April. Fresh food and produce is not sold at Summer Night Market.

Synopses for season 16 week 3

Sunday 5 May
Andy’s mum Maree is in the kitchen to set an elimination challenge inspired by some of the Allen household’s classic retro dishes. Contestants must make them MasterChef worthy, or risk going home.

Monday 6 May
Today’s Mystery Box comes with a twist, as our four judges throw in a secret ingredient that our cooks will have to wrangle. The secret ingredients won’t be unveiled until 30 minutes into the cook, and each contestant has to choose one of four secret ingredients and include that into their dish.

Tuesday 7 May
Judge Jean-Christophe Novelli sets the first Pressure Test of the competition with his 1992 dessert, ‘Jack in the Box’.

Wednesday 8 May
In Round 1 of immunity challenge, one ‘champion’ per team cooks, with the winner of Round 1 then taking their teammates into Round 2, and out into the garden to cook for Immunity.

I’ll have to go to Queen Victoria Markets next time I visit Melbourne, I’ve never been there .
Do they always have a few food stalls there?
I’ll miss Jamie as a guest judge ,I find it hard to understand Jean-Christophe at times with his thick French accent,he’s obviously an experienced chef and a great addition to the judging panel this season

They should’ve hold this off episode for Mother’s Day next week.

Yes they have permanent food stalls during market opening hours. Perhaps the most famous of which is American Doughout Kitchen, stationed at Queen Street.

There are also seasonal night markets on Wednesday nights, selling hot and cold food, from late November to early May.

The Night Markets are very different to the usual day Market’s. At different times of the year the Night Market is on Wednesday nights, which is more focused on food truck type foods, entertainment and the type of stalls you’d expect at a night market (compared to a day market which as more fresh produces etc). Personally I’ve avoided the Night Market for a while because every time that I’ve been it just gets so overcrowded that for me it’s not worth it.

How could they hold an elimination episode off for a week? I assumed when it was filmed that they didn’t have an exact airdate so did this thinking that it would land somewhere close to Mother’s Day.

Ok thanks for the info

Andy definitely takes after his Mum ,looks a lot like her

In Round 1, one member per team creates a dish using a chosen everyday ingredient: tomato ketchup, canned chickpeas, swede, frozen corn, tofu, and kalamata olives.
In Round 2, the three members of the winning team have to create a BBQ dessert in the garden in one hour, using a Heatlie hydrogen barbeque. The contestant who makes the best dessert dish wins immunity.

MasterChef Australia Is Hitting The Road.

Next week MasterChef Australia will showcase Victoria’s Goldfields region across two mouth-watering episodes supported by Visit Victoria.

On Monday and Tuesday night, MasterChef Australia will show off exceptional regional produce, experiences and scenery to share the magic of the region with viewers.

In Monday’s episode, the MasterChef Australia judges will challenge our 17 remaining contestants to a French themed mystery box in Bendigo. Inspired by the Bendigo Art Gallery’s “Paris: Impressions Of Life” exhibition, the contestants will have 75 minutes to create a delectable dish, cooking at the Bendigo Town Hall.

The bottom four contestants from the mystery box will find themselves cooking in Tuesday’s elimination challenge, amongst the truffle orchards at Black Cat Truffles near Ballarat. Head chef, Liam Downes, will set a four-hour pressure test like we’ve never seen before, and ultimately it will be the end of the MasterChef Australia journey for one of our talented home-cooks.

MasterChef Australia judge Jean-Christophe Novelli said: “It was a privilege to visit Bendigo and Ballarat to film these special episodes of MasterChef Australia. I was mesmerised by the beautiful inland Australian scenery. I just wish I had spotted a kangaroo in the wild!”

Head Chef of Black Cat Truffles, Liam Downes, said: “It was an honour and a huge career highlight to host the MasterChef Australia team at Black Cat Truffles. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our farm and our amazing truffles. We really put the contestants through their paces."

Before the Goldfields trip, Sunday’s elimination features the return of one inch cube blind tasting test.

In today’s two round elimination, our contestants’ palettes are challenged with the classic One-Inch cube taste test, which sees six favourites, cook for their spot in the competition.

Synopsis of Wednesday’s episode

It’s the chaotic, colourful and feared race that is the MasterChef Team Relay! Today in teams of four, cooks will tag-team their way to hopefully plate a cohesive dish and win immunity.

The exhibition began on March 16 this year and runs until July 14, Bastille Day.

Congratulations to Harry Butterfield, who married his girlfriend Lily in Tasmania on the weekend (December 9, 2023) before the trip to Bendigo. He revealed the news to fellow contestants and judges during tonight’s episode.

I found some photos from Harry’s Instagram.

Some of the staples for the mystery box challenge were supplied from across the Goldfields region.
