News.com.au is having a field day of this. Repeating the same story at least a dozen times on FB alone - re the glitch of Kyle’s new show.
Kyle’s first show malfunction even made ABC radio news, err, why?![]()
The whole saga has been big news and the subscription concept is a new thing but the added malfunctions made it even more newsworthy.
More like a lampoon.
That’s just Murdoch being Murdoch.
Yeah oddly having a few hiccups has probably got him more media coverage (free advertising) for his launch than he otherwise would have. No clue whether or not that helps or hinders his quest for subscribers though
$2M isn’t much when you are on air all year, you have running costs, staff to pay, technology, guests, marketing etc. If that is enough to fund the show for 2.5 years then it must be being done on a mega budget. Well maybe it is given the issues they had today.
I also question 20,000 people have signed up for something that they’ve never seen. Kyle today was apparently claiming close to 100,000 subscribers. Not sure who he is trying to convince.
Now that day one of Kyle Live is over, the show may slowly slip into obscurity. Kyle without Jackie O is just plain old Kyle.
I’ve certainly stopped listening and have switched back to Alan Jones: Direct To The People.
Isnt that Alan Jones: Directly Inside the People? lol
The second show so much better than the chaotic yesterday.
I hope Kyle succeeds because the incumbent broadcasters with Government protected licences really don’t deserve to be in business. In any other business the likes of SCM, NEC, ARN and WIN would have been driven into receivership years ago by rival businesses setup by disgruntled former employees.
Kyle needs to leverage his new operation by starting a couple of streaming stations as well - it could be done at low cost and would give him a 24x7 presence on the net.
MFu…Witches(MFW) need to get the finger too - we have a very broken system here if they can dictate which White Guys are allowed on air in the country and which are not.
I’d be happy too if anyone else was able to successfully set up a form of stream-casting that was able to take away from the networks. I agree wholeheartedly that in any other industry, they’d be driven out of business by former staff who started their own ventures.
The level of entitledness of execs at some of these broadcasters in the past beggars belief: some thought they could force lower level staff out of the industry entirely and in some cases actually succeeded. Unfair employment contracts and NDA agreements were tools of trade for most of those rogues.
I hope Kyle and Karl as well manage to eventually strip a bit of revenue from incumbent broadcasters - Online technology has matured enough to give an old rich bloke squeezing $$$ out of a licensed radio or TV transmitter a run for his(or her) money. Online doesn’t have any Gov licensing system to protect you from new rivals.
It might like the new uber with what happened to the taxi industry. For example I didn’t mind 2ue as a second talk station but whether it was not sustainable to have another talk station in Sydney or it was just purely to eliminate potential competition for 2gb to buy it can be argued either way , at the end of the day, the system allowed it. Now if there is an alternative platform for potential radio talk back stars to go that can’t get a gig with the incumbent stations and make a living , it might be a good thing. So live interactive radio can grow on the internet.
I agree with all these sentiments. The problem is…it’s Kyle. About as easy to listen to as wiping your backside with single digit grit sand paper.
Hence my desire of anyone else…
Sometimes it just takes one person to start the ball rolling - doesn’t mean they’re the best or will be successful at it… but it’s the start.
The approach the media execs are taking with digital ventures is antiquated from the start, showcasing they fully do not understand the world they’re trying to get into. It’s unfortunate that the shareholders can’t see it.
The first week of broadcast ended with a no show today.

EDIT: today’s show was beset by technical issues that producers were forced to cut the livestream less than two hours in.
Womp womp ![]()
So only two hours of the four hour show made it to air this morning.
This has hardly caused a stir on Mediaspy.
Is it possible that by the end of the first week on air, Kyle Live (more like Kyle Disconnected), the show is losing its relevance, importance, traction and ability to be a water cooler moment?
Probably because none of us have $ub$cribed.
Maybe @Roman_Paolo_De_Manza, but I can’t be sure.
Anything that I’ve posted has been based on the commentary surrounding the show.
