MasterChef Australia

It’s interesting that the acknowledgement of country took place not right at the start of tonight’s season premiere, but 17 minutes into the episode.

Had zero intention of watching any of the big three tonight, but have found myself glued to masterchef. The nostalgia of the previous contestants, sentiment and the the phenomenal cooking is awe inspiring. I have not watched masterchef in like 8 years, but they may have just won me back!!!

Does MC usually start with 24 contestants? There seems to be a lot in the kitchen.

It usually starts with 50 actually

TikTok Stars, Tacos And Three Immunity Pins.

MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites. Only On 10 And 10 Play On Demand.

Returning for an incredible 14th season, tonight’s MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites premiere episode kicked off with a bang, with 12 returning contestants battling it out against 12 everyday home cooks.

After judges Andy Allen, Jock Zonfrillo and Melissa Leong introduced us to the incredible crop of passionate and driven fans including TikTok influencer Montana Hughes and firefighter Daniel Lamble, past-season favourites including Julie Goodwin and Sashi Cheliah walked through the famous hallowed doors for a second time.

While Melissa announced that this season contestants will be competing in teams where only one will be left standing at the end, Andy explained that tonight’s challenge was to cook a sweet or savoury dish that played to their strengths.

After an incredible first tasting, the judges awarded Tommy Pham and his Vietnamese fermented noodle soup an immunity pin for the Favourites, while Harry Tomlinson’s burnt cabbage saw her win a pin for the Fans. The third lucky pin was given to Favourite Christina Batista for her knockout Portuguese ‘Bacalhau à Bràs dish.

Do not miss tomorrow night, when the Fans and Favourites rush against the clock in this season’s first service challenge.

What? Not for challenge 1 it doesn’t.

It’s 24. Two contestants are eliminated each week bringing it to 12 weeks of the show.

A normal season has a top 50 for the first few episodes which decides the top 24. This is only the 4th time in Masterchef AU where the first episode is not an audition episode.

The first episode was good but just a little too long. I know they want to showcase the contestants cooking at first but I would also prefer that they start with a bit more if a bang than just a standard solo cook off.

I missed the very start (so not sure if mentioned) but Jock said on the project that at least initially the Fans & Favourites won’t be competing against each other in eliminations but eventually they will merge into one group. I think that’s a good approach to eliminate a few from each group before they directly compete against each other.

I remember the grey haired guy in the Fans group from another season. I believe he was in the Top 50 and did a couple of challenges, just missing out on the top 24.

So it’s a bit like Australian Survivor (which is also produced by Endemol Shine).

From last season I believe. They mentioned it during the intros.

It was a really good episode. I forget how well MC does these.

Enjoyed the launch episode and was nice to not have to sit through the Top 50 I never really enjoy that part tbh. Nice mix of new and old but same old complaint from me in that the episodes are too damn long and it is on too many nights a week urgh…

Max Krapivsky - he competed in the second chance cook in the auditions last year. Apparently he applied to 3 other seasons as well.

And this is why Masterchef Australia has become more successful since S01.

A Tasty Tuesday Treat.

On tonight’s exhilarating episode of MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites , the contestants split into teams of four to create a three course menu that incorporated Jerusalem artichokes, raspberries and eggplant.

Entrées saw our talented chefs whip up everything from Jerusalem artichokes as a chip over tuna tartare and citrus emulsion to artichoke puree and chips.

The main courses set our tastebuds off with eggplant puree, lamb, chermoula, eggplant chips and an eggplant curry on display, while raspberry coulis, white chocolate mousse, and a mascarpone and thyme ice cream with a raspberry friand and raspberry gel rounded out the desserts.

Following a monumental first service challenge, victory fell to the Fans for their entrée, the Favourites for their main, and the Fans again for dessert.

Do not miss tomorrow night when Harry, Max, Jenn, Chris, Sashi, Tommy, Michael, Julie, Melanie, Steph, Montana and Keyma return to the kitchen to battle it out for Immunity from this Sunday’s elimination.

Continues Wednesday, 20 April At 7.30pm.

Cakes, Cauliflower And Chicken Curries.

On tonight’s delectable episode of MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites , the contestants got creative with cooking from the food pyramid.

With the best dish from each group to send its maker into tomorrow’s immunity cook, everything was on the line as the contestants raced against the 75 minutes on the clock.

From a cauliflower and parsnip puree and soup, to a chocolate mud cake complete with peanut butter, cream and jam, judges Andy, Jock and Melissa were blown away by the efforts in tonight’s challenge.

Following a monumental cook, victory fell to Chris, Montana, Harry and Julie.

Do not miss tomorrow night when the winning foursome return to the kitchen to battle it out for immunity from the first elimination challenge this Sunday.

This week has been a bit underwhelming. I am very much liking the cast but I just don’t get excited about the first week being constant cook offs for Immunity. We should have had a pressure test, offsite team challenge or guest chef from the get go to give the season a bang.

I’m also over Sashi just cooking a curry every episode. He’s done one 3 times now (every cook, even in the team challenge). Yes we get that you are good at that. Now that you’ve come back, show us some other skills.

An Emotional Immunity And The Promise Of Jaffles To Come.

Tonight, Harry, Chris, Julie and Montana were ready to put their best plate forward as they battled it out for immunity from the first elimination.

Harry, Chris and Julie picked an ingredient from underneath a cloche that they would all need to feature in their dish – baby leeks, saffron and sardines, and Montana’s cloche revealed that they would have to incorporate a deep fryer into their cook.

The judges declared Julie’s prawn and chorizo paella the standout dish of the night, winning her immunity from Sunday’s elimination. Reflecting on her victory, Julie opened up about the tough few years she has had, and how cooking successfully in the MasterChef kitchen made her recognise that there’s more for her still to come.

With Julie safe from elimination, on Sunday the remaining 23 contestants will be cooking for their lives in the competition. So, put down your pots, throw out your frying pans and get your jaffle makers ready, because they will be competing in MasterChef Australia’s “Great Aussie Jaffle Challenge”.
