I’m going to be the bad guy here and just say. I love Julie, she is great. Perfect for the show. But. Do we need to hear episode after episode that she thought she wasn’t good enough to return? It’s a bit much now. Hopefully now that she’s won immunity she can pick herself up and stop the “I’m not good enough” chat.
MasterChef is at its best when they are cooking in the community or the team are competing in a hatted restaurant.
COVID has really reduced their opportunity to do these types of cooks post 2020.
And one another observation, Andy seems to have been smashing it out at the gym recently. It’s Andy 2.0
More MasterChef in 2023.
The Australian version is already the second-longest running franchise in MasterChef history (the original format has aired for 28 seasons - and counting - in Britain since 1990).
Crispy Noodles Crack Chris.
Chris Tran Eliminated From MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites.
A jaffle has the power to save a person from the worst hangover of their life. It can also save you from elimination in the MasterChef kitchen. Unfortunately for Fan, Chris Tran, a jaffle and crispy noodles, meant the end of his time in the MasterChef kitchen.
After winning immunity on Thursday, Favourite Julie was safe on the gantry when Melissa revealed today’s Round 1 winner would save their entire team from elimination. Their weapon? An Aussie kitchen staple, the humble jaffle maker.
From Jenn’s bulgogi, kimchi and rice jaffle to Harry’s big mac mushroom jaffle to Christina’s mac and cheese sans bread jaffle, nine perfectly toasted triangles made it to the shortlist, but it was Minoli’s chicken and potato curry jaffle with tomato chutney that won over Andy, Melissa and Jock’s tastebuds.
In Round 2, the Fans were tasked with bringing the judges a dish that changed their life.
In delivering the verdict, Chris’s Vietnamese crispy noodles, Max’s raspberry tart and Harry’s braised lentils with spiced roast pumpkin were announced as the bottom three, with Harry admitting that not playing her immunity pin could be her biggest regret.
But after failing to change out the burnt oil for his second batch of crispy noodles and on a day where the dish just didn’t come together, Chris was the first contestant eliminated from the MasterChef kitchen. Chris said that it sucked being first, but he had a blast and learnt a lot during his week.
When I saw Adriano Zumbo’s name in the advance guide last week, I knew part of the outcome of tonight’s mystery box challenge, as Alvin and Julie were the two worst contestants from Favourites team and had to compete with Max and Dulan from Fans team in Tuesday’s pressure test set by Zumbo. That had been part of 10’s promo leading up to the season premiere (seen at 0:42 mark):
Enjoying the show this season so far,it’s great to see some former contestants again .For Julie it must be like starting all over again as she won the first season way back in 2009.
Also interesting to see Mindy from Season 4 as she competed alongside judge Andy back then
Maybe he’s worried he’ll put on too much weight from all the food he has to taste during taping the show.
Jock looks like he can eat anything and not put on any weight
A Waffle Mistake Claims Dulan.
Dulan Hapuarachchi Eliminated From MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites.
The very mention of his name, can make even the most confident of cooks, crumble like a croquembouche . And unfortunately for Fan, Dulan Hapuarachchi, it was this guest chef’s feathery friend that saw him leave the MasterChef kitchen tonight.
It was the first pressure test of the season, and for Fans Max and Dulan, and Favourites Alvin and Julie, it was one bird they wished never landed in their laps.
Julie joked that should Adriano Zumbo walk through the doors holding a croquembouche, she would flip a table as she recalled her croquembouche cook from 13 years ago. Alvin himself had cooked two Adriano Zumbo desserts before, the second one sending him home during Season 2. In a wonderful (or cruel) twist of fate, in walked famed guest chef, Adriano Zumbo.
Revealing his Polly Wanna Waffle, Adriano warned the contestants that this dish was more difficult than any other dish he had presented in the MasterChef kitchen.
In the final moments of the cook, everyone started to assemble the Polly Wanna Waffle, struggling with the intricate and fiddly assembly. Max’s hands were shaky, and a wing collapsed off Julie’s bird. Dulan was worried his looked like a “rat with feathers” and Alvin said his resembled a “plucked chicken”.
When it was time to taste, Julie’s layers were impressive and had sensational balance and texture. While Max’s layers looked good, his marshmallow was rubbery. Dulan also had a few issues, his waffles looked amazing, but his layers were off balance and rough. Despite Jock joking that Alvin’s dish looked like “roadkill”, it was a spot on recreation, and to Alvin’s immense surprise, he’s awarded dish of the day.
It was then down to Dulan and Max, and with both presenting errors in their dish, Dulan was announced as the second contestant eliminated from MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites .
Sad hot daddy left
Tonight, seven immunity pins would be up for grabs in the immunity challenge. All the seven contestants had to do was to beat guest chef Matt Stone, from Harvest restaurant in Byron Bay region of NSW.
It was just like a return to the immunity challenge format which occurred from season 2 to 11.
I thought the three immunity pins given away in the first episode would be the only ones available this season.
Isn’t tonight’s immunity challenge just for Sunday’s elimination?
I am not sure, maybe only the contestant who won a pin would skip Sunday’s elimination?
This Sunday is a team service challenge with guest chef Shannon Bennett. With 2 Fans contestants eliminated, there would be 10 Fans and 12 Favourites remaining. To achieve an even number in each team, you would think that 2 Favourites would win a pin tonight.
UPDATE: which was exactly what happened tonight when Billie and Michael beat Matt Stone and each won an immunity pin. Billie’s dish scored 27 while Michael’s dish received 29 points, ahead of Matt’s dish on 26.
Big Chefs, Epic Challenges And The Moment That Will Stop The MasterChef Kitchen.
MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites. Continues Sunday, 1 May At 7.30pm. On 10 And 10 Play On Demand.
It’s a big week of MasterChef Australia next week when the Fans and Favourites are pushed to their limits.
With big chefs, come epic challenges.
Curtis Stone, Reynold Poernomo and Shannon Bennett are here. Plus, the moment that will stop the MasterChef kitchen.
It all starts this Sunday, 1 May at 7.30pm on 10 and 10 Play On Demand.
I love MasterChef but COVID has meant that this is the third year that they have scaled back cooking in some of our (Melbourne’s) best restaurants.
I miss those challenges so much. The MasterChef kitchen is a little same-same five nights a week
No elimination tonight?
Did Jock and Tommy both have covid?
Only one elimination this week, and that’s on Tuesday with Reynold Poernomo.
This episode was filmed in early January this year after the Christmas / New Year break, when a number of contestants tested positive to COVID. I won’t be surprised that Jock and Tommy got the virus at that time too.
This week Curtis Stone returns to Masterchef Australia Kitchen in Person for the first time in 2 years rather than Virtually via zoom.
He had to appear virtually in seasons 12 and 13 due to the covid 19 lock down restrictions
I also miss the off site challenges they used to have pre COVID,cooking at outdoor markets, catering for weddings etc,
They need to up the number of evictions. There are too many contestants in the kitchen meaning the vast majority are getting very little screen time.
