Mayweather v McGregor ccores big numbers for foxtel

The most hotly anticipated event in boxing starring the two biggest figures from the world of boxing and MMA, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor was the second highest pay per view event of all time for Foxtel on Main Event.
The fight which took place yesterday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in front of a sold out crowd was the highest grossing and most talked-about fight of all time.

In Australia, the Mayweather McGregor event has become second only to the Mundine Green Pay Per View Fight, held back in 2006.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. cemented his place as the greatest pound-for-pound boxer in history straight victory, as he came out of retirement to take on UFC’s most recognised talent and reigning UFC lightweight champion, Conor McGregor and won by technical knockout, securing his place in boxing history to head into retirement boasting an incredible record of 50th straight victory.

Foxtel Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh said: “The fight that captured the world’s attention was also a huge winner for Foxtel.

Our broadcast of the much-hyped event was viewed by fans through a multitude of viewing platforms - at home, in pubs and clubs, at Event Cinemas around the country and on any number of mobile devices as viewers embraced Foxtel’s streaming service,” he said.

Horn Vs Corcoran

Wednesday 13 December at 7.30pm AEDT

Jeff “The Hornet” Horn will defend his WBO World Welterweight title for the first time since defeating Manny Pacquiao in July when he takes on Englishman Gary “Hellraiser” Corcoran in the ‘Battle of Brisbane 2’ on December 13.

The international match-up is evenly poised with Corcoran boasting 17 wins and just the one loss, while Horn has also secured 17 victories and a draw on his way to the title.

An aggressive and destructive fighter, the Hellraiser will put the Hornet’s sting to the test. Corcoran’s no-frills boxing style has evolved from his tough upbringing and the 27-year-old is hell-bent on taking the WBO title back to his “traveller” community in south London.

This massive night of exceptional boxing on Foxtel’s MAIN EVENT will be hosted by Eddie McGuire who will be joined by panellists FOX LEAGUE’s Paul Kent and former World Champion boxer Barry Michael, with MAIN EVENT’s Ben Damon providing behind-the-scenes reporting.

News Corp talking up a proposed Anthony Mundine-Jeff Horn bout, with a claim it would be Horn’s highest payday. News know that Main Event would also rake in the $$$$. Guaranteed money for Foxtel so of course they talk up these insignificant fights.

It was announced last night that WWE Super Show-Down would be held at the MCG on Saturday, October 6, one week after the AFL Grand Final. It will be the biggest WWE event in Australia. Foxtel is a sponsor and I reckon it will be broadcast locally on Main Event only.
EDIT: subscription for WWE is now available at Main Event website for $29.95.

Another money grab at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, 30ᵗʰ November.

The rumble was more like a murmur.

My first thought on hearing the result was for the poor bastards who were fleeced $59.95 by Foxtel for less than two minutes of entertainment. Perhaps it was worth it to them to see trash talking Mundine put on his arse in the first round.

If someone is paying $59.95 for a fight, I would hope they aren’t just watching the main event…

I hope people get refunds to this

Robert Whittaker has been forced to withdraw from today’s UFC 234 bout against Kelvin Gastelum due to a hernia injury. The main card is now a middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and Israel Adesanya.

Will fans still go to the event (it is a sell-out) or watch it on PPV?
