Selling Houses Australia - Season 12

From Wednesday 6 March

Foxtel’s smash-hit local production, Selling Houses Australia returns for its 12th season on Wednesday March 6, streaming new episodes every week and broadcast at 8.30pm AEDT on the Lifestyle Channel.

Having won the 2018 AACTA Award for Best Lifestyle Program, 2018 AACTA Subscription Television Award for Best Male Presenter (Andrew Winter) and Best Female Presenter (Shaynna Blaze), and host Andrew Winter being Foxtel’s first personality to be nominated for the coveted TV Week Gold Logie Award last year – Selling Houses Australia continues to be the most successful locally produced series in subscription television history.

In this brand new 13 episode series, Andrew Winter is joined once again by interior designer Shaynna Blaze and landscape designer Charlie Albone as they face their biggest challenge yet: working their makeover magic in a volatile Australian property market.

Minutes from the city, on the water, with great shopping and excellent restaurants, it’s a wonder that Fran and her husband Fred haven’t been able to sell their heritage listed two-bedroom property in Balmain, NSW. On paper it ticks all the boxes but in reality the house needs work and seems full of unfinished jobs – some slightly dangerous! With a four million dollar price tag and the property having already been on and off the market for three years, Andrew, Shaynna and Charlie have their work cut out for them turning this odd waterfront cottage into a Balmain beauty.

A so-called “dream life” on the water with kids can have its challenges – introducing Selling Houses Australia’s quirkiest makeover to date. Single mum Indiana decided to buy a 44 foot houseboat a few years after her marriage ended. She wanted 11-year-old Tobias and 8-year-old Telulah to experience something different and adventurous. Although having made beautiful memories over the past 12 months, the maintenance, size and logistics of living on their small houseboat is a daily struggle. But in order to revamp her home so Indiana can move her family to a bigger and newer boat, the Selling Houses team need the help of shipwrights and a degree in maritime law – challenging them like never before!

Grand Designs Australia - Season 8

Starts Wednesday 17 July at 8.30pm AEST

In one of the most inspiring series to date, host and multi award-winning architect Peter Maddison is back with the long awaited eighth series of Grand Designs Australia . This season, Peter follows 10 new homeowners – all driven visionaries with a dream to change their lives and Australia’s architectural landscape forever.

The backdrops are as varied as they are stunning, as Peter travels from Victoria’s bush ranger country near Euroa where the dry earth is punctuated by huge granite boulders, to prime land on Sydney’s northern beaches where sloping blocks pose blistering challenges for two very different owner builders.

One such builder is Stephen Mallinger who has spent the last 15 years at the helm of his own construction company building homes for other people. Now he is expanding his repertoire and finally building his own home – and it’s a grand one. Set in the Northern Beaches suburb of Curl Curl, architect Andrew Donaldson’s unorthodox design comprises four split-level terraced pods which follow the natural contours of the sandstone cliff. The spectacularly steep site adds complexity to an already difficult project, but rather than shy away from the challenge both Stephen and the design take advantage of the natural surroundings – and the effect is inspired.

In the popular Byron hinterland, a young family is building an anti-mansion – a house with a neat footprint which fully values every last square metre. But it’s a proud Tasmanian travel writer that truly tests the principals of the small house movement, by creating a petite 40 square metre pod house providing all she needs and nothing more.

Travelling on to South Australia, Queensland and the ACT, Peter Maddison showcases as many eccentric and unique grand designs as modern masterpieces. Australia has never looked better in this exciting new series.

Grand Designs Australia is produced by FremantleMedia Australia exclusively for Foxtel and will be available to stream every week or watch on the Lifestyle Channel from Wednesday, July 17 at 8.30pm AEST.

Money School

Foxtel commissions new four-part series with the Barefoot Investor

Foxtel and Screen Australia announced today a new four-part documentary series from producer Essential Media with best-selling author and media commentator Scott Pape , aka the Barefoot Investor – Money School .

Premiering on Foxtel in early 2020, Money School follows behind the scenes as Scott launches a financial revolution that he hopes will change the nation – starting with kids in school.

Scott has created a brand-new money education program for primary and secondary schools, based on his best-selling books, which he hopes to eventually roll out to every school in Australia – beginning with a number of pilot schools this year.

The Barefoot Money Movement has received an overwhelming response since its launch in May, with 8991 principals and teachers supporting the initiative, and over 2000 schools, or one in five of all Australian schools, applying to be part of the program.

Scott Pape said: “Kids spend a total of around 2,300 days at school. Yet not even one of those days is dedicated to teaching them essential money skills. Debt is tearing families and communities apart – a quarter of the nation can’t repay their credit cards, and a million homeowners are under stress. It’s clear that money education needs to be better.

“Too many Australians don’t have the skills to pay the bills. Most of us had to learn these skills the hard way, because we were never taught them in school. Our kids deserve better. My goal is that by teaching the kids, we help their parents too. And when we help parents, we can change the nation.”

Wendy Moore , Foxtel Group General Manager, Lifestyle, said: “It’s incredibly rewarding for the Lifestyle team to be working with Scott to capture such a fabulous, positive movement that literally starts from the ground up. That we can take this knowledge to such a wide audience is so powerful, and the fact that it is so authentically Australian makes it a perfect project for our audience.”

Money School is produced by Essential Media exclusively for Foxtel, with principal production investment from Screen Australia.

