MasterChef Australia

The three come as a package deal via a company they created. Basically if one was out, all were out. With so much negativity around Calombaris, 10 were probably happy to see the back of him. The other two are collateral damage.

It seems a little arrogant in my opinion anyway. To me it felt like they thought they were the show and could dictate any terms they wanted. Not really fair on the network. The mentality of being a trio isn’t right especially when George has costed the network sponsors. I think 10 has made the right call not agreeing to the terms. I don’t know if it’s going to help the show but clearly the show wasn’t building momentum anyway. This could provide 10 the opportunity to maybe air it later in the year (August) and try to launch something new in the winter. Surely viewers are looking for something new in May with being given the same content for about 8 years (the Voice, house rules and Masterchef).

We problay wont know who the new judges/hosts are till after Royal Melbourne Show which runs from Sat, 21 Sep 2019 – Tue, 1 Oct 2019 since Masterchef films at the Melbourne showgrounds at the earlist

Matt Moran was one of the judges/hosts on Family Food Fight on Nine which was also filmed at Melbourne showgrounds I believe

I rule out Gordon Ramsay since he busy enough hosting Masterchef U.S, Masterchef Jr U.S. Hells Kitchen U.S and other shows that he hosts and produces

Miguel Maestre could be one of the judges since he already working for Ten on the Living Room doing the cooking segments

Trivia: The host of Masterchef UK (John Torode) was born in Melbourne and moved to UK in 1991. Gary Mehigan was born in UK and moved to Australia in 1991 same year

Herald Sun also suggests today that the All-Stars version could return in 2020. The show last had an All-Stars version during the London Olympics in 2012, in which contestants from the first three seasons competed to raise money for his/her chosen charity.

I know I’ve been missing from this thread this season, but I’m still weeks behind. Have to say my least favourite season so far, maybe the show did need a shake up. But am determined to see it out. Sad to see Matt Preston depart :frowning:

Also, loving Survivor Aus more since it returned a few years ago, each year more than the last.

As many on MS would know, I don’t watch Seven and Nine’s reality trash. Except for some Bride and Prej eps I did watch.

Herald Sun revealed tonight that Gary, George and Matt were on separate contracts and different pay packages. It suited 10 which worked with them individually on their terms and conditions over the 11 years since MasterChef first launched.

Matt Preston has told The Sunday Telegraph’s Holly Byrnes that he learned on Tuesday (hours before the grand final aired on TV) that 10 made the press release that it couldn’t come to terms with him, Gary and George. Matt also said

“We were happy with what was being offered, in fact we had accepted Ten’s financial offer to make the next series of MasterChef.
“We just failed to agree on the other terms.”

The article says Matt remains under contract with Ten, understood to be until the end of this year.

Judging by this article, it seems like the show will be subject to cost-cutting:

Herald Sun reports today former contestant Sarah Todd will be part of the all-female chef line-up at the 2020 Australian Open tennis in January. Perhaps the producers should sign her up as a special guest for the next season?

Engagements we know so far:
Larissa Takchi (winner)
Nicole Scott (5th)
Christina Laker (7th)

Also, Gary, George, Matt attended Regional Flavours in Brisbane last weekend. It was their first appearance since they quit as MasterChef judges. They met Simon, Tessa, Christina, Nicole from this season and Reynold Poernomo from season 7.

I watched the interview and I don’t think you could describe it as being ‘ad’ for Calombaris. I can understand the criticisms about the interview being done in one of Calombaris’ restaurants or about certain questions not being asked (though to be honest, think nothing Sales asked or Calmobaris would have been ‘sufficient’ for some). However, it definitely wasn’t a fluff piece as Faine suggests it was

Now Gary has given his side of the story on him, George and Matt leaving the show.

Yeah, he repeated what Matt Preston told News Corp last week in that (as you outlined when you linked to the story) the sticking point was 10 wanting the new contract to last until the end of 2020 whereas Calombaris, Preston and himself wanted a shorter contract because “…we needed space to stretch our legs and do our own thing”

Additionally, News Corp are speculating that Macro Pierre White is a frontrunner to be one of the new judges along with either Poh Ling Yeow or Justine Schofield with a ‘well-known food critic’ to round out the new panel. Apparently Shine wanted to lure Gordon Ramsay to join the show but his asking fee and ‘fully booked’ schedule meant it wasn’t possible

Would Marco really commit to 6 months in Australia as a judge? It’s such a long stint for an international. Plus he would be an odd choice given he turned his back on the show to host that rubbish cooking show on Seven a year or two ago. Personally I just want to see Aussie judges. The show embraces Australian food, Australian chef’s, Australian restaurants etc. Internationals should only be guests.

@Chris
Agree 100%. Aussie judges preferred and especially not Marco if they have to go International!

I like Marco.
