Wouldn’t that be contravening Netflix’s own EULA as well as various copyright laws preventing the screening of movies on a platform intended for personal use in a Public setting?
Or for Kids, ABC Kids (LCN 22) or 10Shake.
It’s no different to them say having The Morning Show on and you become invested in the segment/ topic and missing the rest of it. Or any program really.
No, a movie is completely different to a TV program designed for dip in-dip out viewing. It’s like comparing 4 Corners to a news update.
How? Your still missing the ending of whatever it is.
Yeah but it’s not a story that requires a 2 hour investment of time and attention. A light entertainment or news program requires your attention for a couple of minutes maximum. If you were someone that got hooked on a story and they call your name, at most you’ll inconvenience the doctor for a minute or two. Not that anyone would do that anyway.
Yeah, I guess it doesn’t bother me. It happens daily. You jump in the car and your in the middle of a breakfast show segment or interview and when you get to your location your missing the end of the segment or interview. Happens every day.
Of course, so putting on a movie seems weird when in theory you’re in a situation where you’ll be whisked away any moment. It doesn’t make for very good ad hoc public viewing in my opinion.
I found a movie a really odd choice to pick from Netflix’s catalogue - I didn’t think about the spoiler aspect but that’s a good point. But surely there would be some other documentary / nature / action shows that would be better. Also, yes it would be a violation of the terms of use as well as a copyright infringement . Even playing the radio or FTV in a work situation requires payment of licence fees.
So many better alternatives.
I found a similar situation a few weeks ago at my routine dentists checkup. The screen they had on the ceiling to distract you from the fun of being in the dentist’s chair was playing episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine off Netflix (I think, my glasses were off so can’t be 100% sure ).
Good thing they werent showing something like Edward Scissorhands.
I always assume ABC News Channel is the perfect channel for waiting rooms, but understand they may want kid-friendly alternatives.
Honestly, the TV was in a very poor position to want anyway with half the room unable to see it - it was above their heads. Some designer was just a bit too clever! I actually found the entire set up very poor - we couldn’t believe the massive ceiling height, for example, and how much extra space needed to be air-conditioned (sorry for going off topic).
Slightly off topic but I once seen the Netflix log in screen on a menu at a food court takeaway shop, I was tempted to go to the counter and ask to order a Netflix subscription
I’ve seen that too. It would be a standard smart TV that they would have setup to normally play images or video from a USB drive for digital signage (or a takeaway menu in this case).
And I bet a casual worker has accidentally pushed the Netflix button on the remote while trying to fix the display.
Interesting! I hadn’t thought of this.
I’ve been to quite a few places now with TV screens and they’re showing something from Netflix.
In fact, thinking about it, rarely do I ever see FTA on waiting room/business TVs anymore.
How would Netflix ever know or police businesses showing content publicly? Would they even care?
If they thought they were being deprived income, yes.
Or that businesses were using their products to help make a profit, then yes.
A bit like when a pub shows a FOXTEL Main Event fight, they have to pay FOX something like $2,700 per event, when the home viewer only pays $50 to watch the same thing.
Venues also have to use the FOX Sports feeds that include a beer glass in the watermark so that they can demonstrate that they are paying the business rate.
Netflix could look at it as advertising. If there was something a patient saw and liked they might sign up.
Staying a Mercure (Accor) hotel on the NSW Central Coast tonight for work.
This is their channel numbered list.
It’s as hard to read on on screen as this!
Whoever thought white on grey was a good idea is mad!
Interesting there is only Sydney and no Nth NSW FTA despite both being locally transmitted.
Possibly all sourced from Foxtel?