Head of Documentary at Screen Australia, Bernadine Lim , said: “Culturally we can be hesitant to talk about our personal finance, so the premise of this documentary stood out to us as a unique opportunity to explore a touchy subject. Coupled with the fact Essential Media have a proven track record in delivering insightful Australian content that is highly accessible, Money School will definitely be one to watch.”

Well-known and respected by Australian audiences, Pape’s refreshingly real approach to money aims for financial control and security whatever your stage in life. A former investment advisor, his first book, The Barefoot Investor - The Only Money Guide You’ll Ever Need, has sold 1.6 million copies and is the highest-selling non-fiction book of the last 20 years in Australia. In September 2018 he released the follow up, The Barefoot Investor for Families which broke the record for first-week sales of non-fiction in Australia.

Money School is currently in production and will premiere on Foxtel’s Lifestyle channel early next year.

Love It Or List It Australia - Season 3

From Wednesday 25 September at 8.30pm AEST

They say home is where the heart is, but when a house is divided it calls for a Love It Or List It Australia intervention. Lifestyle’s must-watch property show is back for Season 3 premiering Wednesday September 25 at 8.30pm and available On Demand. Real estate expert Andrew Winter and design guru Neale Whitaker are once again tasked with helping Australian homeowners with one of life’s big dilemmas – renovate or relocate.

From floorplans requiring a compass to navigate to homes too small for a growing family, postcode envy and beachside dreams – Andrew and Neale have their work cut out for them swaying homeowners to make the right decision… theirs!

Together our hosts will be helping a variety of grateful homeowners, including the South Australian Border Patrol officer who is short on time living away six months of the year; a cheeky Melbourne barrister whose family’s bathroom faces directly onto their front door; and a gentle giant former AFL player that must bend down every time he walks through his kitchen door.

Wendy Moore, Foxtel Group General Manager, Lifestyle, said: “Once again Andrew and Neale battle it out to tempt our homeowners to stay or go, the renovations are stunning, the new homes are seriously enticing, and the (mostly) friendly rivalry between our two experts make for very entertaining viewing! We are all very excited to have them back on our screens once again.”

Love It Or List It Australia Season 3 is a 10 x 60min series produced by Beyond Productions exclusively for Foxtel. Seasons 1 – 2 are available On Demand for those wanting to catch up on past episodes.

Find Me a Beach House

Premiere Wednesday 25 September at 9.30pm AEST

Hosted by Deborah Hutton

Australians have a fascination with the beach and for some, living by the water is the ultimate Australian dream. Premiering Wednesday September 25 at 9.30pm and available On Demand, Foxtel’s brand-new property series Find Me a Beach House sees host Deborah Hutton tasked with the important role of finding everyday Australians their perfect beach house.

From grandparents looking for their dream home in Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula, to young retirees searching for a Byron beach house equipped to raise their young family, Deborah Hutton travels the Australian coastline meeting a variety of potential home buyers with differing budgets and needs. Each challenge is different but the ultimate goal is the same – to find a beach house.

In the series premiere we head to the fashionable resort town of Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. Deb meets Melbournites Paul and Karryn who are in search of sunny skies, relaxation and their very own holiday beach house not only to enjoy with their two daughters, but also to list on Airbnb. For Karryn the most important aspect of the house is the view, somewhere she can meditate and unwind, but for Paul it’s about sticking to a strict budget. Deb’s brief is to find a home away from home that will also serve as an investment for holiday letting. With three incredible houses to offer, has Deb found the perfect beach house at the perfect price?

Wendy Moore, Foxtel Group General Manager, Lifestyle, said: “The dream of finding our own piece of paradise along the stunning pockets of the Australian coastline is a long-held one, and I can’t see this ever leaving our wish list. Seeing just a few Australians realise that is inspiring to say the least, be prepared! This show will give you itchy feet!”

Find Me a Beach House is a 10 x 30min series produced exclusively for Foxtel by Abode Entertainment.

The Great Australian Bake Off Winner

Sydney’s Subha (Sunny) Nasir Ahmad has risen to the occasion to be crowned Australia’s Best Amateur Baker after winning over judges Maggie Beer and Matt Moran in last night’s final episode of THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF.

Sunny, 26, a self-taught baker and PhD science student from Sydney’s Blacktown, proved too strong for her competition, pulling out all stops in the final Showstopper challenge of a three-tiered, geometric cake.

With her stairway geometric cake of vanilla and cacoa nib sponge with white chocolate ganache and raspberry jam, Sunny beat Brisbane’s Dan Pasquali , 35, with his apple and cinnamon flavoured white chocolate mud cake with edible rose gold dust, and Melbourne’s David Hills , 41, with his mud cakes of white chocolate and raspberry, and salted caramel, decorated with fondant in an abstract grid design.

After her win, Sunny said: “I can’t believe I won The Great Australian Bake Off! A dream just came true.

“I’m going to celebrate with my family. It was so nice to have them here; this win is for them as well,” she added, acknowledging her single mother and younger siblings with whom she moved to Australia in 2011 from Pakistan.

For judges Maggie and Matt, choosing this year’s winner from such top-notch bakers proved a difficult task with Matt explaining that “this year has been such a close competition.”

Maggie said: “I’m so proud that we have crowned Sunny. She has such instinct, she has flavour, she has finesse, she has creativity, and she has science – she really is an amazing baker.”
