Letters and Numbers

Promo for tonight’s premiere

Can’t they find a thicker marker for Lily to use so we can actually see the Maths on the whiteboard?

I think they’re starting to find their groove with Celebrity Letters and Numbers. Last week’s episode was very good. Probably because they had a better quality of celebrity on the show.

Cal Wilson was great in Dictionary Corner. Mark Humphries and Matt Okine were good celebrity players.

Still think the show would be much better if they had two teams of two, like the British version does.

Good that its returning. Just hope they listen to us and make some adjustments/improvements to the show for next year…

Why was it cancelled years ago ?

Probably because it repeated too well, so SBS didn’t see the need to continue with new episodes.

Short sighted of course because more new episodes means even more to repeat - they could get away with half the episode count and have a new series for half the year then repeat the series from last year in the second half.

Agree that it has been rating pretty well for the repeats, despite them airing quite a number of times now.

Over the years, they could have strung out some new episodes, to repeat them with other seasons throughout the year. Surely Letters and Numbers is cheap to make?

SBS has aired new seasons of Mastermind over recent years, and that’s cheap to make (although they do have “researchers” to go through all the specialised topics to get the questions).

Am surprised that this is returning again. Still looks like it will be three celebrities competing against each other, so id say that the format will be the same. Better if they were in teams of two, just like the British version…

Please can we just get a regular season, not lame celebrities burned on a Saturday night

Was this filmed at the same time as Season 2? Lily being pregnant in both seasons has real Rachel Riley being consistently pregnant in the UK version vibes

Season 3? Probably - there is mention at the start of the show that Lily is “still somehow eight months pregnant”.

And even with her pregnant they still haven’t given her a letters and numbers board at an appropriate height - that looks so awkward.

Surprised it keeps going but TBH surprised they’ve not recommissioned the daytime show if there is enough interest to keep the celebrity version going. The first incarnation worked well enough and I believe stuck around in reruns for quite some time too.

It’s still repeated now at 5.30pm weeknights.

Thought it might be. Yes, repeats may be cheaper than new episodes in the short term but in the long term produce a couple hundred more episodes and they can then be in repeat for the next decade.

The remaining episodes will be available on SBS on Demand at 4pm AEDT today.

It’s rare for SBS to bump a show due to low ratings. But this must have been disastrously low. Wrong timeslot, against the powerhouse of reality shows on Seven, Nine and Ten. Also, the show just isn’t the greatest. Either bring back the original (and rotate it between Mastermind), or if they persist with a Celebrity Version, have the contestants in pairs like the UK version.

Unfortunately it just wasn’t funny. At all. The UK one is absolutely hilarious

I gave up on it after the first season. It became really tedious viewing. It was originally on a Saturday night which has very little competition.
