A vastly different level of offensive, though, especially in American culture
6 years is a long time. Maybe you havenât changed your opinions and thoughts too much but society has. Gay marriage wasnât even legalised back then, for example. I completely agree the comments are wrong and I am glad he has apologised and said he has changed his mind. Hopefully 10 can seek him some counselling if he needs it. From all accounts Brendan is quite good friends with him, an openly gay contestant. But as an openly gay person looking for blood for comments made 6 years ago is extreme. I would like to think gay people are better than that and if he has changed his views that is a big success.
I donât think itâs about being âokâ with it - but my own family had loads of âgrowthâ over the six years after I came out - although from nowhere near the same standing point. Even if I think how long it took me to fully accept and be ok with who I am.
And besides, statistically speaking, thereâd be heaps more contestants on that show who would have voted âNoâ or who might have said just as horrible things. They just didnât post it online for us to find much laterâŚ
We should consider the attitudes that were entrenched in many people as they were growing up, just imagine a very religious/socially conservative upbringing.
It can take time and real world experience for people to break free from that old rigid thinking that was engrained in them from birth.
I donât know if thatâs the case here - I wonât give the thieving Daily Mail a click - so Iâm talking in-general.
While I am happy to criticise people who still have bigoted views, I think itâs great if people have grown and realised not everything we were told as children is right, and the world isnât a simple right/wrong, there are many degrees of grey, including in deciding what can & canât be forgiven.
For those unconvinced, you are of course entitled to your opinion - and I can only imagine individualsâ circumstances (such as the levels of hatred which has been directed their way, including at them personally) - but everybody makes mistakes, and nobody is being forced to watch a person on TV, or read their writing, or buy their food, etc.
Insisting everyone who has ever offended must permanently disappear from the world is extreme, so what is now required for an apology to be accepted? What are the rules for working oneâs way back? Shouldnât learning from our mistakes and forgiveness still be good things?
what i have learnt is that where reynold is from indonesia is muslism and very anti gay and i think over time reynold has learnt that over time being gay isnt that bad
Completely agree with this.
You can be brought up a certain way, but do you need to sprout it on an online forum? Which in itself is more progressive.
People do change, so I like to look at people for what theyâre doing now and how they are today, not thier past.
A 20 year is vastly different in maturity then a 26 year old.
Meanwhile: What a terribly sad episode tonight and a huge shock. Was pretty hard with covid restrictions.
I am stunned.
Jess is the last person I expected to leave. It was heartbreaking not being able to see the judges and contestants hug her.
I feel this was an elimination for âthe showâ and the reaction rather than the actual cooking. No way the eliminated should have gone gone. Iâm so annoyed.
They had the worst dish⌠It wasnât enjoyed⌠unfortunately that means elimination.
I think Simonâs was worse.
It wasnât that shocking.
She was never going to win anyway up against Poh, Callum etc.
I reckon Gordon Ramsay may return towards finals week.
It was sad to see Jess eliminated last night, and that judges and contestants unable to give her a hug due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. At least the contestants gave her a guard of honour.
Jess was sent home after cooking three below average desserts starting from Thursdayâs immunity challenge. Her downfall was adding too many ingredients and trying to make her dishes beautiful but forgetting about flavour combinations and texture.
Meanwhile, 10 is boasting the showâs success in video catch-up.
Sorry that Jess is gone, she had a great chance to win this season
Change of format this week with no team challenge or pressure test. Instead the 11 remaining contestants were divided into three groups, with one heat each night. The heat winners would compete in Thursdayâs immunity challenge, the losers would go into next Sundayâs elimination.
Callum, Reynold and Brendan competed in this heat. Callumâs strategy of making a dessert in round one and a savoury dish in round two paid off, winning the heat.
This would be heat 2 with Khanh, Tessa, Reece and Emelia.
This would be heat 3 with Simon, Poh, Laura and Sarah T.
Also, I noticed that the SUVs carrying the contestants were no longer stopping right outside the MC kitchen, with contestants forced to walk through the gate to the kitchen.
He featured in the âstill to comeâ last night with âunfinished businessâ.
Same with the 3 Melbourne contestants.
