Wide Bay ch 10 being received continuously without any fading in Brisbane.
Great.
If only we had that kind of DX here in Melbourne.
Is it possible to receive NZ DTV or China ATV from Oz?
Iād say no to China mainly because the frequencies where that has been achieved in the past (Channels 0, 1 and 2) are no longer in use. Add to that the difficulties of receiving a digital signal. Not sure about NZ, but much less likely than analogue days.
Wide Bay still going strong at the moment - 2 hours later.
It can happen down there. Locks of DTV from Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon and even Launceston are certainly possible if the weather is right. Of course, itās much harder now with analogue TV gone and the DTV restack blocking a number of channels
I used the get analogue NZ TV here in Sydney during summers, but NZ uses 8 MHz instead of 7 MHz like Australia, so many Australian tuners wouldnāt even pick up the NZ DTV channels even if they made it here to Australia.
On another note, watching Nine Wollongong, in amongst all the local ads, they had an ad for a car dealership in Minchinbury in western Sydney. I wonder if itās because of the sizeable number of people in north-western Sydney picking up Illawarra signals or if they actually expect people from Wollongong to go to Minchinbury to buy a car.
It wasnāt one for those Australian Fleet Sales (Oz Car), was it?
How they mention that they have 800 cars at 12 locations?
I think Iāve seen that one up here in Newcastle too.
Went back to the recording and it was for Car City, Minchinbury, which is a group of car dealerships in the same area.
As far as New Zealand TV reception in Australia is concerned, that happened thanks to E-skip on the lower analogue frequencies right?
I thought it was for Car City, who have been known to advertise on Sydney TV in the past.
Masterton Homes at Warwick Farm is another Sydney-based business whoās been known to advertise on Illawarra TV before.
Yes, the last reception I recall getting was āoneā on the VHF low band.
I wonder whether the Illawarra station sell to advertisers that they get an audience in Sydney as well.
I once picked up TV One from New Zealand on Channel 0 in Melbourne.
Same here near Newcastle.
Also in Brisbane after ) here changed to 10 and prior to that NZ ch 2 on AUS ch 1.
This week was a good demo of the difficulties with digital reception. During some of the strong tropo events found some strong signals (strength level TV according to the Panasonic) on several UHF frequencies, but could never get them to decode. In fact, given that there was no image at all, there was little info on the source of the signals.
It is quite common to see advertisements for metropolitan-based businesses on Southern Cross Nine regional stations, because (1) SCA has sales offices in the capital cities to serve national and metropolitan based clients, often co-located with their Triple M and Hit radio stations. (2) Advertising rates on SC9 are much cheaper than the metro Nines (3) so that these businesses can attract country clientele (4) some of these outer suburban businesses are fairly close to the regional service areas of SC9. In Victoria Jetport Security Parking Tullamarine, Harrison Ford Melton, Southern Motors, Melbourneās Cheapest Cars, Car City and various city hotels often advertise on Southern Cross.
I have even seen an ad for Car City Minchinbury (Sydney) on Prime7 Wagga in 2009, as if Car City are expecting people from Wagga, West Wyalong, Narrandera, Gundagai, Cootamundra etc. to drive all the way to Sydney just to buy a used car! Car City Ringwood in Melbourne is closer to many of these Riverina towns than the one in Minchinbury!
There was a business in Westmedows that advertised on WINās homepage.
When 3AW had cricket on Analog, I told dad to tune his radio into 1134 3CS or 1242 (Gold Gippsland), first thing he said to me was why am I hearing ads for Colac? well itās kinda the same for TV where the coverage can spill over to the metro areas.
I do remember once Anthony78977?? received WIN Bendigo before it became WIN TEN.
Not once ever on either my RTL-SDR (Tv Dongle with radio scanning capabilities) or on a TV have I been able to receive any of the regionals from Melbourne. The DVB-T signal hasnāt even come up on the waterfall display.
Even though I can hear Victoria Police Bendigo off Mt Macedon loud and clear and also all of the ABC Radio stations off MA at a reasonable quality
Anyway Iām not asking for anyone to tell me itās possible but there have been people that received the stations.
Iād say the biggest contributing factor in the reception of DTV from outside Melbourne is the antenna. FM reception of a 250,000w FM station from Bendigo is comparatively easy even with an indoor antenna but to get any type of DTV signal you need an external (UHF in the case of Bendigo) antenna preferably pointed north.
Yes you can. Itās only 100km and the strongest part of the western lobe points bang on towards Toowoomba. Intentional.
If in Toowoomba (or on Google), be sure to look at Downs Radio and TV Service, corner Herries and Dent Street I think. They have an impressive installation on top of their roof.
Toowoomba is at a higher altitude than the tops of the Mt Coot-tha towers, so this is helpful.
There are quite a few new antenna installations in Toowoomba, old replaced with new, brand new and so on. Same is the case on the northern end of the Sunshine Coast out of the reach of the UHF translators, lots of new Band III aerials within Noosa Shire.
I spotted this unusual triple stacked vertical VHF Band III array on Google Street View, in Kerang, VIC.
Looks to be a residential installation as well.
Trying to receive TV from MIA??
I think MTN-9 was horizontal.
VTV 6 Goulburn Valley ??
